  1. Yeah, it came with the 4-in-1 via drivers, which I have installed. I have uninstalled it no w, just gotta reboot and see what happens...
  2. yeah, that's what I did (sorry, should have been more clearer!) and it's not there. I dunno then
  3. When I right-click my IDE channel in Device manager there is no "Advance Settings" tab to change the transfer modes (DMA/PIO). does anybody know why this is? Here's my setup: Asus K8V SE Deluxe AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @2.2Ghz 1024MB Corsair Value Select RAM Sapphire Radeon 9800XT Audigy ZS 2 Platinum Pro Western Digital Caviar SE 200GB (SATA connected) Sony DoubleLayer DRU-700A DVD-R (Second IDE Channel, Primary Device) The only reason I need to know is because Nero hangs when I try to burn to DVD-R and I think I need to change from DMA to PIO mode. If anybody knows how to do it via motherboard settings I'm all ears Thanks

  5. I am about to sell my old(ish) PC, but I may have a slight problem. The PC came with an OEM version of XP Home Edition preinstalled along with an XP Home CD. A while back, whilst reinstalling from this disc, the disc "exploded" in the drive (God knows how, or why! ) luckily, I had made a backup, but I'm sure any potential buyers would, as I would be, be a little suspicious of a copied XP disc being supplied with my computer. to the point... who would I contact to obtain a replacement disc? Microsoft, or the PC manufactuer (in this case Targa Visionary)? and do they actually supply replacement CD's? Thanks for any help Lee
  6. Hi all, suppose, theoretically that somebody deleted the contents of their windows/inf folder, how would said person go about restoring it? thank
  7. My BIOS is up to date, I forgot to check reported speed on startup but directx diagnostic reports 2.2ghz I'm gonna guess its either cool n quiet or dodgy registry tweaks I will let you know
  8. Hi there, I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and the reported speed in system properties is now 990Mhz (it should report 2.02Ghz). Does anybody have any idea why this would be? would it be because I have Cool 'n Quiet enabled? I don't overclock my machine so I haven't touched any bios settings. I have, however, been applying registry tweaks like there's no tomorrow! Would an errornous reg tweak be behind this? Cheers Lee
  9. yeah, i think you do need the " ". not sure about the last \. I put one at the end of mine though and it worked.
  10. You add this under [GuiUnattended] in your winnt.sif I believe: ProfilesDir="D:\Documents and Settings\"
  11. I just typed "remove My eBooks folder" into google and it was the first link that came up: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/myebooks.htm you couldn't have looked that hard! Just messin!
  12. OK, just found this. May be of some use to anybody else having similar problems and didn't know the cause
  13. Interesting... I'm guessing there is some feature in Version 6 that restores the folder each time then, as it never used to come back with 5 Thanks for the info
  14. Hey hey Soon after I have installed XP a new folder always seems to appear in "My Documents" called "My eBooks". Normally I just delete it and it's gone forever! But, on this fresh install, for some reason it's reappearing when I delete it. What I want to know is; How do I stop it coming back, why is it coming back this time and where does it come from in the first place? Thanks in advance Lee
  15. *bump* basically since integrating raid drivers (using RyanVM(?)'s driver pack) into my unattended install my winnt.sif is not being read by windows. This is XP Pro with SP1a and no other drivers or programs are being silently installed - just windows. It worked fine with SP2 (2138) Any Ideas? thank you
  16. This is really bugging me now! PLEASE HELP I have just integrated the raid drivers into my unattended install (XP Pro & SP1) but when I boot from the CD, setup seems to ignore my winnt.sif settings It must be reading it, though, to get the paths of the RAID drivers (in $OEM$ folder) from the driverpath entry in winnt.sif It worked fine for several unattended installs with sp2 slipstreamed but ive reverted back to sp1 and it isnt working I would post my winnt.sif, but I'm on a different machine that doesnt have cd-rom. the only changes i've made are to specify paths for program files and documents and settings - and I have placed them in the correct sections of winnt.sif Please help
  17. haha i spose I am being picky I was jsut wondering why sometimes they are displayed under BOTH 'network adapters' AND 'ieee1394 controllers' and sometimes just under 'ieee1394 controllers'
  18. In device manager my firewire adapters are displayed under the "network devices" tab as well as under the "IEEE 1394 bus host controllers" tab. how do you prevent them from being displayed under the network tab? I know you can do it because on a fresh install not so long ago they didn't appear under I probably aren't making sense, but I know what I'm on about
  19. I also get this problem (on some installs) - but I used to get it on sp1 too
  20. OK, I just figured out I do need a different uxtheme and have now downloaded the correct version for the build of SP2 I'm using. However, how do I now replace the existing uxtheme in my system32 folder, as it's in use
  21. I've just finished my first service pack 2 slipstreamed unattended. Everything's gone smoothly, apart from one thing - themes will not work, even the default Luna theme. I receive the following error when I attempt to load a theme: Error Loading Visual Styles: The visual styles could not be loaded because the file failed to load. I used the modified Uxtheme.dl_ but now I receive this error. Do you need a different uxtheme.dl_ for service pack 2? Thanks
  22. I've resolved the problem myself I found the RAID Drivers topic, started by RyanVM (Many Thanks!), in the Unattended XP / Drivers section and integrated these into my XP setup. That resolved the problem Thanks anyway
  23. I have just purchased a 200GB SATA Western Digital Caviar HD and wanted to do a fresh install of XP onto it. I have an onboard VIA RAID controller (on ASUS K8v SE Deluxe m/board) I created a floppy disc containing drivers with the VIA Make Disc utility. then i turned off computer, installed new hard disc and enabled sata control in my bios. i then put my xp cd in & booted up, pressed f6 to install 3rd party driver and managed to install ok. Windows detected hard drive succesfully and i proceeded to create partitions. i then chose the partition and windows copied files from the cd to hd as usual. I then got a message saying windows couldn't copy files from the cd because they were missing and asked if i wanted to skip them or abort. The 3 files in question were the files located on the floppy disc (viasraid.cat, viasraid & viasraid.inf) so i skipped as they were obviously not going to be on the cd. setup finished copying files over and restarted. the xp pro screen came up (the one that comes up when windows is loading) and then i got a bluescreen with the error 0x0000007B (0xF7C7A640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I rebooted 3 more times with same error. I'm guessing this is because setup didn't copy over the 3 files it said were missing, which were infact on the floppy. Is there anyway to copy the files manually onto the hd, and whereabouts would i put them? Thanks in advance
  24. Thanks for all the advice! I lowered my budget to a more realistic price for me and i bought some components over the last week. So far my setup looks like this: Antec P160 Case Jeantec 450W PSU ASUS K8V SE Deluxe M/board AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 1GB of Corsair PC32000 Memory Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9800XT Pro (Decided I wanted to play games !!) Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum Pro ZS (I'm a sucker for all the fancy connections) I'm still using my old Samsung DVD/CdR Combo and my old 40GB Hard Drive, which I'll be upgrading next pay day!
  25. I have just finished another unattended install, this time using the slimmed down (180MB) xp. I have these empty folders in Program Files and would like to remove them. xerox windows nt windows media player outlook express netmeeting msn gaming zone movie maker microsoft frontpage ComPlus Applications I've tried deleting but they are "In Use" apparently, even though they are empty! I also booted in Safe Mode and deleted them, but when I restarted they had been restored. Does anybody no how to remove these annoyances? I'm pretty sure I've seen a thread or two about this but can't seem to find them. Thanks Lee
