  1. I've tried to use the Scan Disk as I believe there are errors. The trouble I have in scanning is it keeps trying to do it then stops and starts over. I suspect this is due to screen saver or some other program. I don't know how to disable screen saver, a simple task. I am not a trained cmputer person!
  2. We had a technician come to our house on Saturday and he spent a little over an hour and finally removed all the Norton traces. We bought the Norton originally in 2002 and updated it in 2004. It was due now and that's when I attempted to uninstall it and then the trouble began. Now with it gone, everything works again.
  3. While making a change from my expired Norton to AVG, I had some problems with Comcast recognizing what I did. Comcast.net has a conflict with this. I went to do a system restore and now that will not open and also the sustem search is not opening. I still have Outlook Express and the internet. I have a Dell PC with Windows XP. (I am not really a very sharp computer person)
  4. Today I went on to my HP Pavilion 6630 and read my e-mail and everything was fine. I closed the page and went on the internet and I returned later to check for e-mail and all the data - inbox, deletes, address book, etc, was deleted. I checked by going to the main Comcast site and logged in there and everything was lost there, too. The other PC, the Dell with XP didn't lose anything. I went to re boot the HP Pc and it went into a scan automatically, as if there were damaged files. I left for awhile and came back after the scan, and the Outlook Express was still missing everything. I don't know what caused this. Is there a way to get the data back? (I am not a very good computer person) Thanks, John
  5. I have an HP Pavilian 6630 with Windows 98 SE. I cannot find the original disc and I would like to recreate it but I don't have the original serial number. I assume it is on the PC somewhere, but I don't know where to find it. Is it the same as the product number on the Windows 98 instruction book? That I have. Thanks.
  6. First, I am not really a computer person. I have an older, second PC, an HP Pavilion 6630 with Windows 98SE that I started using again. I use it for internet surfinga and making CDs & mp3s for music and old radio shows. I have added 64mb ram to give it 128, replaced the CD burner and when the PC was fairly new, added Sound Blaster. What would I gain by adding the SP upgrades? any particular one? I would appreciate any guidance here.
  7. I am not really a computer person. I resurrected an older HP PC with Windows 98SE. I have since upgraded the CDR burner and put in Sound Blaster when the PC was fairly new. I am now looking at the Windows 98SE SP that is availiable here. I only use this PC to internet surf and make CDs and mp3s for old radio shows and music. I am just curious if the W98 SP upgrades here are worth the effort and what kind of pitfalls await me if I attempt this. Thanks for any advice.
