  1. Ok, I've zipped up all the minidump files, but it won't let me attach it. I says, "The total filespace required to upload all the attached files is greater than your per post or global limit. Please reduce the number of attachments or the size of the attachments.". I do not have any other attachments posted here and the zipped up minidumps is only ~700Kb.

  2. It's just as if the reset button had been pressed. That kind of reboot. She doesn't have many peripherals connected. Just a webcam, mouse and keyboard, and powered speakers. I'll change it to a kernel type dump when I have the chance. After the next random reboot that happens once I change it to a kernel type dump, I'll attach it here.

  3. Just assembled my sister a new PC and once in awhile it will just randomly reboot. I'm not sure what is causing this. I know it's not the CPU overheating as I've checked the BIOS right after one of these random reboots and the temps are fine. I've run memtest86+ for the past 14 hours and it hasn't detected any errors.

I've checked the minidump folder in C:\Windows\Minidump and there are files with the extension *.dmp. I opened a couple with notepad, but it's just a bunch of strange symbols, letters and numbers.

Last time it did a random restart, as soon as Windows started back up, I went to the Even Viewer. I didn't see any errors under the first column "Type". I did see an Information entry with the source "Save Dump". I double clicked on that and it said this:

    Event Type: Information

    Event Source: Save Dump

    Event Category: None

    Event ID: 1001

    Date: 2/18/2006

    Time: 1:44:48 AM

    User: N/A

    Computer: My PC

    Description:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000000a (0xffffffef, 0x000000ff, 0x00000001, 0x804e0417). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini021806-01.dmp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

All the entries that appear in the Event Viewer around the time immediately after a random reboot have the same information as above.

  4. I don't have outlook on pc here at work.

But I think if you select tools | options and then mail preferences you can change mail settings within their.

HTML viewing is bad, and if you use the preview mode your "reading" the e-mail and so any dodgy code hidden within it can be executed without direct need for it to be opened.

Plain Text is easier for all people to read and understand.

I do not care if it is bad to have HTML viewing. I have an email scanner that scans emails as they are downloaded. Also, plain text is not easier to read and understand. If you saw how those HTML emails are turning out after being turned into plain text (as is happening to me), you would understand.

  5. Hi there, Microsoft with one of their security patches took away that ability, it is to allow you to prevent scripts from running - E-mail attachment security Prevents users from accessing several file types when sent as e-mail attachments. Affected file types include executables, batch files, and other file types that contain executable code often used by malicious hackers to spread viruses

Object Model Guard Prompts users with a dialog box when an external program attempts to access their Outlook Address Book or send e-mail on their behalf, which is how insidious viruses such as ILOVEYOU spread.

Heightened Outlook default security settings Increase the default Internet security zone setting within Outlook from "Internet" to "restricted sites."

If you have 2003 here is a link http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistan...3264181033.aspx but it is easier to just right click the x and download the picture, especially from a trusted source, than having to deal with cleaning up the spyware that will affect you later...

That really doesn't help me. I don't care for all these "security" and "safety" measures Microsoft put into Outlook 2003 updates. I have good virus, adware / spyware scanners running that also check my emails. I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO SEE HTML EMAILS THE WAY THEY WERE MEANT TO BE VIEWED! I do not want to see mangled up, unreadable emails.

Sigh... I guess I'm gonna have to look for another email program that doesn't have crippled HTML email viewing capabilities.

  6. have you got your mail to read all in plain text or ms word rich text instead of html as this can effect the look.

for safety your better to use plain as less able to receive dodgy hidden code.

I'm pretty sure I don't have it set to plain text or rich text, but how do I check to make sure? I'm not concerned about the "safety". I have enough email scanners to keep me safe.

  7. I'm having a little problem with Outlook 2003. Everytime I receive emails with HTML, graphics, links, etc., it comes in mangled. All the html is in the form of hyperlinks. For example, I receive email promos from Newegg.com and whenever that comes in, all the pictures are links to the pictures instead of the actual pictures being displayed. Also, the actual product links in the email show the full url in blue instead of just how it really is (the name of the product shown is a clickable link to the product). Does anyone know how to fix this?

  8. It's "mice". Anyway, USB and PS/2 ports both deliver 5V so I don't think it's a power problem. I'm guessing now that the keyboard is purely USB and has no chip or something in it that will let it work with USB to PS/2 adapters.

So anyone know if there are any in-line adapters that I could plug between the keyboard and the USB to PS/2 adapter that will convert the keyboard's signals to PS/2 and vice versa? Does something like that exist?

  9. The green USB dooba-wacker you used probably came from a usb mouse :P... I think by memory the mouse and keyboard have different PS2 point layouts... I could whip up some schematics for you to change the values of the PS2 point layouts of the usb mouse thingy to a PS2 plug for a keyboard converter... hope that wasn't confusing.. lol

BUT, thats the hard way around.. best bet is to either goto some non high-corporation and goto some small business, such as DSE and JayCar here in Australia :) they'll be able to help you with no problems !! and get a converter there...

(Harvey norman... or hardley normal.. sucks.. lol)

Or you could forcebly shove the USB into the PS2.. lmao !

Yeah, figured the green one wouldn't work as well, but did you read everything before that? I tried two different purple ones as well...

  10. Yeah. I've tried two different purple USB to PS/2 adapters already. One came from an older Logitech keyboard and the other from a Logitech MX3100 set.

I've also tried a green USB to PS/2 adapter just for the heck of it.

With all three, the keyboard doesn't work. I know it works though as it is just fine when I hook it up to one of my USB ports.

  11. I just got this Dell keyboard:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5818971530

    http://pcpartsinc.com/prods/DE-W7658.jpg

It's a simple USB keyboard (no USB hub built into it). I tried to use a purple, generic USB to PS/2 adapter (has keyboard icon on it), but my computer would give a boot error saying that it couldn't find a keyboard. I want to use it on the PS/2 port because I like having the ability to power on my PC with my keyboard (my BIOS has an option for this). Anyone know of a USB to PS/2 adapter / converter that will work with this keyboard? Thanks.

  12. I recently tried using a dual monitor setup on my PC (running on Windows XP Pro. SP2 w/ all available Windows Updates). Worked great, but had to send out one of the monitors to exchange it. It's gonna be awhile till I get it back.

The problem is that when I had both monitors setup, when I would open Outlook and some other programs, I moved their window to the second monitor. Eventually they started opening up in the second monitor on their own. Now that I don't have that second monitor, whenever I open those programs, they open out of the Viewable screen as if the second monitor was still there. I've tried right click on their button down in the taskbar and selecting "Move", but nothing happens.

Anyone know how I can get those programs to move back to my primary / single monitor? Thanks.

  13. Not sure if this should go in the programming forums, but can anyone please show me how to write a batch file that will launch a program and then close / exit another one at the same time, and then when the program that was launched is closed, re-launch / re-open the one that was closed in the beginning? This is for World of Warcraft and Logitech Setpoint. When World of Warcraft is launched, I want Logitech Setpoint to close and when I close World of Warcraft, I want Logitech Setpoint to re-launch.

    Thanks for any help.

  14. Ok. I have two partitions on my hard drive: C and D. I'm running Windows XP Pro. SP2. When go to run error-checking for C it tells me that it has to do it the next time I restart or startup my PC. However, for D it just does it from within Windows. Is there any way I can do error-checking for D at restart as well? I want Windows to do the error-checking for both partitions at restart, C then D. Thanks for any help.

  15. Everyone sorry I have been absent most of the time & I know I promised a new version, I still do intend to code my last version that incorporates everything that everyone has asked for, but at the moment I busy with examinations so I can't spend too much time on it :( But as soon as I have break I'll finish up that final version (maybey not final if it contains bugs ;) )

Nice work Gnome! Have gotten around to the above yet? I wish you luck on your finals. ;)
