ok i did install it. but i got the problem again. i installed all the updates i did on my thinkpad under vista. but windows boot manager refuses to work. what did i do wrong this time. i installed the kernel like i normally do.
winload.efi
0xc0000428
never mind this i figured it out. i just had to restart with the original files and use the batch file to see how to manually do everything. since it keeps failing on its own

Windows 7 is not supported by Blender anymore, and Requirements further specify “Haswell architecture and newer” which is inhospitable to Vista. Previous versions might be worth a try.
um. for the further requirements... my pc has a 3rd gen i7

I won’t ask how (but others may wonder).
honestly i looked it up. followed a video. forgot what it was. i would need to boot into vista and wait for 1000+updates to configure

how do i use the extended kernel if i cant update vista at all(tried everything...). also if discord is working on vista without needing a web browser that would be good. Windows 8.1 is also causing problems on this PC so i want to move to vista. and i want to get steam fully working too... so i can just use Vista as my main OS
EDIT. I finally Got Windows Update working. ofc i find the way when i say i tried everything. i thought i did.

@ScrapMechanicFan2016 , try to install KB4467700-x64 from 2017-2018 or so , I remember when I tried one of the previous ex-kernel versions , it helped . But that was in November or December and I haven't tried any new versions and uninstalled everything. I do not like having anything on my PC that I do not use .
well it seems it didnt work...

Yes it would, though if you have the SHA-2 update, I would assume that it would have cached a 6003.20xxx HAL (which would be acceptable as I haven't released a HAL mod) instead of a 6002.18005 one.
oh. does the extended kernel support lightcord at least? it would be great to have a proper discord client that at least works with vista. even if it isnt official. i will get to working on my main PCs copy of vista later. I'm doing my Dell XPS Studio M1640 which runs Windows Vista Home Premium.

@ScrapMechanicFan2016 has posted in the lengthy Extended Kernel thread, “Webroot Secure Anywhere requires the SHA-2 updates...” (That is also true of ESET, or soon will be.) I wonder what version of Webroot he is using with extended kernel, and what was the last version to officially support Windows Vista? I can see that Webroot System Requirements no longer include Vista, and there is a download for the final XP-compatible release, which would no doubt work on vanilla Vista but wasn’t necessarily the last version to support Vista. We try to keep track of such details in the thread Last versions of software for Windows Vista.
wait when did they stop? im on webroot secure anywhere 9.0.29.62 which happens to be the same version installed on my windows 8,1 install on my main. im typing this from my Dell XPS Studio which is running Windows Vista Home Premium. my main has windows vista business, windows 7 professional, and windows 8.1 pro. Vista has the extended kernel on the main. but not here. meaning afaik windows vista is still supported by Webroot. yes i installed the sha2 updates. but i havent installed the extended kernel on this laptop. also my windows XP machine may be running the latest too. i will check later. that XP install hasnt had updates at all. except for Unofficial Service Pack 4
FINAL EDIT> just checked. and nope. but it isnt far behind. it is 9.0.27.49 on XP... meaning now i know what is the latest for XP... i didnt know before...1 -

There are only two acceptable update levels, and two separate filesets for each; April 2017 (which is the standard for the update distribution), or March 2019 (which needs different variants of ntoskrnl and winload (exe/efi) that are not currently incorporated into the installer, though they will be with the next version); the latter is the SHA-2 update point. This was done to placate some applications that reportedly requested the presence of the SHA-2 update.
webroot secure anywhere requires the SHA-2 updates, so yes i do have that.
and startup repair replaced hal.dll with the Stock Windows Vista SP2 one. will that hinder the extended kernel at all?1 -
i tried to install the extended kernel again. this time i made a restore point and unfortunately. hal.dll same error code... cant boot. idk why.(yes i installed more updates)

k just got vista to boot. had to use startup repair tho.
how do i get it to the latest update level.
also i got steam working again.
and i want to use the discord or Lightcord Clients. afaik the lightcord setup needs ResolveLocaleName of kernel32.dll and the discord executable requires K32EnumProcessModules of the same DLL
how do i know what the update level is at...
i cant use windows update as it fails. (code 80072EFE) even on a fresh install of windows0

will Microsoft Office 2019 be able to be installed and ran on Windows Vista with the latest release? if so it'd be ready enough for me to use vista as my main OS on my main rig(Vista business is my main OS on my thinkpad)
