Hi Sergiaws. The default view in old RetroZilla is often broken for displaying all sorts of stuff, such as headers, links, pictures, input fields, etc. In RetroZilla try changing View -> Use Style -> None to see if it helps.

K-Meleon TLS 1.2 in vanilla Windows 98 SE
Wunderbar98 replied to Wunderbar98's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Hi siria. Unless mistaken Windows 98 has no ability to unzip even a *.zip file extension after fresh install, an *.exe installer may be best. Kernel extensions may be trialed on a future system, probably just for a browser, nothing else needed here. Lots of time can be spent configuring K-Meleon but in the end i'm only using the StyleKILL macro, privacy bar, minor keyboard binding and toolbar tweaks, good enough. The K-Meleon site and wiki has lots of information, this link may help other new users. http://kmeleonbrowser.org/wiki/ConfigFiles -

Watched a well done 20:00 min YouTube video entitled 'The History of Windows 98 Development'. A review of various development builds, comparisons with Windows 95, new and experimental features, good stuff. There are numerous similarly titled videos for other releases too. Also the Computer Chronicles series can be found at archive[dot]org. There are episodes about old hardware, browsers, Windows 3/95/98, etc. Lots of retro stuff surrounding the Windows 9x era. No JavaScript needed to view and download. In RetroZilla change View -> Use Style -> None and in K-Meleon v1.5.4 use the StyleKill macro. Computer Chronicles Internet Archive Hosted by Stewart Cheifet, Computer Chronicles was the world's most popular television program on personal technology during the height of the personal computer revolution. It was broadcast for twenty years from 1983 - 2002. The program was seen on more than 300 television stations in the United States and in over 100 countries worldwide, with translations into French, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic. -

K-Meleon TLS 1.2 in vanilla Windows 98 SE
Wunderbar98 replied to Wunderbar98's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Hi siria. K-Meleon launches after copying both MSVCP71.DLL (v7.10.3077.0) and MSVCR71.DLL (v7.10.3052.4) from the formal K-Meleon v1.5.4 installer into @roytam1's extracted K-Meleon1.5.4en-US.tls12.7z directory, running k-meleonW9x.exe. It creates a new profile in C:\WINDOWS\Application Data. New unzip test with the two DLLs added plus a new empty file named 'profile.ini' launches the browser and creates the new profile in the extracted browser's directory. Please note this is not considered a proper test, may be false positive, interference from the formal intall. Still best for a fresh system tester to provide confirmation. With a retro resurgence, there are probably visitors here daily with fresh installs looking for information, just maybe not so many willing to test and provide feedback. So end-user can move the DLLs themselves or maybe @roytam1 can repack the browser, adding the DLLs and possibly the profile.ini file. My K-Meleon doesn't start itself automatically, that would be scary. The issue was starting from Quick Launch even after the installation directory was renamed DISABLED, problem resolved it's a Quick Launch issue. Actually my K-Meleon is running well, very happy. End up using both RetroZilla and K-Meleon during sessions, can't decide yet which one i like better, both wonderful. If @roytam1's Firefox v3.6 worked in vanilla Windows 98 that would be magic. Loved that browser back in the day, fondly remember a discussion with a deceased cousin whether to upgrade to v3.6. He was old school and didn't want the update. Enjoy life it passes very quickly. According to Wikipedia, Firefox v3.6 was actually Mozilla's longest supported browser: Mozilla discontinued support for Firefox 3.6 on April 24, 2012, which at over 27 months of support made it the longest supported version of Firefox, even longer than Firefox 2 which had over 26 months of total support itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox_3.6 -

Hi loblo. A 900 MB upload would take me a while. No need for another release, the Cygwin-Legacy you linked is circa 2008 and works great in vanilla Windows 98. Nice update, believe Cygwin-Lite was 2003 era. Posted via Cygwin-Legacy's Links v1.00pre20 browser, connects to this forum but not all HTTPS sites. Unfortunately Cygwin-Legacy breaks my Enhanced Cygwin-Lite. No worries the data and registry was backed up. After numerous reinstall attempts, trying different things, reversing install order, manual registry cleaning, etc, there are functions in both Cygwin-Lite and Cygwin-Legacy either configured or hard coded to C:\cygwin (default path). Changing install path with either installer doesn't fix this. For example, despite telling Cygwin-Legacy to use C:\cygwin-legacy, it still created an empty directory structure in C:\cygwin along with the C:\cygwin-legacy installation files. Similarly, installing Cygwin-Lite into C:\cygwin-lite seems okay but when running scripts that refer to $HOME, it seeks C:\cygwin\$HOME not C:\cygwin-lite\$HOME. So best to just install one of these Cygwins at a time, into C:\cygwin. Will update the thread if a workaround is found for simultaneous installation. My 9xweb script runs well in Cygwin-Lite but would need porting for Cygwin-Legacy's Bash release, maybe in the future if the older Wget fails. Will keep using Cygwin-Lite on this system for now. If a new Windows 98 system is set up, especially with a larger drive, will probably switch to Cygwin-Legacy. Thanks again. -

Hi loblo. Cygwin-Legacy perfect, that's a lot of bandwidth, thank-you very much for sharing! Downloaded it this morning and will store it on a USB stick as this system does not have adequate drive space. Will extract the files on the stick and start digging through it all. Thanks also for the consize link. Some of this stuff is very hard to find, buried deep in the bowels of the internet. -
K-Meleon TLS 1.2 in vanilla Windows 98 SE
Wunderbar98 replied to Wunderbar98's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Hi siria. You 'have some doubts if a "virgin KM" system is necessary'. To me testing on a non-virgin system is not definitive even if it works...lol. As mentioned, there are many posts on the forum that indicate things should work, often don't. Someone coming to this post fresh with a vanilla system should attempt the unzip only method first, then just update the thread, probably will work, it will be better confirmation. The K-Meleon loader was not installed or active, don't like these features. Figured out the issue creating program backups in the same Program Files directory, not a K-Meleon bug but a Windows Quick Launch "feature", personally a bug. A failed Quick Launch application shortcut automagically finds the "correct" executable, seems based on similar named directory with the most recent date stamp. This is the slippery slope where we let the AI take over :) For example, create a Quick Launch shortcut to Open Office, points to C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\soffice.exe. Rename the install directory to C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4DISABLE. Upon system reboot, the Quick Launch shortcut will no longer display the proper program icon. Click the Quick Launch shortcut anyway and Windows automatically searches for the program, finds the directory renamed DISABLE and auto updates the Quick Launch shortcut to C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4DISABLE. Profiling firefox.exe with Dependency Walker, nice program, flags GDI32.DLL and KERNEL32.DLL. This probably makes sense, stock Firefox v3.6 never ran in vanilla Windows 98, stopped at Firefox v2. Failed launch of firefox.exe from a command.com window or click gets an illegal operation popup, stack fault in module KERNEL32.DLL. Dependency Walker indicates the MSVCP71.dll and MSVCR71.dll files are okay. -

Wunderbar98 replied to Wunderbar98's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Hi siria. Well i don't know much about Windows DLLs and @roytam1 builds. The only ADVAPI32.DLL file on my system is in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Based on byte count and version it was unchanged from the formal K-Meleon installation. A quick check with regedit.exe does not reveal significant registry entries aside from installation directory pointers. Unzipped and quick checked official installer vs @roytam1's zip file, the zip file does not have: MSVCP71.DLL MSVCR71.DLL My vanilla install does not have either of these files in the Windows installation, only in the Open Office and K-Meleon installation directories. So my guess is @roytam1's *.7z should include these two files. Someone with a virgin K-Meleon vanilla system could test and provide feedback. Couple other noteworthy. Using the install method described many posts up, my profile directory is in the K-Meleon installation directory, although a new empty K-Meleon directory is created in C:\WINDOWS\Application Data every time the browser starts. Also renaming the directories below and rebooting still loads K-Meleon. To me this is crazy, it's looking for a directory that starts with K-Meleon, not strictly named ONLY K-Meleon. So when i create backups like this query whether it creates runtime instability. I'll start saving my backups somewhere else, not in Program Files. C:\Program Files\K-MeleonGOOD.b1_ORIG_B4FirstRun C:\Program Files\K-MeleonGOOD.b2_GoodTempDisable Browser still launches on reboot, even though there's no 'K-Meleon' only directory. This is sloppy, probably old bug long since fixed :( Edit: Don't know about Firefox v3.6, if you provide link i can check it out too. -

The Startpage search engine from the RetroZilla Search Engine Collection now requires changing the default User Agent to utilize, otherwise Startpage will not provide results. Use another search engine, such as DuckDuckGo-Lite, or the User Agent Switcher extension, available in the RetroZilla Extensions Collection. After installing the User Agent Switcher extension, restart browser and select the built-in Opera 9.2 user agent via Tools dropdown -> User Agent Switcher -> Opera 9.2 (Windows Vista). -

Thank-you loblo and siria for the feedback. Some day still hope to check out Cygwin 2003, my Enhanced Cygwin-Lite install only uses a command.com window and does not have a 'win95cmd' alternative, can just run Bash not DOS. Have been unable to find a Windows 98 compatible Rxvt download, seems just X11 (GNU/Linux), not sure. Guess command.com will never properly scroll. As siria mentioned, setting Properties -> Screen -> Initial size to 50 (options default, 25, 43, 50) provides a scrollbar. So there is a scrolling feature but it only goes back 50 lines! This also activates the greyed out 'Scroll' option in command.com window's DOS graphic (top left corner of title bar) -> Edit -> Scroll but it doesn't seem to do anything, just use the scroll bar on the side of the window i guess. Actually attempting to activate 'Scroll' sometimes causes the command.com window to hang when closing. Attempting to over-ride does not work either, the 'mode' command only accepts the predefined 25|43|50. mode con: cols=80 lines=50 -

Hi siria. Thanks again for feedback. Heck fun, most new (to me) software is exciting. My screen resolution is only 1152x864 on a 19" CRT, probably should have shrunk the screenshot. Don't mind no delete confirmation, i clear my privacy frequently, before/after logins, sometimes just switching domains, just want it gone. Thanks for the auto-clean tip, activated. One thing that impresses with old browsers, search about:config, especially 'http' filter, no calling home or a lot of background processes and extra "features". Disable JavaScript and you're pretty safe. May tweak my K-Meleon a bit but overall very happy. Will probably not post much more here, for now anyway, everything's working well. Removed the 'v' (version) from title. Not sure how this forum works, maybe a moderator could move this to member projects so it doesn't get as buried. For most a working browser is now the most important aspect of day to day computing. Nice for future visitors to have easier access to this information. Personally think some of these browser posts should be stickied. Won't hurt my feeling either way, just a thought. -

Using DOS and command.com lots, learning and sharing random tidbits, using Windows 98 SE. A command.com window can be opened by clicking Start -> Run or by pressing Windows key + r and entering either 'command' or 'command.com'. If a Windows Explorer window is open and active, the command.com window opens to Windows Explorer's current directory, otherwise probably C:\WINDOWS. Press Alt-Enter to toggle command.com fullscreen mode. If the command.com window opens without the toolbar, click on the DOS graphic in the top left corner of the title bar, or press Alt-spacebar, and enable the toolbar. From here is is also possible to modify properties. Cut/paste between the command.com window and other applications via system clipboard is done by selecting the DOS graphic -> Edit -> Mark|Copy|Paste (get in to 'mark' mode). If the toolbar is open this can also be performed by clicking 'Mark' (empty square button), mouse select text (multi-line works too) then 'Copy' from the toolbar. Now in system clipboard, paste into notepad/application. Similarly stuff can be pasted into the command.com window. The ability to mark and copy text from command.com can be permanently enabled via Properties -> Misc tab -> check QuickEdit. Personally i don't like this behaviour. Close and restart command.com to fully disable QuickEdit as desired. To enter a directory pathway into command.com just drag a folder from Windows Explorer into the command.com window. This won't actually move data, just auto-pastes the full directory pathway at the prompt. Properties -> Misc tab -> Exclusive mode locks out the mouse while working in the command.com window. If you don't like this behaviour alt-tab out of the command.com window, right-click 'MS-DOS Prompt' on the taskbar, select Properties and disable Exclusive mode. Already mentioned long time ago, adding 'doskey /insert' in AUTOEXEC.BAT is a must for enabling tab-autocomplete and up arrow for command history. If the doskey.com executable is not present in C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND it can be copied over from the Windows 98 CD (D:\tools\oldmsdos). When reviwing information that scrolls off screen, pipe the 'more' command, example 'dir c:\windows | more'. The pipe ( | ) character is Shift-\ keys. Press 'q' to exit 'more' as desired. The more command can be used as a lightweight document read-only, example 'more c:\windows\tips.txt'. Use built-in 'edit' if you want to edit a document or just want a full featured reader, example 'edit c:\windows\tips.txt'. Direct output commands to a file for viewing in an editor, example 'dir /w c:\windows\system > c:\windows\temp\my_system_files.txt'. To get to the root directory (eg. C:\ prompt) enter 'cd \'. To go up one directory 'cd..'. To go up two levels 'cd...', etc. Press Ctrl-c to kill what is running and get the DOS prompt back. For command and usage help, example 'mem /?'. If usage help scrolls off scren, then again use more, example 'dir /? | more'. Just learned the 'prompt' command, interesting, example 'prompt $d$t$l$p$g'. To review current environmental variables run 'set'. Press Enter key when running 'time' to quick check the time without changing the clock. DOS does not have a Unix-like 'touch' command to create a new file, just run 'edit new_filename.txt' then in edit select save and exit. To confirm windows version use 'ver'. Windows 98 SE comes with at least three file managers (DOS, explorer.exe, winfile.exe) and text editors (edit.com, notepad.exe, wordpad.exe). Something that's always bugged me is the lack of scrolling in command.com windows. From a command.com window's DOS graphic (top left corner of title bar) there is even an entry Edit -> Scroll but it's always greyed out. Anyone know if this can be activated and used? Feel free to share additional DOS and command.com tips. -

For those using vanilla Windows 98 it's nice to have choice. Not sure yet whether my preference is RetroZilla or K-Meleon, solid choices, will keep both installed. K-Meleon has more online resources with an active community. The RetroZillas are based on SeaMonkey v1.1.19 and Firefox v2.0.20, most of these online resources were left behind long time ago. K-Meleon is by default a pretty browser, screenshots if anyone is interested. http://kmeleonbrowser.org/shots.php Below is my custom text only toolbar browser showing the Privacy Bar and custom StyleKILL button. https://i.postimg.cc/MTmTW4SJ/K-Meleon-v1-5-4-Modified.png -

Thanks for the detailed reply siria, saved days of research but wasting too much of your time. Will review FAQ and wiki, lots of fun and learning. For anyone new like me, skins are easy to import, use what you want for a customization template. Button bitmaps are easy to modify even with Microsoft Paint. Hover text can be changed, etc. Maybe too hackable, agree maybe that's why the browser hasn't gone more mainstream in this plug and play era. http://kmeleonbrowser.org/wiki/K-MeleonThemes15 Temporarily switched to Phoenity(Large), a built-in skin, best icon set for me. Then decided on text only. Most won't want this, to me it's a functional and efficient interface. In the K-Meleon 'skins' directory, copied Klassic directory to KlassicHacked. Then commented out ( # ) all *.bmp entries in toolbars.cfg. Commenting out Privacy Bar bitmaps also made these text buttons larger. Instead of creating another toolbar, just added the StyleKILL button to the Privacy Bar, again via toolbars.cfg. Disabled the 'throbber' via preferences. Probably the plainest K-Melon of all time, pure awesome :) For a styleKILL keyboard binding added below to Edit -> Configuration -> Accelerators. Will probably modify to a two key command later. x = macros(stylekiller) Thus far the installation has been stable with one exception. Upon first using the browser was probably messing around with too many settings or critical Preferences -> K-Meleon Plugins. Whatever i did the browser crashed and would not restart. Fixed by deleting and auto-generating a new profile. This may, however, also have been due to creating a new profile on first launch of the regular K-Meleon install, then re-using this same profile after over-zipping @roytam1's files. To make the next install cleaner, will create a new profile after over-zipping the @roytam1 files. These are currently the only enabled K-Meleon Plugins: Netscape Bookmarks History K-Meleon JSBridge (query disable) Macro Extension Privacy Rebar Menu Toolbar Control Everything is good, time to back up the profile, thanks again siria. -

Custom YouTube search and YouTube Trending search are now fully 'polymer' compatible. Will work next on polymer video URL fetch then the whole script will be up to date. Fun headscratcher this evening, an experienced coder would have picked it up in a heartbeat. Couldn't figure out why the number of YouTube Trending titles wouldn't sometimes match the same number of video duration hits when parsing the file. 85 video hits, why only 82 durations? grep '^seconds\"}},\"simpleText\":\"' In hindsight the obvious answer is this: '^seconds\"}},\"simpleText\":\"' ... does not match this for one second (no plural) duration: '^second\"}},\"simpleText\":\"' Now we're golden! grep '^\"}},\"simpleText\":\"' The revised grep gets it right, no more skipped durations: "}},"simpleText":"4:01"}," -

K-Meleon Macro Library http://kmeleonbrowser.org/wiki/MacroLibrary StyleKiller macro download (3 KB, no JavaScript needed): http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?9,146712 From the Macro Library: In order to install a macro module, open Edit > Configuration > User-Defined Macros and create a new text file for the module you want to install. Copy the macro's code from the Wiki and paste it into this file. Save your changes, close your editor and rename the file according to the provided information (the file extension must be 'kmm'). The new module will be loaded when you've restarted K-Meleon. Installed macro modules can be enabled and disabled individually in Edit > Preferences > Macro Extension. Wunderbar98 note: The downloaded StyleKiller macro already comes as a *.kmm file, just drag and drop, restart browser. Toggle Tools -> Style Killer (Toggle CSS) as needed. Good stuff siria. Probably asking too much, can a keyboard shortcut be configured for this function (RetroZilla can't)? Can now properly use MSFN with my shiny new K-Meleon :) -

Wunderbar98 replied to Wunderbar98's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Thank-you for the tips siria. See some of your old K-Meleon posts >10 years ago, no wonder you know the browser inside/out. Old school, since uninstallers don't usually do a full job, after running the installer this system is no longer considered K-Meleon virgin. For an executable unzip only test i would use a fresh Windows 98 install, can't do right now, maybe someone else can comment. This forum has too many posts indicating just do this and this, which frequently does not work on a true vanilla installation. For me the method utilized was adequate. The formal installer is very nice and provides useful install time options. The system is getting old when half the software installs require helper software and/or keeping notes. Random responses. The privacy toolbar is good, activated. Still don't see how to get text only menu bar instead of small icons or even how to make the icons bigger for older eyes. The open middle-clicked links in background via Tools -> Mouse Accelerators -> Firefox good. Never would have thought to look there, couldn't find anything in preferences or about:config, was driving me crazy. The User Agent change is also necessary. The browser comes with useful pre-defined bookmarks for the K-Meleon forum and such, changed Tools -> User Agent -> SeaMonkey 1.1 and now it works. The 'CATCH' lack of View -> Page Style -> None is a REALLY big deal, couldn't get a visible link to log out of my MSFN forum session, in RetroZilla this makes all required navigation links visible. So for now back to posting from RetroZilla. Will search for 'macro StyleKiller' and test, more learning curve. Noticed the right-click button options, fun to explore although to me traditional mini-down arrows are more intuitive. -

Using the above install method, the resulting desktop, system tray and start menu shortcuts point to k-meleon.exe not k-meleonW9x.exe, used by Windows 98. This version sounds cool but it needs KernelEx with Windows 2000 compatability. Can't remember which forum member runs retrosystemsrevival, thank-you. Unfortunately downloads from the site via RetroZilla do not work. The site has a nice KernelEx tutorial YouTube video, may try it some day. Yes @siria, my next Windows 98 install may include KernelEx applications :) https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2018/05/k-meleon-74-windows-9x-edition.html Wanted to download official K-Meleon v1.5.4 from sourceforge[dot]net. Their site was temporarily down, returned but don't think they provide old releases here. https://sourceforge.net/projects/kmeleon/files/ Last working version of K-Meleon for vanilla Windows 98 appears to be v1.5.4. Got it from below via Internet Explorer v5 (not HTTPS site) but had to manually rename the download file (eg. k-meleon_v1.5.4.exe, 5.76 MB, no JavaScript needed). http://www.oldversion.com/windows/download/k-meleon-1-5-4 Installed into system. Browser first run good but couldn't even load ssllabs[dot]com for checking. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html Notice the formal install has MSVCR71.DLL, this is good. Over-zipped @roytam1's K-Meleon1.5.4en-US.tls12.7z release in to the installation directory (C:\Program Files\K-Meleon). Now clicking the k-meleonW9x.exe executable launches the browser fine and the ssllabs[dot]com site indicates TLS v1.2. Very good, the RetroZilla Community Edition thread will be updated appropriately, one of the "only" browsers that supports TLS v1.2 in vanilla Windows 98. Will have some fun with K-Meleon, overall a slick and lightweight browser. Changing the default skin from Phoenity to Klassic is nice. Not sure yet if the menu bars can be changed to text only instead of icons, minor. This browser almost has too many configurable options. Similar to recent discussion on the RetroZilla Community Edition thread, this browser can also be set up from a fresh Windows 98 installation using only Internet Explorer v5 to get the HTTP only downloads. http://www.oldversion.com/windows/k-meleon-1-5-4 http://o.rthost.win/gpc/files1.rt/K-Meleon1.5.4en-US.tls12.7z http://netcologne.dl.sourceforge.net/project/sevenzip/7-Zip/9.20/7z920.exe 1. Are RetroZilla and K-Meleon the only TLS v1.2 capable browsers for vanilla Windows 98 SE? [posted via K-Meleon] -
Trying to get a TLS v1.2 K-Meleon running on vanilla Windows 98 SE. Trialed the newest and oldest releases from https://o.rths.ml/kmeleon/ (KM-Goanna-20171215 and KM76.2.1-Goanna-20200725) and both reportedly require a newer version of Windows when attempting to launch the executable. Next trialed K-Meleon1.5.4en-US.tls12.7z from: http://o.rths.ml/gpc/files1.rt/K-Meleon1.5.4en-US.tls12.7z Unzipping and executing k-meleon.exe or k-meleonW9x.exe result in an MSVCR71.DLL not found error. This file does not exist in the Windows 98 SE operating system but there is a same-named file in the Open Office v2.4 installation directory. MSVCR71.DLL Microsoft Corporation Microsoft C Runtime Library Microsoft Visual Studio .NET version 7.10.3052.4 348,160 bytes Copied MSVCR71.DLL into both C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and the unzipped K-Meleon root directory, rebooted. Now clicking k-meleon9x.exe results in an illegal operation error, invalid page fault. Clicking k-meleon.exe indicates k-meleon.exe is linked to missing export ADVAPI32.DLL, CreateRestrictedToken. This file is present in vanilla Windows 98 SE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. AVAPI32.DLL Microsoft Corporation version 4.80.1675 65,536 bytes Copying AVAPI32.DLL into the unzipped K-Meleon root directory. Clicking k-meleon.exe results in the same missing export ADVAPI32.DLL error. Assistance appreciated, is this the correct version of K-Meleon to test? Are the DLL files not properly recognized? Does a Windows 98 SE friendly K-Meleon need to be installed first, then over-zip the @roytam1 release? Does it just not work on a vanilla system?

Old school HTTP only multimedia fun in default Internet Explorer 5. The homepage is HTTP only and loads fine. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/ Today there's a link for 'Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy & More Preview'. Load this video page in Internet Explorer. Of course it won't autoplay, it isn't 1999 anymore. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/video/entertainment/kermit-the-frog-miss-piggy-more-preview-muppets-now/vi-BB17nrmv In Internet Explorer with the video page loaded, select View dropdown -> Source. The 'HTML source' opens in Notepad or asks to open in WordPad if too large. Perform a Notepad / WordPad search for 'mp4', cycle through the entries. My hardware isn't great so i use the *.mp4 entry that ends in '_650.mp4'. Copy and paste this HTTPS URL into Internet Explorer. Manually change 'https' to 'http' and press Enter. Download and enjoy the video. Change HTTPS: https://wus-streaming-video-msn-com.akamaized.net/26d41034-c9c5-48f7-83a1-39b37843e064/b920faa3-a0ae-42c9-94e1-6b0483d6_650.mp4 To HTTP: http://wus-streaming-video-msn-com.akamaized.net/26d41034-c9c5-48f7-83a1-39b37843e064/b920faa3-a0ae-42c9-94e1-6b0483d6_650.mp4 For a long list of videos, click the video you want from here to get the source page, change 'en-ca' region code as desired. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/video Of course this might not work for all MSN videos, depending on the source, what the heck. Some MSN video functionality may eventually get coded in the 9xweb script. -

The first post was edited to reflect new information provided by siria, thank-you. This should solve the chicken vs egg problem for some systems. Note MSFN does not load in Windows 98 SE's default Internet Explorer v5, not sure about Internet Explorer v6. So some users will still need another computer, even just at work or public library, to read the good information available here. Interesting side note, Microsoft still maintains some HTTP sites. Below is my Internet Explorer v5 homepage (from my homeland), useful to read latest news. Believe it or not the links on this page are HTTP, you can actually read the articles! Darn HTTPS, often purposeful but a real thorn in the side. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/ -

Hi siria. Very back door, problem solved, thank-you. A vanilla Windows 98 system using just Internet Explorer 5 can now use HTTP only sites to get 7-Zip and a working @roytam1 TLS v1.2 compliant browser, good stuff. Too bad my double-vanilla system isn't hooked up, not even Windows updates installed, that would be the best confirmation. So for anyone with a fresh Windows 98 install with working internet connection, the two links below is all you need to get started. AFAIK this RetroZilla build already has all of the required TLS modifications built-in, so disregard the 'TLS Tweaks' section on the first post of this thread. As this RetroZilla download does not have a formal installer, just unzip into desired directory and create a desktop or task bar shortcut to the executable. If no RetroZilla profile exists a new one will be created upon first launch. 7-Zip (direct download, no JavaScript needed): http://netcologne.dl.sourceforge.net/project/sevenzip/7-Zip/9.20/7z920.exe RetroZilla (direct download, no JavaScript needed): http://o.rths.ml/gpc/files1.rt/retrozilla-suite-tls12-20200131.7z I will update the first post in the next couple/few days, used up my forum time today. Up to you regarding a K-Meleon discussion, existing thread or start new. I would like to give it another shot on my vanilla system and see if we can't make it go. A previous K-Meleon version i trialed appeared full featured and configurable, just didn't connect to most HTTPS.
