  1. We have a few computers. All have Windows XP. All but one can print fine to the network printers. The one that cannot, when I go to the printer properties, ports tab, will not keep the setting when we check the appropriate network port. I think this may be related to the problem. My google search string: "windows xp" -vista printer driver network port driver ("will not" OR wont) stay checked has not yielded anything helpful. Any suggestions where to turn next? Thank you.
  2. I'm finally migrating from 2000 Pro to XP. I received a copy of Windows XP Home (legal and not used). I'd like to upgrade it to XP Pro. Is there a low cost way to go from XP Home to XP Pro? Can one simply purchase a license/key and use a Home CD to install Pro via the PID? The India/South Africa CSRs I've reached by phone were not terribly helpful.
  3. I removed my EIDE drive from my self-built system. This left only my RAID1 SATA drives. I removed the first partition, then recreated it, but on install, that partition comes up as "D", and the second partition comes up as "C". I tried again since it may have been caused by removing the partition, but this time did not remove it. I still have the same issue. Naturally since each of these is a system or boot volume, I can't change it in the gui. 2 questions: How can I fix the drive letter designations? How can I fix the stupid 8mb unpartitioned space? I've removed the 8mb unpartitioned space before by formatting with a tool outside WinXP setup, but I'm wondering if there is a way to do this with WinXP setup.
  4. Sorry to bring this to the top again, but since I brought it up on the weekend, I'd like try one more time to see if anyone can answer this post. Does anyone have an answer?
  5. I want to: Run a program on a CD without an autorun.inf file Use a shortcut, batch or script to launch it's executable Use any available CD ROM drive (the drive letter can vary) How can I do this? I'm looking for something similar to: cdrom://runme.exe That's how I'd do it in Linux, anyway. Is there a way to do this in windows 2000 Pro? If not, what third party options are there? Thank you in advance.
  6. Solved! This works, unless you create the partitions with the Disk Management mmc. I finally backed up all my data to DVDs, and repartitioned during textmode setup. Now whenever I go back to textmode setup, it sees the partitions properly. I'm not sure why there's a difference, but it may be related to this: Before, Disk Management said each partition was "Dynamic". Now it simply says "Healthy". I'm not even sure if that matters, but in case someone else ever comes accross this issue, you'll need the Promise FastTrak 376 drivers, and you must partition in textmode setup... Thank you Fernando. I've now solved this. It appears I don't need the nvatabus.sys or the nvraid.sys files. I only needed the FastTrak drivers. See my post from a few minutes ago. I recently tried nLite, and it has improved dramatically since I first tried it. I may just move away from the manual method and use nLite now!
  7. I think so, but I never tried it. You have to use the W2k drivers instead of the XP ones. This didn't seem to work for me. I'm working on this issue in another thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST...t=0#entry482943 My motherboard info and other details are there. If you have any ideas, please post them there. I can later post any solution here, I just want to keep all suggestions in one place. Thanks in advance.
  8. Thank you. I tried this now: txtmode.sif additions to integrate nv drivers and fasttrak drivers [SourceDisksFiles] nvraid.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 NvAtaBus.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 nvcchflt.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 fasttx2k.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_008E = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0085 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00D5 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00EE = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E3 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E5 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0035 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0036 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_003E = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0053 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0054 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0055 = "nvatabus" GenNvRaidDisk = "nvraid" *_NVRAIDBUS = "nvraid" PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_3376 = "fasttx2k" [SCSI.Load] nvatabus = nvatabus.sys,4 nvraid = nvraid.sys,4 fasttx2k = fasttx2k.sys,4 [SCSI] nvatabus = "NVIDIA NForce Storage Controller (required)" nvraid = "NVIDIA RAID CLASS DRIVER (required)" fasttx2k = "Win2000 Promise FastTrak 376 (tm) Controller" One possible problem is how to tie nvcchflt.sys into [HardwareIdsDatabase], [sCSI.Load], and [sCSI]. I couldn't tell from the txtsetup.oem how to do so. I've verified I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard, but I couldn't find any information on MSI's site on how to upgrade the FastTrak controller's BIOS - if it's even possible. I'll update the attachments in my original post with the 2 txtsetup.oem files and my latest txtsetup.sif. Any other ideas? Thanks to anyone who can help. Any other ideas?
  9. I got some different drivers, and it works... almost. Now I'm using fasttx2k.sys, and I put these lines in txtsetup.sif: [SourceDisksFiles] fasttx2k.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_3376 = "fasttx2k" [SCSI.Load] fasttx2k = fasttx2k.sys,4 [SCSI] fasttx2k = "Win2000 Promise FastTrak 376 (tm) Controller" Now setup sees the stripe RAIDed drives as one drive, but now I have a new problem... I have 2 existing partitions. Setup sees only the extended partition, and thinks it's the primary partition. Interestingly enough, it's using the volume label for the primary partition it's not seeing, not the partition it is seeing. Any ideas from anyone? Thank you in advance.
  10. Edit with update: Thank you. I just tried this, and it didn't seem to work. I tried all the different driver versions it recommends, and even combined them with the fasttrak drivers. I still have the same issue. I'll bring this up in that thread as well.
  11. Thank you. I'll check the BIOS. I think I have the latest. Did you mean txtsetup.sif? txtsetup.oem is not part of textmode setup as I understand it. Also, I tried to install on an IDE drive to see if I got any errors. I got this:
  12. OK, the "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" was because I was booting from a dvd drive attached to my promise ATA card. I can now get to the menu to manage partitions, but it does not show my SATA RAID drives. Any ideas?
  13. I have a K7N2 Delta2-LSR motherboard. This motherboard supports NV RAID SATA interface. I want to add the drivers to text mode setup, but it's not working yet. Some internal references I'm using: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=14852 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=13173 I've added these lines to txtsetup.sif: [SourceDisksFiles] nvraid.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_008E = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0085 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00D5 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00EE = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E3 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E5 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0035 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0036 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_003E = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0053 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0054 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0055 = nvatabus [SCSI.Load] nvatabus = nvraid.sys,4 [SCSI] nvatabus = "NV2 RAID Driver" I'll attach txtsetup.sif and txtsetup.oem, zipped. Thank you in advance. nvtxtsetup.oem.zip txtsetup.sif.zip FastTrakTxtstup.oem.zip
  14. I have the same question. I'd like to use the original file rather than the one submitted below. Last time I checked, you had to do these steps to silently install dxsetup.exe (directx9.0c): Download the file Extract the file into some folder in svcpack (dx9c) Place this line in svcpack.inf: dx9c\dxsetup.exe /silent This was because the original setup file did not support the switches. Also, the extracted file didn't support the switches properly, but it worked with the /silent switch. Is this still the case for this Feb 2006 release? I checked the guide, but it's still using dx9.0b... Thanx in advance.
  15. How do you batch kill a process? I ask because some installers automatically open something after install. For examplem, I install Eraser with RunOnceEx. Eraser is an award-winning program from here: http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ It's an Inno setup installer, so I use these switches: eraser57.exe /VERYSILENT /SP- /NOCANCEL /NORESTART After installation, the eraser scheduler comes up, and the next app installs. In addition, these installers all have something automatically run after setup: Adaware - wants to check for updates FamilySearch - opens a Wordpad Readme I'd like to close these as they open so they don't clutter up the screen during setup. Besides, the internet connection doesn't exist yet, so you can't check for updates. I ran "help" from within cmd, and found no programs to "kill", or close a process. I appreciate any help in this matter.
  16. I noticed one more thing. Several .gif, .png, and .jpg files are (stupidly?) MS CAB-ed. This actually Increases those file sizes. If I have time, I'll de-CAB them and see if it's worth the bother...
  17. Here's my list of remaining files that do not end with "_". I suggest we verify this several times: ARCLDR.EXE ARCSETUP.EXE au.inf AUTOCHK.EXE AUTOFMT.EXE BIOSINFO.INF BOOTFIX.BIN CABINET.DLL CHKUPGRD.BAT DAJAVA.CAB DBGHELP.DLL DISK1 DMREG.INF DOSNET.INF DRIVER.CAB DRVINDEX.INF DSSBASE.DLL DTCSETUP.EXE EULA.TXT EXPAND.EXE FP40EXT.CAB FP40EXT1.CAB HALBORG.DLL HIVECLS.INF HIVEDEF.INF HIVESFT.INF HIVESYS.INF HIVEUSD.INF HOSTS HPMON.DLL HWCOMP.DAT IIS5_01.CAB IIS5_02.CAB IIS5_03.CAB IISDBG.CAB IMAGEHLP.DLL IMS.CAB IMS.CAT IMS1.CAB INS1.CAB INTL.INF IPINFO.INF KBDAL.DLL KBDARME.DLL KBDARMW.DLL KBDAZE.DLL KBDAZEL.DLL KBDBE.DLL KBDBLR.DLL KBDBR.DLL KBDBU.DLL KBDCA.DLL KBDCR.DLL KBDCZ.DLL KBDCZ1.DLL KBDCZ2.DLL KBDDA.DLL KBDDV.DLL KBDES.DLL KBDEST.DLL KBDFC.DLL KBDFI.DLL KBDFR.DLL KBDGAE.DLL KBDGEO.DLL KBDGKL.DLL KBDGR.DLL KBDGR1.DLL KBDHE.DLL KBDHE220.DLL KBDHE319.DLL KBDHELA2.DLL KBDHELA3.DLL KBDHEPT.DLL KBDHU.DLL KBDHU1.DLL KBDIC.DLL KBDIR.DLL KBDIT.DLL KBDIT142.DLL KBDKAZ.DLL KBDLA.DLL KBDLT.DLL KBDLT1.DLL KBDLV.DLL KBDLV1.DLL KBDNE.DLL KBDNO.DLL KBDPL.DLL KBDPL1.DLL KBDPO.DLL KBDRO.DLL KBDRU.DLL KBDRU1.DLL KBDSF.DLL KBDSG.DLL KBDSL.DLL KBDSL1.DLL KBDSP.DLL KBDSW.DLL KBDTAT.DLL KBDTUF.DLL KBDTUQ.DLL KBDUK.DLL KBDUR.DLL KBDUS.DLL KBDUSL.DLL KBDUSR.DLL KBDUSX.DLL KBDUZB.DLL KBDVNTC.DLL KBDYCC.DLL KBDYCL.DLL LAYOUT.INF MANAGER.CAB MODEM.CAB MSTASK.INF MSTASK.INI MSVCP50.DLL MSVCRT.DLL NOISE.ENG NOISE.ENU NTDETECT.COM NTDLL.DLL NTFS40.SYS NTLDR NTPRINT.INF NTSD.EXE NTSDEXTS.DLL OSC.CAB OSO001.007 OSO001.009 OSO001.010 OSO001.012 OSO001.016 OSO001.029 PIDGEN.DLL PRODSPEC.INI REGEDIT.EXE RSABASE.DLL SCHANNEL.DLL SETUPACC.TXT SETUPLDR.BIN SETUPP.INI SETUPREG.HIV SGLFB.DLL SGLFB.SYS sp4.cab sp4.cat SPCMDCON.SYS spdwnw2k.exe svcpack svcpack.inf SYSTEM32 TELNET.EXE TXTSETUP.SIF UNATTEND.TXT UNIPROC updtblk.inf USETUP.EXE WAVEMIX.INF WIN.CAB WINNT.EXE winnt.sif WINNT32.EXE WINNT32.HLP WINNT32.MSI WINNT32A.DLL WINNT32U.DLL WINSYS.CAB WINSYS32.CAB WMS41.CAB WORDPFCT.WPD WORDPFCT.WPG WSH.INF XMLDSO.CAB Hope this helps!
  18. Size before compression: 372.94 megs Size after compression: 309.52 megs -------------------------------------- Difference: 63.42 megs
  19. Cool! I'll compare the size before and after I finish, which will take a day or two. It did grow by over 100 megs when I ran the switch. I'll update in a couple days with the result.
  20. Knowing that the compressed files end with _ and the others do not, I ran this cmd command: dir /s I ran that command on: i386 without SR1 integrated i386 with SR1 integrated and post SR1 hotfixes that support the /integrate switch I coppied the file lists, and dumped them into MySQL, then queried for non-similar names. The result follows: acctres.dll adsiis.dll adsldp.dll adsldpc.dll adsmsext.dll advapi32.dll afd.sys agentdpv.dll asp.dll authz.dll basesrv.dll bitsinst.exe bitsprx2.dll bitsprx3.dll browser.dll browseui.dll callcont.dll catsrv.dll catsrvut.dll cdfs.sys chkdsk.exe ciodm.dll clbcatex.dll clbcatq.dll cluscfg.exe clusocm.inf clussvc.exe cluster.inf cmd.exe colbact.dll comadmin.dll comrepl.dll comsetup.dll comsvcs.dll comuid.dll crypt32.dll cryptdlg.dll cryptnet.dll cryptsvc.dll cryptui.dll csrsrv.dll dao360.dll default.asp dhtmled.ocx directdb.dll dnsapi.dll dnsrslvr.dll dplayx.dll dpwsockx.dll dsexts.dll dsprop.dll dxmasf.dll es.dll eventlog.dll expsrv.dll fastfat.sys faxui.dll fltlib.dll fltmc.exe fltmgr.sys fontview.exe ftdisk.sys gdi32.dll gpedit.dll grpconv.exe h323.tsp h323msp.dll halmacpi.dll hfsecper.inf hfsecupd.inf hh.exe hhctrl.ocx hhsetup.dll hlink.dll html32.cnv httpext.dll hypertrm.dll iischema.dll iisext.dll imgview.htt inetcomm.dll inetres.dll inseng.dll ipnat.sys ipnathlp.dll itircl.dll itss.dll jscript.dll kdcsvc.dll kerberos.dll kernel32.dll krnl386.exe ksecdd.sys linkinfo.dll llssrv.exe localspl.dll lsasrv.dll lsass.exe mf3216.dll mountmgr.sys mpr.dll mq1repl.dll mq1sync.exe mqac.sys mqads.dll mqclus.dll mqdscli.dll mqdssrv.dll mqmig.exe mqmigrat.dll mqoa.dll mqperf.dll mqqm.dll mqrt.dll mqsec.dll mqsnap.dll mqupgrd.dll mqutil.dll mrxsmb.sys msasn1.dll msconv97.dll msdtclog.dll msdtcprx.dll msdtctm.dll msdtcui.dll msdxm.ocx msexch40.dll msexcl40.dll msgina.dll msgsvc.dll mshtml.dll msi.dll msiexec.exe msihnd.dll msimsg.dll msisip.dll msjet40.dll msjetol1.dll msjint40.dll msjter40.dll msjtes40.dll msltus40.dll msmq.cpl msoe.dll msoeres.dll msoert2.dll mspbde40.dll msrating.dll msrd2x40.dll msrd3x40.dll msrepl40.dll mst120.dll mstask.dll mstask.exe mstext40.dll msv1_0.dll mswdat10.dll mswrd632.wpc mswstr10.dll msxbde40.dll msxml3.dll msxml3r.dll mtstocom.exe mtxclu.dll mtxdm.dll mtxlegih.dll mtxoci.dll mup.sys nddenb32.dll netapi32.dll netbt.sys netcfgx.dll netdde.exe nethood.htt netlogon.dll netmon.exe newdev.dll nmcom.dll nntpfs.dll nntpsvc.dll nscm.exe nsiislog.dll nsisapi.exe nspmon.exe ntdsa.dll ntfs.sys NTKRNLMP.EXE ntkrnlpa.exe NTKRPAMP.EXE ntlanman.dll ntoskrnl.exe ntvdm.exe ntvdmd.dll nwrdr.sys ODBC32.DLL ODBCBCP.DLL ODBCCP32.DLL oeimport.dll ole32.dll olecli32.dll olecnv32.dll osloader.exe pngfilt.dll profmap.dll psbase.dll psxss.exe qmgr.dll qmgrprxy.dll quartz.dll query.dll rasapi32.dll rasdlg.dll rasman.dll rasscrpt.dll rdbss.sys rdpwd.sys remotesp.tsp rpcproxy.dll rpcrt4.dll rpcss.dll RTMGDR samlib.dll samsrv.dll scecli.dll scesrv.dll scsiport.sys seclogon.dll services.exe SFCFILES.DLL shdocvw.dll shell32.dll shlwapi.dll sp3res.dll spoolss.dll spoolsv.exe SQLSRV32.DLL srv.sys srvsvc.dll system.adm tapisrv.dll tcpip.sys tshoot.ocx txfaux.dll udfs.sys umandlg.dll untfs.dll url.dll urlmon.dll user32.dll userenv.dll vbajet32.dll vbscript.dll vdmdbg.dll w32time.dll w32tm.exe wab32.dll wab32res.dll webvw.dll win32k.sys winhttp.dll wininet.dll winlogon.exe wins.exe winsrv.dll wintrust.dll wkssvc.dll wldap32.dll wlnotify.dll wms wordpad.exe wow32.dll write32.wpc xolehlp.dll xpob2res.dll In the uniproc subfolder, you can also compress: KERNEL32.DLL The RTMGDR and wms subfolders do not exist before SR1 /integrate, so you can probably compress all the files in them as well. 21. Thank you. Which files are required to start text setup? Is there a list?
