  1. Thank you for your quick response! Is there a list of which files can be compressed, and which ones must remain uncompressed? I know, for example, that pidgeon.dll is not compressed on the original cd, but I don't know if it will cause a problem if I compress it anyway.
  2. I ran KB891861.exe /integrate. It replaced all the applicable source files with non-compressed files. Do I have to manually make a list of which files should be compressed and recompress them manually, or is there a tool which can do it faster?
  3. Maelstorm, Thank you for this quality piece of work! I'm wondering what the -ira switch does. As noted, the FireFox 1.0.1 installer installs silently with just -ms. Does -ira do something else helpful? [Edit] Never mind the question. It looks like -ira keeps the application from launching after setup completes. It looks like it is not needed for FireFox 1.0.1 as I just used -ms and it did not launch the application on completion. [/Edit] Also, a couple suggestions: Start, Run, %tmp% takes you right to the temp folder If you have 7-zip (and probably some other compression utilities can do this), you can extract the thunderbird and firefox installers without running them. 7-zip 4.15b did not work with Sunbird for me.
  4. [Edit]Deleting duplicate...[Edit]
  5. Who can I PM this to as a suggestion for this page: http://unattended.msfn.org/intermediate/me...s/runonceex.htm in the unattended guide? Or is there a similar guide that is more specific to Windows 2000 I should send this to?
  6. To answer my own question, I installed a bare os, then installed all the patches via a batch file, and looked at the registry. Sure enough there is a potential conflict if you start RunOnceEx installs with at least one of the patches, and I'm not sure which one(s). If you use the RunOnceEx install method, avoid these key numbers: 101, 102, 103, 104, 500, 800, 801, 802 Convenient, that if you follow the suggestion in the guide in adding keys by 5s, you'll be fine untill you get to key 500. These numbers are all used by one or more of the many patches you need since SP4 on your first logon. Here is the code, for anyone interested: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx] "Flags"=dword:00000a38 "Title"="Windows Update" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\101] @="Browsing Services" "002"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\mlang.dll|DllRegisterServer" "004"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\browseui.dll|DllRegisterServer" "005"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\browseui.dll|DllInstall|I" "007"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\shdocvw.dll|DllRegisterServer" "008"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\shdocvw.dll|DllInstall|I" "009"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\urlmon.dll|DllRegisterServer" "010"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\browsewm.dll|DllRegisterServer" "012"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\mshtml.dll|DllRegisterServer" "013"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\msrating.dll|DllRegisterServer" "017"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\plugin.ocx|DllRegisterServer" "018"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\sendmail.dll|DllRegisterServer" "020"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\asctrls.ocx|DllRegisterServer" "021"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\inetcpl.cpl|DllInstall|I" "022"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\mshtml.dll|DllInstall|I" "027"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\mshtmled.dll|DllRegisterServer" "033"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\proctexe.ocx|DllRegisterServer" "034"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\mshta.exe /register" "036"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\dxtrans.dll|DllRegisterServer" "037"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\dxtmsft.dll|DllRegisterServer" "035"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\mstime.dll|DllRegisterServer" "003"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\comctl32.dll|DllInstall|I" "029"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\corpol.dll|DllRegisterServer" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\102] @="Internet Tools" "002"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\imgutil.dll|DllRegisterServer" "003"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\pngfilt.dll|DllRegisterServer" "009"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\msxml3.dll|DllRegisterServer" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\103] "019"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\csseqchk.dll|DllRegisterServer" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\104] @="System Services" "002"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\actxprxy.dll|DllRegisterServer" "004"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\cdfview.dll|DllRegisterServer" "007"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\inseng.dll|DllRegisterServer" "008"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\iesetup.dll|DllInstall|i" "013"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\webcheck.dll|DllRegisterServer" "014"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\occache.dll|DllRegisterServer" "015"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\occache.dll|DllInstall|i" "024"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\iepeers.dll|DllRegisterServer" "030"="D:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\MSInfo\\ieinfo5.ocx|DllRegisterServer" "079"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\msident.dll|DllRegisterServer" "020"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\cryptdlg.dll|DllRegisterServer" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\500] "002"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\digest.dll|DllInstall|i,HKLM" "003"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\wininet.dll|DllInstall|i,HKLM" "010"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\urlmon.dll|DllInstall|i,HKLM" "019"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\msieftp.dll|DllRegisterServer" "087"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\tdc.ocx|DllRegisterServer" "088"="D:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\VGX\\vgx.dll|DllRegisterServer" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\800] "000"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\inetcomm.dll|DllRegisterServer" "001"="D:\\Program Files\\Outlook Express\\msoe.dll|DllRegisterServer" "002"="D:\\Program Files\\Outlook Express\\oeimport.dll|DllRegisterServer" "003"="D:\\Program Files\\Outlook Express\\oemiglib.dll|DllRegisterServer" "004"="D:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\System\\directdb.dll|DllRegisterServer" "005"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\msoeacct.dll|DllRegisterServer" "006"="D:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\System\\wab32.dll|DllRegisterServer" "007"="D:\\Program Files\\Outlook Express\\wabimp.dll|DllRegisterServer" "008"="D:\\Program Files\\Outlook Express\\wabfind.dll|DllRegisterServer" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\801] "000"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\jscript.dll|DllRegisterServer" "001"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\vbscript.dll|DllRegisterServer" "002"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\scrrun.dll|DllRegisterServer" "003"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\scrobj.dll|DllRegisterServer" "004"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\wshext.dll|DllRegisterServer" "005"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\wshcon.dll|DllRegisterServer" "006"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\wshom.ocx|DllRegisterServer" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\802] "000"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\jscript.dll|DllRegisterServer" "001"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\vbscript.dll|DllRegisterServer" "002"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\scrrun.dll|DllRegisterServer" "003"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\scrobj.dll|DllRegisterServer" "004"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\wshext.dll|DllRegisterServer" "005"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\wshcon.dll|DllRegisterServer" "006"="D:\\WINNT\\system32\\wshom.ocx|DllRegisterServer" I hope this helps someone other than just me...
  7. I used that method. It didn't work when I tested it on the desktop (like you are doing here). I tried it anyway in an unattended Windows install, and it worked without the messages. I have no idea why.
  8. Note that this is a procedural question. My question is at the bottom. Currently, I am using runonceex, but I have noticed that one of the service packs (or dx 9.0c, MP 9, or ie6sp1) also use it. I don't want to overwrite the service pack RunOnceEX, and I don't know what numbers the service pack uses so I don't know how which ones to avoid... [edit: removing excess info for easier readability] Now for my question. Does anyone know which svcpack uses RunOnceEx and which numbers it uses under %KEY% so I can avoid overwriting them or is there a better way to do this? I'm assuming I can overwrite the Title without problems...
  9. I tried to use HKU\.default versions of every HKCU registry entry and logged on with a new account to see if it would work. It didn't. I have not tried the HKU runonce key to see if I could make something run the first time anyone logs on yet. This seems a good way to apply custom registry settings for all users at first logon if it will work. I found an alternative here: MS KB 305707 Has anyone tried HKU\.default...\runonce? If so, which method is better?
  10. Thank you! Not only do I have all variables, I have a quality definition for each of them! Is there a way to rate responses in this forum? Or threads?
  11. Oops... there it is...Thank you
  12. Thank you. I knew it had to be something simple! So, it looks like they are:%ALLUSERSPROFILE% %APPDATA% %CommonProgramFiles% (%ProgramFiles%\Common Files) %ComSpec% (cmd.exe) %HOMEPATH% (same as %userprofile%) %ProgramFiles% %SystemRoot% (same as %windir%) %TEMP% or %TMP% (%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp) %USERPROFILE% (%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\Brandon) %winbootdir% (Win9x "Windows" folder if dual booting) %windir% (winnt folder) I noticed set did not display %systemdrive%. Are there more of these variables that SET does not display (even when using SET /?)?
  13. I know of a few variables: %userprofile% %allusersprofile% %windir% %systemroot% %systemdrive% (this goes to the boot drive for me instead of the system drive...) Where can I find a list of all the variables?
  14. 1.) No, it is not included with Windows 2000 Pro2.) Yes See This Page, where I found the resolution.
  15. My initial attempts to find a resolution returned too many hits. I didn't realize the search engine defaults an OR between keywords. I found a resolution on This Page. Windows 2000 users need to simply place reg.exe in winnt (or in $oem$\$$ on the cd). BTW, the command I was trying to launch was REG.
  16. I use Win2k Pro. When I try any REG statement, I get: Is this command only available in XP?
  17. Never mind... answer is here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...456&hl=trillian It's the last post.
  18. Does anyone know if this applies to Trillian 3 basic?
  19. Hi Mekrel, I put the drivers in $$ instead of $1 simply because I prefer not to have the drivers in a folder right on the %systemdrive% root. The reskit's .chm file says that the driver path will automatically put %systemdrive% in front of the path for the oem drivers, so I started with \winnt, which is where files placed in $$ end up. I can try moving the drivers to $1 and removing \winnt from my path, but since all my other drivers work this way I have not tried that. Should I try $1 anyway? Thank you again for your assistance. BTW, Gerry Hickman, in the microsoft.public.win2000.setup_deployment Forum believes the problem is related to an .inf file, but I have not found one yet - all paths seem fine.
  20. RESOLUTION:I found my own solution to this. If you have Windows XP, you probably don't see this error due to a later version of msiexec on your system. I have Windows 2000 Pro, and resolved this issue by installing the Windows Installer 3.0 Redistributable as a servicepack (via svcpack.inf). To ensure the Daemon tools installed after the msiexec 3.0 install, I installed it as an application with the above switches and it seems to be working fine.
  21. If you are looking IE for just one OS, search for "This folder is*.txt" (with the quotes) on a machine that already has it installed (and has the same OS). Delete the text file, and copy the remaining files to your svcpack folder (if deploying with Windows) or onto a network share of your choice (if just deploying ie). run setup.exe with these switches:setup.exe /q:u /r:n Hope this helps.
  22. Does anyone know how to install a DUN unattended with the user name and password? The above solution saves the phone number and the DUN name, but not the user name and password.
  23. Sorry for the delay. BTW, I have now tested with only vid drivers, and they alone cause the lockup. All my other drivers work when the Vid driver folder is not referenced in winnt.sif. My winnt.sif: ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [Unattended] DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPnPDriversPath=winnt\pnpdrvrs;winnt\pnpdrvrs\0mobo;winnt\pnpdrvrs\1nic;winnt\pnpdrvrs\3tvIn;winnt\pnpdrvrs\4sound;winnt\pnpdrvrs\5kbd;winnt\pnpdrvrs\6mouse;winnt\pnpdrvrs\7printer;winnt\pnpdrvrs\8scan; OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WinNT [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=penelope AutoLogon=Yes AutoLogonCount=3 OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=10 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] FullName="Brandon Stout" OrgName=FamilyHomeVCD.com ComputerName=Home ProductID=(Omitted) [FavoritesEx] Title1="myname.url" URL1="myurl" [Branding] BrandIEUsingUnattended=Yes [URL] Home_Page=http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/central.html Help_Page=http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/central.html Search_Page=http://www.google.com/ [TapiLocation] CountryCode=1 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=801 [GuiRunOnce] Command0=winnt\install.cmd [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes Screenshot of folder tree:
  24. I've tested the disk branding option now. It adds a DUN, but does not keep the user name and password. It also forces a reboot unless you extract it, and use the extracted setup file with /r:n. Does anyone know how to save a DUN so it keeps a user name and password? BTW, I'm open to other suggestions on ISP dialing, such as scripted dial up or a third party dialer. Thanks to anyone who can help.
  25. Thank you Joe. That single-disk branding should work. I hadn't noticed that option before sometimes one just needs a neighbor to point out something that is right under his nose... Thanks again.
