  1. I need help peeps. I've got a new Dell 5150c, with the ICH7R (AHCI) sata controller. Several people here have this same controller onboard and must be facing the same problem I am. Of course the XP setup doesn't recognize any hard drive because of this controller. I've read through every post on this thread, and I've done everything right as far as I can tell but setup STILL does not see the controller and thus no hard drive. I have a multiboot cd environment, so keep that in mind. I've got txtsetup.oem and the iaStor.sys, iastor.inf, iastor.cat, iaahci.inf, and iaahci.cat files in the following folders: CDROOT\PRO1\$OEM$ CDROOT\SETUP\XP\PROFESSIONAL\$OEM$\TEXTMODE my winnt.sif file has the following relevant entries: [MassStorageDrivers] "Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)" "Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)" "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/PCI IDE Controller" = "RETAIL" [OEMBootFiles] txtsetup.oem iaahci.cat iaahci.inf iastor.cat iastor.inf iastor.sys For good measure, I've copied the iastor.sys file (uncompressed) to the PRO1 folder, as well as the i386 folder. Still not working. What am I doing wrong? Or what am I missing? BTW: in case it matters, I've got a 250GB sata drive hooked up which Dell suggests may be the problem and they said to try changing a BIOS setting on the SATA portion to Combination mode rather than normal mode. I haven't tried that just yet but my feeling is that it is the driver support above that is causing my problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  2. Lets say you have two programs whereby if either one is selected, you want the other to be selected also just as the dependency function works. Can this be done in any version of WPI? I'm using WPI Lite 1.2 and when application 2 is configured to depend on application 1... WPI errors out upon saving. The message says: Out of stack space File: check.js Line: 350 Once I edit config.js and take out the second (mutual) dependency, WPI fucntions normally.
  3. Is there a way to get the Activation to remain as part of setup when using the /qb switch with a TRANSFORMS file? I've got an administrative install with 7.07, and a .MST file that installs just fine with the /qb switch, but it does not include the activation step like it would if you ran the setup normally. With this behavior, I'd have to launch Acrobat after install, hide the window with AutoIT's WinSetTrans, and wait for the Activation window to pop up 8 seconds later or whenever it is. It would be nice if there was some way of getting Activation thrown in with the /qb switch instead of having to avoid the /qb and using instead a TON of AutoIT scripting in order to get it all activated during install.
  4. I am having the very same problem now with my CDs and DVDs which take on the same form as the MultiBoot DVD guide. I did do some "housecleaning" of files. But I DO know that the 1KB WINNT and WINNT.SP2 files are important, I did not remove those. What I did remove was the README.HTM and such. Anyways here is where it gets weird. This does not occur during and install inside VMware. In VMware, it flys through the setup w/o asking for any files. I thought it may be the burning to DVD itself so I burned, and used the actual DVD disc as the VMware boot drive and it still didn't ask for the files. Once I actually booted my real machine from the DVD and tried going through the setup.... it bombed and asked for about 50 files beginning IMMEDIATELY at T-39 min (first moments of GUI mode). The default directory it was expecting to see the files in was X:\I386 instead of X:\SETUP\XP\Professional\ as referenced in SetupSourcePath in txtsetup.sif any ideas? I've done something because it didn't used to happen. I'm just in a hole now as my machine doesn't have an OS on it, but the D drive has all my files ready to be modified once I figure out whats wrong.
  5. I've noticed this with the last two full feature releases, and also with the new Lite V1. If you have certain entries with a required item in the "Dependent of" field, the item itself will not be checked for install when you choose "Select All" My current config has 3 items with dependencies, and when I choose "Select All" all 3 remain unchecked. I've attached my config, try plugging it into your WPI and see if you get the same behavior.config.js
  6. Sorry to fuel my own post but this is much more revealing than anything else. Just enable everything to be installed in debug mode, click install and look at the actual values input into the registry. The only values that are what I've entered into WPI are the first 005 and the last one. Everything in between seems to have taken on values of its own.
  7. BTW: just to add to this. When I make the Toolbar 018 and leave CuteFTP at 020. It enters 016 for CuteFTP (instead of 20) and puts the Toolbar at 018 as it should be. When I move the Toolbar down to 016 in WPI and keep CuteFTP at 020. It continues to put CuteFTP at 016, but this time it moved the value I put for the Toolbar (016 in WPI) to 014 inside the registry. Very strange.
  8. I have found a problem with the Install order function in that it does not adhere to the values defined in WPI in some cases, and thus mixes up the program install order for two programs in particular. The Google Toolbar for IE is to be installed immediately before CuteFTP 7 Professional The values input for the install order have the Google Toolbar at 019 and CuteFTP at 020. Yet even in the debug mode the registry entries that are made put CuteFTP in front of the Google Toolbar with something like 018 for CuteFTP and 019 for the Google Toolbar. I've attached the config.js so that it can be plugged into WPI 4.2 or perhaps the latest internal version. Let me say that this bug does NOT appear for the WPI configuration used on my XP cd. In that case, the install order values for Google Toolbar and CuteFTP are 034 and 035 respectively. It works fine there. But for my server 2003 cd... the order function is unreliable (perhaps based soley on the values for whatever reason). config.js
  9. I haven't goten 4.2 to work properly since its release. Is there any place to download the latest 3.x version? It didn't have the audio which I've spent much time trying to strip out completely, and it was 100% reliable.
  10. OS: Windows XP Professional with SP2 XP Codec Pack 1.2.2 with the classic Media player (but I got the same error on a fresh CD testing which did not yet have this installed as it was WPI's job to install it) nlite was not used
  11. I redownloaded the 4.2 rar from the first page of this thread, modified the line I referenced in useroptions.js Launched wpi.hta and clicked begin install and got the same error.
  12. There is a problem with this version when you disable the usage of audio during WPI. It is the following line in useroptions.js: var showmpWPIBtn=false; When that is false, the JavaScript error message says, "Object doesn't support this property or method" It gives the path to wpi.hta Then references line 138 in main.js
  13. Is anyone else having problems using Gosh's method of reducing the size of the Install source with Windows Server 2003 slipstreamed with SP1? When modifying the setupldr.bin, I get 7 replacements for i386 -> BOOT instead of 4 with the setupldr.bin from XP. Consequently, I'm unable to get the install started as it complains about ntldr right off the bat before it even attempts to install. Ideas?
  14. I thought about that, but I don't want to force anything if it's not a requirement. Firefox is a requirement for the firefox toolbar, but the toolbar isn't required for firefox. So I don't want to include the cmdline for the google toolbar as part of the Firefox install.
  15. All I want is to have the google toolbar extension for Firefox configured to install after the Firefox browser since it needs to be that way for obvious reasons. However, I don't want to simply put the Firefox browser at the front of the install order list and have the extension follow sometime thereafter... I want the entire list of programs to remain in the regular order with the lone exception of the this extension. So how do I do this without having to put an install order for every single entry in WPI? Is there some way to simply follow the regular order, but item X must come after item Y when WPI makes its registry entries?
  16. Heh, so there is already an update to 10.0. I guess I need to update, because this says that 10.0.1 can disable the start scans from the SSC. My general tab doesn't have a scans section =\ Oh well, this will certainly be easiest anyway.
  17. What is the best way to disable the startup scans for mass deployment? I've read about the registry entries that are needed, and it would be a huge pain in order to get those implemented for every single user on every machine in the network. But it looks like that is what I am faced with unless there is some install switch that will do it. Here are the ideas I've been tossing around. Include a call to fix.cmd for the user logon scripts. Fix.cmd will make the registry entries needed for the current user as well as the default user for future logins (so long as they don't already have a profile on the machine). Then once I confirm that every user has run that script, I can deploy the client from the Symantec System Center. Or I can do a psexec @complist.txt to execute a 7z self extracting archive I made that installs a managed client. What would be easiest is if I could find a way to alter the program that the remote deployment tool uses within SSC so that it runs a batch script that executes the fix.cmd followed by the managed client install. Yeah this is a mess, but I'm just looking for some brainstorming ideas from people who have already done this, or are faced with the same situation.
  18. Ok, is there a list somewhere if which ones are slipstreamed in? It would be best to integrate those to save time for the install and space on the CD. So there is no redundant data. I tried copying my entire cdroot directory for XP SP2 and integrating the first hotfix, and it just nuked svcpack.in_ and created the .inf file, and the svcpack dir in i386, and added the hotfix with a few other needed files. So that sounds like it is just replacing the runonceex method I currently use. In that case, I'd continue letting runonceex handle it.
  19. When you use the /integrate command, does this method slipstream the update into the i386 directory, or does it automate the svcpack.inf method of install?
  20. No matter what theme I choose in winnt.sif for the [shell] CustomDefaultThemeFile The RunOnceEx window takes on the appearance of the Classic Windows theme during install, which is of course ugly! So I've been adding the following registry tweaks executed at the time CMDLINES.TXT is run. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager] "WCreatedUser"="1" "ThemeActive"="1" "LoadedBefore"="1" "LastUserLangID"="1033" "DllName"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\ 74,00,25,00,5c,00,72,00,65,00,73,00,6f,00,75,00,72,00,63,00,65,00,73,00,5c,\ 00,54,00,68,00,65,00,6d,00,65,00,73,00,5c,00,4c,00,6f,00,6e,00,67,00,68,00,\ 6f,00,72,00,6e,00,20,00,41,00,65,00,72,00,6f,00,2d,00,4a,00,61,00,64,00,65,\ 00,5c,00,4c,00,6f,00,6e,00,67,00,68,00,6f,00,72,00,6e,00,20,00,41,00,65,00,\ 72,00,6f,00,2d,00,4a,00,61,00,64,00,65,00,2e,00,6d,00,73,00,73,00,74,00,79,\ 00,6c,00,65,00,73,00,00,00 "ColorName"="NormalColor" "SizeName"="LargeFonts" This was extracted from a machine running the Longhorn Jade theme, and when this is imported to the registry, the RunOnceEx window takes on the look you see in this screenshot http://geekbox.datacircle.com/temp/themprob.jpg Well as you can see the text isn't quite right, it is supposed to look like it does in the titlebar of the VMWare window, and the Mozilla download window below the VMware window. Once this RunOnceEx process finishes, and the desktop is loaded completely, all window title bars look normal. And if I were to configure a RunOnceEx Process for the next reboot, it would look the way it should. It just never does look right when run before the desktop fully loads for the first time after the OS is installed (like from WPI Wizard). Is there a way to fix this?
  21. I'll tell you how... cause I was running it against the file after makecab instead of before =( *sigh* It works now.
  22. Is it possible to replace the logonui.exe file on the install cd after you run a makecab on it (then logonui.ex_ ). I tried this and windows complains about it not being a valid Windows XP system image. I know there is a program called modifype.exe for adjusting the checksum to avoid this problem with the winntbbu.dll file, but it wont work with logonui.exe. Is there a way to get this done?
  23. Ok, I looked at the setup.log and I have a resultcode of -3 which, according to InstallShield's Knowledgebase... means: -3 Required data not found in the Setup.iss file. There is no entry in setup.iss for the screen pertaining to the Google Toolbar. Any chance someone could paste their setup.iss here? This is what mine looks like: [installShield Silent] Version=v6.00.000 File=Response File [File Transfer] OverwrittenReadOnly=NoToAll [{1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-DlgOrder] Dlg0={1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdWelcome-0 Count=5 Dlg1={1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdLicense-0 Dlg2={1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdAskDestPath-0 Dlg3={1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SetupType-0 Dlg4={1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdFinish-0 [{1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdWelcome-0] Result=1 [{1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdLicense-0] Result=1 [{1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdAskDestPath-0] szDir=C:\Program Files\GlobalSCAPE\CuteFTP 7 Professional Result=1 [{1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SetupType-0] Result=301 [Application] Name=CuteFTP 7 Professional Version=7.00.0000 Company=GlobalSCAPE Lang=0009 [{1CCBCF78-EF12-4137-B3CA-99F30A2E7D21}-SdFinish-0] Result=1 bOpt1=0 bOpt2=0
  24. I'll uninstall and try again, but I'm not optimistic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No change. In fact the setup.iss file it created when I selected no to the google bar, is identical to the one I had in my 7zip sfx package.
  25. Well, initially I used Astalavista's setup.iss. But then I was told to try and make my own, so I did with -R and I went through everything. Perhaps when I did that i already had the google toolbar installed so it never presented me with that. I'll uninstall and try again, but I'm not optimistic.
