  1. I rolled back my Win98SE/IE5.01 and Win98SE/IE5.01SP2 VMs to a pre-patched state and re-patched them from scratch. Both ended up failing on Security Update August 9, 2000: This update resolves the "Scriptlet Rendering" and "Frame Domain Verification" security vulnerabilities. in Internet Explorer. Presumably a missing file? https://web.archive.org/web/20050207052024/http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/patch11/default.asp has four q269368.exe files. Are they any use to you?
  2. Are we talking about the same thing? Three of the four VMs were able to display and install updates with v3 when I posted about them in this thread on 19 June. Even the one that wasn't (Me with IE 5.5 SP2) at least displayed an unpopulated updates page. I don't get that far today.
  3. Same here. Yesterday I patched four Windows 95 and two 98SE VMs perfectly. All updates worked. I had two 98SE and two ME VMs left. All got the "Cannot Display Page" error on the Product Updates page. Is it possible I've been rate limited or banned? I've tried clearing the cache and renaming the Windows Update folder, but it made no difference. This seems to be some kind of problem at your end.
  4. I've attempted to patch four 98SE VMs, with IE5.01, 5.01 SP2,5.5 SP2 and 6.0 SP1. The first three ended up with no outstanded critical updates or any other patches I was interested in installing. There were 404s along the way, but those files seem to have been made redundant by other patches. The IE 6.0 SP1 VM 404s on Security Update, November 2, 1999 "This update eliminates the "Virtual Machine Verifier" vulnerability..." I've also tried with two Me VMs, with IE 5.5 SP2 and 6.0 SP1. The IE6 VM chokes on Security Update, May 19, 2000 "This update resolves the "IP Fragment Reassembly" security vulnerability" and Security Update, September 9, 1999 "Update for Security Vulnerability in Windows 98 Telnet Client" Both fail with an "Unknown Error". The IE 5.5 SP2 VM hangs without populating the updates. There's an error hidden behind the Please Wait pop up. It's a surprise as the same browser works on 98SE.
  5. I have a stack of 98SE and Me VMs waiting to be patched.
  6. That's brought a tear to my eye. What an effort. A bit of early feedback: Win95C + IE4.01 SP2 404s. Attached as ie4.png. That might have happened with the original Windows Update for all I know, but it'd be great if IE4 could be made to work. Win95C + IE5.01 Attached as ie5.png. Look at that! I get a Security Warning pop-up to install and run "C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\ident.cab" each time I visit the site. My Critical Updates Package contains Security Update, January 17, 2000 and Critical Update, September 10, 1999. Both get "Could not be installed because the file was not found" There's a page error at line 679 of catalog.htm: Object doesn't support this property or method: 'document.all(...).Style'. Is this a Microsoft issue? Trying all the shown IE5 patches (ie5-patches.png) resulted in four of the six being installed, with Offline Browsing Pack and Internet Connection Wizard not being found. Are the missing files simply a case of someone sourcing them and contributed them to the project?
