Right, I've decided to get rid of my current machine (AMD 2000+ 1.66ghz, 512DDR, GeForce 128DDR MX440, Soundblaster 5.1, 40GB etc.) and build a new one. Not sure where to start though - my budget's £1,000-£3,000 and I want to use the new machine for music production primarily although I want to use it for everything - watching TV/Cable playing my music etc. I won't be playing games, but I want a decent graphics card for good TV playback. I also want a card that offers dual monitor support and i'll need a fast hd too. Here's what I've got down so far: Graphics - HIS Radeon 9800XT 256MB Platinum Sound - Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro M/Board - ASUS K8V Deluxe Processor - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2Ghz Storage - 2 x 120GB SATA Memory - 1GB DDR would this setup be ok and does any1 have suggestions about specific storage / memory makes/types and better processor / board types etc? Ok, so I slimmed my xp down to 180mb, but now I've realised I need the volume control (sndvol32.exe) that I removed I've found the relevent files on my original xp cd and all I need to know is what program do I use to expand the compressed files from my cd (sndvol32.ex_, sndvol32.hl_, etc) thanks

I use "startup control panel" - better than using msconfig It's a control panel extension that shows you whats starting up in each of your section, HKLM, HKCU etc. pretty good, go to www.mlin.net to dl it

Hey guys, is it possible to replace media player 8 for media player 9 and messenger 4.7 for msn6. As in replace them on your xp cd so that it automatically installs them instead of the originals? (probably doesnt make sense lol)

is it worth using the administraion kit to customise my Internet Explorer settings, etc. and then adding them to an unattended cd? and can it be done?

I've nearly got my disc fully automated, but there's one thing that still prompts for user input: the MDAC Security hotfix (Q823718_MDAC_SecurityPatch.exe) this is how it looks in my main_batch file: ECHO Installing MDAC Security Hotfix ECHO Please Wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\install\hotfixes2\Q823718_MDAC_SecurityPatch.exe /Q:A /R:N any suggestions to prevent it from prompting before installing and also asking if i want to restart? thanks Lee

I did it this way and it works fine! I never thought to open the executable in winRAR cheers

I used to have it (installed along with .net 1.0 - dunno if thats healthy lol) but didnt realise there was such a great difference between 1.0 and 1.1! I will deffo look into downloading it, thanks

could anybody help me please? I need to know the switch to silently install Startup Control Panel 2.8 not sure what type of installer it uses. It starts with a box saying Press "install" to begin. with two buttons on the right "install" "cancel" when you install 2 boxes come up "finish" and "info" any ideas what installer this is? thanks

I'm only on Dial-up and didnt think it was worth downloading 1.1 if I already had 1.0 on my XP cd. Its not an msi either, it's an exe - "Suite Integration Toolkit Executable" I found this line in the "XPSD.ini" file included in the framework folder gfn_pid core post reboot=0 do you think that if I change the 0 to a 1 this would solve the problem? thanks

hi all - just have one problem... when installing .net framework, the setup has to restart and continues upon reboot. is there anyway to prevent this, or anyway to automatically restart my batch file when framework installation is complete? cheers lee

I'm using Nero 5.5 and would like to know which files/directories i need to copy from the Nero cd to my unattend cd so i can install the basic Nero files + cover designer

how do i know where abouts on my nVidia driver disc the drivers for my graphics card are? there are about 6 directories in the drivers directory all named 64187 and similar - how do i know which one of these contains the appropriate drivers?

it is integrated as ive just tested an unattended install and it worked

Just reading about slipstreaming XP & SP1 - I presume my XP cd already has SP1 integrated as in the general tab of My Computer i have: System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1
