  1. I have tried the repair. I have uninstall the card and then reinstalled and then restart and it works, as soon as I restart the computer, nothing.
  2. My brother's computer running Windows XP Home. He has been using dial up for awhile. He wanted to set up at my place to go on DSL high speed to download updates for his computer. He has a on-board Ethernet card but it wouldn't work or wasn't recognizes by XP. He brought over a Linksys 10/100 Ethernet card and I installed it. Went online with my computer and downloaded the latest drivers for it. Re-started the computer and windows recognize it and we were able to get online. After shutting down the computer and restarting it. I tried to get on again but it wouldn't get online. But the card is showing no conflicts and is showing that it is connected. Been workin on it most of the day, sometimes we get online but most times no way. I even went into the bois to disable the onboard ethernet card. Any ideas what to do next?
  3. Boy am I stupid. The copy I have is a Windows XP Pro upgrade. I loaded up windows 98SE first and then put in the Windows XP Pro disk and it installed no problem. Sorry for wasting your time.
  4. All I want to do now is have Windows XP Pro on the hard drive. I've reformatted the hard drive and then attempted to load XP Pro. It loads up the startup files and then when it restarts the computer to continue the set up then it says that I have to delete the previous version on the drive. But there isn't one on it. So it will again reformat the drive and then when it loads up it does the same thing again. I can't seem to get beyond loading the set up files.
  5. HI there My hard drive died, so I brought a brand new 80 gig hard drive. At first I loaded up Windows 98SE. After Awhile I decided to put my copy of Windows XP Pro on it. So I reformated and put it on with no problems. A couple days ago I decided to put windows 98SE back on again. I tried loading it but it wouldn't load. Bu the way, When I had windows 98SE on it I parition the hard drive into three paritions. I decided to reformat C: to reload Windows XP Pro. It will reformat no problem and then start to load the files needed to install Windows XP Pro, but after copying files and restarting it comes back and says it can't install in C: because there is already a copy of windows there. So I go ahead and allow it to delete that copy and then it begins to load again and the whole process goes again, Each time telling me that another OS is already loaded. I really need help with this. Never had this problem before.
  6. Loaded Norton SystemWorks 2000 and ran it and it solve the problem. Back online again.
  7. I have no problem installing the Windows 98SE. It is a brand new copy still in wraps. I installed a new hard drive. Everything seems to work Ok. But when I rebooted it this message came up. The following error has occurred while loading protocol 0 Rrror 69. A Network error has occurred. Because of this I can't get online.
  8. well I restarted the computer and right at the start when it was going through checking for things in the computer the screen showed this. Pri Master Hard Drive S.M.A.R.T. status BAD, Backup and Save I guess that means that the hard drive is fried. Well I'm off to buy a new hard drive
  9. I have a computer that was given to me by a friend. It had Windows XP Professional on it. When I tried to update it said it wasn't a registered copy or it belonged to an network or something like that. That part doesn't matter. I reformatted the computer and wanted to installed my copy of Windows 98SE. (I have another computer that has Windows Xp Home on it). It goes through the motions of formatting and then I start to load windows 98SE and just when I think everything is going Ok. 17. Yea, I'm doing a fresh install on this one.
  18. I do have the key. Wish me luck. I'm going to go with a clean install. Nothing to lose on the hard drive.
  19. Great news. They found the copy of XP Pro, so I can use the recovery mode. Thanks everyone for your help.
  20. Crap!@! Looks like the Floppy disks doesn't work either. I think I'm going to walk away from this for awhile. I'll like you all know if anything changes. Thanks for the help. I called them and they are trying to find the disk for Windows XP Pro.
  21. I got into the bios and it shows to boot to CD-Rom first. I put the Windows 98SE disk into the CD-Rom and restart the computer but nothing happens
  22. I guess both!! I'm trying to get it to work to show them it's good. But if it's going to take a lot of time that I don't have then I'd like to put windows 98SE on it a.s.a.p Here's the Story which I guess I should have told you all before. It use to work great, but they had no protection on it. They got alot of virsues, they had a local boy work on it and he charged them over $100.00 dollars. He told them he had gotten rid of them all. This was about a year ago. Now they are having this problem. He had put in Norton antivus for them at the time. Not sure what version.
  23. Under "Services" in Control Panel. All services have been disable. Should there be some that are abled and if so, which ones?
  24. If I try last known working and/or normal startup I end up with a black screen. If I go into safe mode, safe mode with command, safe mode with networking then I can get in but I'm not sure what to check for or what to do about it.
  25. Was able to use f10 to get in. Thanks
