  1. Forgot to thank you for your reply. I'm still looking for suggestions. Keep 'em coming :-) -Nerevar
  2. Hi! I need some help with some basic configuration on a Enterprise Edition ISA Server 2006. It's running on a 2k3 R2 box (if it is neccesary to know, probably not). For starters, I need to allow IIS(PHP and SQL Server 2008 Developers edition), and browser access (Opera.exe, and sadly IE for updates and activation). The IIS only need to be on the Internal network (192.168.1.*). As for browser access, both internal and external. Also, please note that the Enterprise Edition is very different from the standard one you find the most tutorials for on the web... :-( Thanks in advance!!! -Nerevar
  3. I haven't played around with it much yet, but you could use AutoIt... I've seen lots of examples around (I also have some on my laptop but I'm to lazy to turn it on). Google is your best friend :-) Best Regards -Nerevar
  4. Hi all! I'm setting up a windows 2003 Enterprise R2 Server at home (for learning purposes) and I'm looking for some recommendations for software to install. I also access to the ISA 2006 Server, Forefront, Security Center (all products) from the MSDNAA (hey, I'm a student at the university :-) ). I believe that the ISA server works as a firewall, so I believe that it has to be installed. Currently I am going to install ISA server 2006, and wonder about the "rest", as following: Forefront (client security & server security management console, what does theese cover (in short), any conflicts caused by it?) Security center suite (needed? what areas do it cover?) Antivirus for server, any recommendations (if the above does not cover this area good)? Currently looking for free AV SSL (open ssl?, other alternatives)? Others? (except for sql-server and php, which is going to be installed later today or something) Also, don't worry about me biting over too much at the same time, it's a habit of mine:-P Any replies is very welcome, but please keep it civilized as some parts of this, I believe often start flaming wars. Also, no "i'm wondering about the same", bumping etc... I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes, but I'm usually just rambling when I type :-) Thanks!! -Nerevar Edit: Forgot to note free antivirus....
  5. I've been playing around with some web "programming" languages and put up a framework for a learning website. Problem is that I cannot seem to lock the framework, while enable scrolling in the frames of my choise. I don't use the old broken html frameset though :-) What I want is to lock the banner, and the rest of the "frameset" while enabling scrolling in the menu and the main sections while only scrolling in its own frame (scrollin in the menu for itself and scrolling in the mainframe for itself)... Thanks for paying me some attention!! Some of the code (only the part I think is neccesary): From the index file <div id="page"> <div id="banner"> <h1>Welcome</h1> </div> <table id="inner"> <tr> <td id="menu"> <?php include("Menu.php"); ?> </td> <td> <div id="main"> <?php include("Mainframe.php"); ?> From the style.css file (perhaps it's not needed): #page { /*margin: 0 auto;*/ margin-top: 0px; margin-left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: relative; z-index: 3; } #banner { text-align: center; border: 1px transparent; padding: 40px; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; } #menu { width: 120px; padding: 10px; } #main { overflow: auto; height: 600px; padding: 10px; } #inner { width: 100%; border: 1px transparent; margin-top: 2px; } Edit: Used spoiler tags instead of codeboxes. Sorry
  6. I'll have to play around with it in a few days. I'm a little short of time (stuff to do in real life actually :-/). Happy weekend everybody (it's actually a few days of here in Norway, from the first of may to the fourth of may (2-4 is not normal holidays but it's around the weekend so we're getting a couple of extra days of vaccation :-) -Nerevar
  7. My plan was to have just one style sheet over the whole page, and I'm using frames on it. Then i could just make a javascript for using css on all subpages and put it in the index file, right? -Nerevar
  8. I'm just curious about one thing, is there any possibility of linking a css file to the whole page (html-files, php-files etc) without adding the "<link rel="StyleSheet" href="style.css" Title="Stylesheet for my site" TYPE="text/css"> tag? I've been reading around for a few days and I can't seem to find anything. I'm looking forward to any eventual replies :-) Best Regards -Nerevar
  9. No, two 8800's in SLI with an Intel chipset is a no-no. A single 8800 will run just fine on an Intel chipset. If you want to run SLI and want an Intel CPU then you'll have to look at a motherboard with an NVIDIA chipset (their current chipset is the 680i but I don't think it supports the CPU you're looking at...however, the 780i should be released soon). Sorry, I see now that I didn't write what I mean't to write. Thanks for your clarification :-) Missed the SLI part :-( All new x86 CPUs (save the current Celeron's) are x64 capable. That doesn't mean you have to run a 64-bit OS, it just means that you can. You'll be able to run 32-bit Windows, Linux or any other 32-bit x86 OS just fine on those CPUs.I didn't say I wanted advice on OS :-) Why should I pick a 9650 instead of a 6850? @ Fivestar: I read about it on the page you refered to, but still I didn't catch a difference between the 9650 and 6850 This depends on whether you want speed or redundancy. RAID0 is faster, RAID1 offers more data protection. If you want the best of both worlds get 4x500GB drives and setup RAID10. Sounds like a good idea, I'll keep it in mind. Weak power supplies can indeed cause some issues, but 1K W is overkill. I have a Dual Xeon 3.06GHz setup (the very power hungry Xeon's) with 6GB RAM (6x1GB DIMMs), two PCI-X RAID controllers, a 6800XT AGP video card, onboard GigE NIC, six hard drives (used to be eight), a SCSI CD-ROM drive and a SCSI tape backup...all running off of a 680W PSU.I've tried this power supply calculator and I arrived at ~850, adding the power useage of the ageia card afterwards. I also added a few fans (4) to get it to something that sounds resonable. @ fivestar: I'm currently looking into that case, seems interesting. However, I'm having problems with finding a dealer/post order in the country at the moment. I appreciate your effort though.
  10. So far this is what I've picked up: 8800 with an intel Chipset is a no-no (or CPU except when you get a NVidia 680i chipset on your motherboard) You're suggesting a X64 cpu, I'm still falling towards a x86 because I'm playing a bunch of old games and using some older programs that don't work on x64 (tested on 3 machines, both vista and xp) 2x500gb raid0 disks instead of a 1 tb I checked up for about 5 mins on raid types to get the general idea, and raid1 sounds better. Some other things I know. You get the weirdest errors from a weak power supply. I forgot to mention but i'm planning to add some additional disks in the near future (I'm just too good at using space, especcially because I usually save my in-between work files (which have a tendancy to become quite large)). I'm sorry for that and I really appreciate you guys spending (wasting?) your time on me :-) Also, I suck at backups (Not that it is hard to do, I'm just way to lazy) I'll be checking back in approx. 20 hours :-) Looking foreward to it Best Regards -Nerevar
  11. I've got one of theese I've only been messing around with it but you can do alot of stuff with it! Check out this webpage Edit: Please note that this is without the external USB harddisc. Also be sure to read throughly through the aforementioned site before installing any unofficial firmwere, linksys mentioned they like the projects, but don't give official support for it. Best Rehards Nerevar
  12. I'm going to build my own computer soon and I've been looking around for stuff to put in it. This is my plan so far: CPU Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 3GHz 1333Mhz Socket LGA775, 8MB, BOXED w/fan RAM Corsair Dominator TWIN3X 1800MHz DDR3, 2GB, DHX, XMP(Intel Extreme) Motherboard Asus P5E3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP X38 DDR3 775 GPU (Graphics) XFX Nvidia Geforce 8800 ultra (Want SLI but I don't know if I'll get the space for it) Soundcard Creative SB X-Fi Elite Pro PCI,64MB,116dB SNR, I/O, 3DMIDI, EAX PPU Asus Ageia Physx HDD Seagate Barracuda 1 TB PSU Mist 1000 Watt I've not decided yet on the budget. So far it's approx 4700$ if you convert it to the local currency. I also haven't decided on the case yet (nor cooling, as it'll have to wait and see what I can get in the case). I'll be going for WinXP (32 bit) and I'll be using it for gaming (planning to pick up crysis in february/march or something like that), video editing. I'm also planning to add another 2 blocks of memory afterwards, but I'd rather wait a little with the last ones as I'd rather complete my rig than wait another month due to buying memory early. Also, could someone go over the ports/power supply cables and see if it is enough for my little rig? I'm such a mess when it comes to stuff life that Wishlist: Be able to put in another 8800, if I have to make it at the cost of another expansion card, what would you suggest? Is SLI possible with this setup? (that's what it's called when you translate it from my language directly to english, hope it's correct :-) ) Need a CD/DVD burner, anyone to reccommend? Recommendation on a case with good space, must have a fairly big "window" on the side. Water cooling for the CPU? I've heard that it gets quite warm Thanks alot for your time! :-) Best Regards -Nerevar
  13. Can't delete. Think it's Puper, or pepop according to symantec :-) Best Regards -Nerevar
  14. Got spybot, adaware and microsoft for anti spyware. Installing SP2 at the moment. F5 for safe mode, right? Best Regards -Nerevar
  15. I got this **** annoying thing constantly spamming me and reviving itself when i use the task manager and/or hijackthis to kill the process. Any ideas about how to block it from even starting? Best Regards -Nerevar
  16. Think it may be a trojan or something. Snuck into my system. Anyone who knows how to remove that little pest? Tried spybot, ad-aware, ms antispyware, and a little hijackthis. I don't have any idea about what it is called. Only thing is that it says Virus Alert! and a popup with critical system error and get some malware and antivirus protection. Also got some trojan as shown in picture annoyance3, it says download adware punisher. Ticks me off, any idea about how to remove it? Best Regards -Nerevar images.zip
  17. Still no results on my own, anyone got some ideas? It's still the getting into the redboot thingy. Best Regards Nerevar
  18. Welcome :-) Always nice to see new people. As for an effective SO setup, what exactly are you talking about? Or maybe you've already made a thread in the OS forum? Best Regards -Nerevar
  19. Ooh, was afraid for that you'd forgot this thread completly :-) I got an .exe file from a classmate of mine this morning, he compiled a perl script for me. I'm going to test it later today. Laters, Nerevar
  20. Mine got a Maxtor OneTouch 200gig. Got it with 50% discount :-) Best Regards -Nerevar
  21. Not formating it correctly? I suppose you formated it through the NSLU2 box. Since, if you try to do it on your computer it will be formated with the wrong file system and you can't use it. Later, Nerevar
  22. Not much, 10-20 min i think. Got a 200gig drive on it though. But a 2.0 USB helps quite a bit compared to the older ones. Best Regards -Nerevar
  23. I'm not sure if you can manage to do all that with it but you should manage to get most of it working. To install some of the unofficial packages you need a serial port on it, or at least so it seems. As for the external drive, an usb flash drive is enough :-) It depends on what you're going to use it for. Personally i'll be using it for backup, and i got a 200gig disk on it :-) Looking foreward to hearing from you gamehad200 :-) Best Regards -Marius
  24. Hi guys! I recently got my hands on this beauty, clicky! I've become a little bit confident about how to configure it now after a while. I'm having some problems with getting it to share things the way i'd like to. Anyone got some ideas about how to get it to meet theese requirements for set-up? * Sharing folders for a larger group of users who each have their own username and password * Both private folders and shared folders for each user * Each user has one or more folders that he administers, and some of them can be read by others while the others can not * The admin has access to all the folders (basic, isen't it?) * Admin can only be logged on from the local network (preferably, but not neccecary) * Can be accessed from other places than the local network (like school, friends, work and so on). Preferably using a DNS, ex: www.msfn.org * Each user can make sub folders in their folder without any problems, and set rights for thoose folders, except for rights for the admin, as he will have a default rights as all rights * Preferably navigated through as a Window's folder system (like \\someweirdpcname with lots of subfolders and files * Can be accessed even through proxy servers (dad might like to show pictures from a vaccation etc. while he is at work (he has lots of good associates(sp?) )) Also, you might want to check out NSLU2 Linux! (a bit slow though). It's a server running on the same box as i am trying to set up. I can install that unofficial software on it, as long as i don't need a serial port (you need it for one or two of them, i don't feel like adding one, besides i don't have any experience with it either). Best Regards Nerevar
