i attempted to install the latest extended kernel release and now windows boot manager fails...
file:hal.dll
Status:0xc0000098
-------------------------
it exists and isnt corrupt as using the older extended kernel osloader files worked. but idk why windows wont boot.
also i need the video driver for a 4th and 5th gen i5 that works with vista. has anyone modded them?

If you use Pascal (10xx) videocard on windows XP with successfully modded drivers you will get no 3D-perfomance. I just want to clarify this to people who will read it in the future: NO 3D Perfomance.
This is cause THERE IS NO PASCAL DRIVER FOR WINDOWS XP that is capable to do 3D-perfomance. Because Nvidia did not create that driver.
However i want to say something unusual. Since there is interest for so many people for XP Pascal Driver maybe some measures can be done?
368.81 for XP does not support Pascal. However 368.81 for more modern Windows system support Pascal videocards. So MAYBE it is possible for experienced programmers to modify XP version, using Win7 version of a driver as donor? Like yea, i know it's hi-tech stuff. But there is programmers that work on wine, reactOS etc. Could they be attracted or hired through crowdfunding? Maybe the size of a work not so big? I know it sounds crazy, but who knows, right?
i know. i still need to find another used GTX560. as for the guy who replied to you mentioning windows 10. dont mention windows 10 to me. that is asking for me to ragepost...

Indeed, the thing about 2000 getting drivers after Vista was too strange to be true. I found some Vista drivers that support 8111 series:
i wonder how difficult it is to rewrite or modify drivers for use on XPx64 and Vista.

Well, at least where nVidia's concerned, the whole XP family's in the same boat. It was actually here that I learned it was possible to inf mod 368.81 so that the XP family (including XP64) can use it for the GTX TITAN X (Maxwell) and so I specifically sought that card so I could take advantage on my XP64 rig.
I don't think anyone's made progress on getting any 10xx cards working with any of the XP family. It's looking like right now, if you can get a driver and a 10xx card to play nice with XP64, you're likely going to be seeing worse performance than you would with a 9xx card.
well. im speaking from XP now. using the integrated graphics. this machine has 4 OS's installed. and is my main PC. i modded the 368.81 driver. and on startup it bluescreened with the System file i mentioned listed as the cause(nv4_mini.sys)

Realtek 8111E, apparently. But the sources I've seen apparently put the last Vista driver package in 2009, while they continued to make Windows 2000 drivers afterwards. I'd expect XP x64 drivers to be backward compatible on Vista:
well when i ran the installer it gave an error
and when i manually used the inf in device manager. it saw it as nothing

I don't believe such drivers for XP exist, and my initial driver-based attempts to mod for Vista failed. I will try to see if it likes DX 11.1 binaries better than 11.0 ones, but that might take awhile to realize.
For USB3, try this:
i did that driver. i thought it wasnt working at the time due to "pci device" having the errored icon. but it turns out it is working. i should have checked before i mentioned USB3. how about the ethernet?
oh btw i want to change my vista start button but cant. i want to change it because the start button photobombs my CTRL+ALT+PRNTSCRN window screenshots

I made an experimental version of ntoskrnl that is unable to change the key, but it isn't the one that is in the folder IIRC, as I found the registry key to have little effect on the system. I thought it had more of an impact on the OS then, but now it doesn't seem that way.
The idea to change the version numbers in ntoskrnl came from 2000/XP, where it is more substantial.
ah ok. Speaking of XP. i need the Nvidia Gefore GTX 1060 drivers for XP 64-bit. and a updated set for vista. has anyone tried modding the latest driver for vista and maybe some older one for XP64-bit? as for the usb 3.0 driver. XP 64-bit gets one for my board. but NO DRIVERS on the MSI Site for Vista(most the drivers for 7 do.but the USB 3 and ethernet ones dont) so if anything helps the board is a MSI Z77a-g43 and the GTX1060 is a Gigabyte AORUS card

sorry to post on a article that hasn't been posted on for more than half of a year. but XP64-bit is harder to get drivers for isnt it. i need functional drivers for a GTX1060. i tried inf modding but on startup windows XP Bluescreens because of nv4_mini.sys

I believe it spoofs the NT version from 6.0 to 6.1 to make certain programs think its on Windows 7, since the kernels are essentially the same.
well i looked in the registry(yes i did apply it) and it still says 6.1 on both instances
i want to get the latest Minecraft Launcher working. because of the end of support for the legacy launcher is on the 2nd quarter of this year

15.x versions are bad (glitchy) in @win32's and my opinion , sorry.
14.x?
also glitchy may explain why the discord client kept ending my streams on windows 7
