  1. Same problem for me. It's because archive.org does only allow limited pings per IP. Use 2 or maybe 5 instead of 20. It's slow, but at least twice as fast as normal.
  2. Do you know what calls are sent from v4 to this domain? There is a file called wutrack.bin on it. NTServicePack has also files related to Windows 2000 on it.
  3. To get a working infrastructure for Windows Update v4 it seems we need: http://wustat.windows.com http://ntservicepack.microsoft.com http://schemas.windowsupdate.com/ http://download.windowsupdate.com (maybe for removed updates?)
  4. Update v5 was Windows XP exclusive and only around from mid 2004 till mid 2006. Update v6 quickly replaced it because of the new Microsoft Update wich could not only update Windows, but also Microsoft Office, SQL Server and other Microsoft products. V6 was not more than v5 with some UI tweaks and the ability to use Microsoft Update. V6 has support for Windows 2000 SP3 or newer, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
  5. Windows Update v5 was never supported on any 9x Version. Here is a small overview.
  6. Same for me. I have hosted v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com, schemas.windowsupdate.com and windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v4/ but the cab files won't be downloaded and also no WindowsUpdate\v4 folder in C:\Programfiles. The query strings are definitely the problem.
  7. Doing that on WU v4 will show the correct page, but the searching for updates button does not work.
  8. Awesome! Yesterday I tried to get v4 working on Linux using apache2 and apacheasp. I renamed all URL codes to the original state, because ext4 can handle ? = and so on in the file system. But still the page=3 won't show up. So I think the wayback machine has not archived the back end of WU.
  9. Yes, I have even tried to host schemas.windowsupdate.com on a second server 2003, but still won't work.
  10. Okay this solves the problem. Thank you.
  11. Same error as before. But IE is not crashing this time.
  12. After reset to defaults it works now and shows a page I've never seen before.
  13. Still won’t work. Windows Update v4 is hosted on my Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.0. On XP SP2+ the redirect makes sense since v4 was only used on XP RTM + SP1. But I don't know why it won't work for me.
  14. Sadly not. With the renamed redirect.asp it will redirect every call to 2fe. Even on default.asp?&g_sconsumersite and default.asp%3fcorporate%3dtrue. Without redirect.asp, it will stuck on searching for the update software like before.
  15. I think there is a problem with redirect.asp. If I rename redirect.asp%3fUA%3dtrue to redirect.asp it will redirect me to the fe2 site on Win98, if not it will stuck like before. Also redirect.js makes some calls to redirect.asp. When it all works windows update should be automatically add the directory WindowsUpdate\v4\ to C:\program files and extract the contents of iuctl.CAB in there.
