  1. Well, this is exactly what I did:

    I checked:

    Components

    Tweaks

    Unattended setup

    Bootable ISO

    - Enable before apply

In the Compatibility window that makes you check what you are planning to use so that vLite saves the needed files, I checked everything (you never know when you'll need one of those things).

In Components, the only things I checked / removed were:

    Welcome Center

    Sample Pictures

    Network Projector

    MSN Installer

    TabletPC

In Tweaks, I changed the power scheme to "High Performance" and for Explorer I set "Show hidden files and folders" and "Show protected operating system files" to yes.

In Unattended, the only thing I did was check "Skip user creation".

Then after those things, I pressed "Apply" and did the rebuild and apply option. I chose only Windows Vista Ultimate in the beginning since that's what the original disk is that I bought.

After vLite did its thing I saved the ISO then used IMGBurn to burn the ISO to DVD.

  2. Relax dude, give people some time to read.

    Its not a chatbox here.

What's a "chatbox"? Anyway, sorry for those bumps after every 4 or 5 hours. I'm used to busy forums like Anandtech and Hardforums where you usually get a reply within minutes.

i havent seen that in the 1.1 vlite beta, and i just made a vlite'd ultimate x64 for my dad. it might help to see ur last session.ini. and please, post it as an attachment, don't copy and paste it all in ur post.. i really wish ppl would stop doing that...

    -joll

Thanks. In your Dad's vlited Ultimate x64, did you choose to skip user creation as well so that the only account after install is the "GOD account"? Where do I find the last session.ini? The PC I made this vlited disk in has already been reformatted so if it was in vlite's directory it's gone already.

  3. Its not included. The new version just fixes the following issue:
Just wanted to warn you not to install the newly leaked performance patch KB938979 if you removed

    components certain components with vLite.

Doing so might cause your system not to be able to rename folders and similar issues.

Components removed which cause this problem are:

    Game Explorer

    Printer Support

    Sidebar

    Media Samples

    Windows Search

    Sync Center

You can remove all other and the KB938979 will work just fine.

Fixed in the next version, out probably on monday, got to finish some other things as well.

Are the sample pitures counted as Media Samples? If we removed any of the above items, how do we fix the problem without making a new vLited disk using 1.1 beta?

  4. Ok, I made a new Vista disk using the latest version of vLite. I chose the same options I chose when I made my previous disk using the previous version of vLite. With my previous disk, selecting the skip user creation resulted in a single account which was also the "GOD account" that would not prompt me everytime I wanted to change something (I guess that's the UAC thing?). I've made two new Vista disks so far with this latest version of vLite (1.1 beta). Each time I make my changes and select skip user creation and then press apply right before making the ISO (also choosing to rebuild and remove all versions except for Ultimate 64-bit which is what I have). After the ISO is made, I burn to a disk. I've installed them and during setup, it still asks me to type in a name for the account. After Vista is fully installed, it's a regular account that shows up as an administrator when I go to Control Panel -> User Accounts. I know it's not the "GOD account" though because when I go into:

    secpol.msc -> Local Policies -> Security Options

"Accounts: Administrator account status" is disabled. Also, when I do anything, it acts like a normal Vista install prompting me to allow everything I do.

What's going on here? How come this isn't working anymore (having only the "GOD account" when skip user creation is selected) with this new version of vLite? I've made two disks on two separate computer (both running 64-bit versions of Vista that haven't been modified with vLite or any other tools and have been updated with all available updates from Windows Update) using vLite 1.1 beta and choosing the same options each time. Installing from both disks yields the same results.

I press the apply button only once during the whole process and that's right before making the ISO. I also choose to rebuild with only the version of Vista that I have (Vista Ultimate 64-bit).

  6. Thanks for explaining all that. :)

So if I'm just going to be removing components, tweaking, changing some of the unattended setup options and creating a bootable ISO at the end, I don't need to check / enable the "Enable before apply" option?

  7. I'd like to be able to multi-boot Vista Ultimate x64 and Windows XP SP2 (32-bit) while they're each installed on a separate hard drive. Is this possible? I'd like to have it so a boot menu comes up automatically that lets me choose which OS to boot. Also, I need to be able to access files from one OS on the other OS.

How do I got about doing this? Thanks for any help.

  8. Ok, I just setup Outlook 2007 w/ my AIM Mail account (IMAP service) and have a problem. When I created the account in Outlook, the only folder listed is the Inbox. When I access my AIM Mail account on the web though, I have more folders:

    New Mail

    Old Mail

    Sent

    Spam

    Recently Deleted

    My Folders:

    Saved Mail

How do I get Outlook to show these folders as well? I tried manually creating them, but Outlook just tells me this, "Cannot create the folder. Cannot create or navigate to the folder. You cannot create or navigate to subfolders of your Inbox when you have a non-empty Root Folder Path."

I thought when you sync an IMAP account for the first time, it automatically makes changes in your email program to reflect all changes in your actual account online (folders, emails, etc.)?

  9. Ok, all I want to do is enable the "GOD" account and have it named with whatever name I want, without having to setup another account during Vista's install. What options in vLite do I need to choose to do this?

So basically I want it so that when Vista is finished installing, the only account there is the "GOD" account with whatever name I assigned to it.

  10. Thanks for the info. nuhi! So this new CD that is a merge of my two MCE CD's should install fine then even without those two files? It's pretty much like the one I made in July (that one works perfectly) except for the additional tweaks I added that NLite offered + an update or two.

  11. Don't those two files have to be in the root for the disc to be bootable? Anyway I guess it doesn't matter. I put an empty hard drive in my system and the new CD in my optical drive and the system still booted from that CD, even though it doesn't have those two files (boot.bin and boot.catalog). Weird...

Also, I have Windows showing hidden files and those two files are the only two files this new CD does not have compared to the CD I made in July.

  12. Ok. This past July, with an older version of NLite, I joined my two Windows XP MCE CDs into one CD using NLite. In NLite, at the end, I chose to make an ISO. After I burned the ISO with Nero, the CD had these two files in it (in addition to all the other files):

    boot.bin

    boot.catalog

I downloaded and installed the newest NLite yesterday and made a new, single CD Windows XP MCE (to add some new tweaks, etc.), but after making the ISO with NLite and buring the ISO to CD with Nero, this CD does not have the two files (boot.bin and boot.catalog).

Anyone know what these two files are for and why they're not in the new MCE CD I made? I followed the same exact procedures making this new CD as I did with the first one I made back in July. Only differences are I used the version of NLite that was out in July to make the first CD and used the latest version of NLite now, to make the new CD (and also added some of the new tweaks / options available in this new version of NLite).
