  1. Your right it is very frustrating and not user friendly when comparing to Windows 7. but slowly i am getting better... i only get around 1 and half hours on it a day, cause i work full time and have a family. i stopped using Windows 98 back in 2002, i was only a teenager and didnt know much besides format install drivers, play games. i just installed the drivers and its great so far, now i can save alot of time instead of burning slow a** DVD-RW.
  2. OK Thanks, Sorry about that must have mist it. I usually always check the pinned and search before creating a thread. i have gained alot of info, while building my P4 Win98 machine.
  3. Hey Guys; I keep getting this error when running 3D mark 2001. 3DMark could not initialize your 3d accelerator try to downgrade your display settings. 5. Hey Guys; Does anyone know a good quality PS2 Controller adapter for Windows 98 that preferably supports Vibration function. i have seen some random $3 ones on ebay, but dont know if they would working with Windows98SE. i have also seen this one Mayflash Super Joy Box 5 Pro, which claims it has Windows98 support. http://www.mayflash.com/Products/PCUSB/PC039.html
  6. The 6800 GS i have is a 512mb do you think it will work?
  7. @rloew I recently purchased a bundle of AGP cards among the pack was a Geforce 6800GS 512MB, when i tried to install the official forceware drivers it said no Nvidia Card detected. That's exatcly what happened when I tried installing a 7600gt 512mb with the unofficial drivers.
  8. If there's anything else, just post it in this thread and we'll do our best to help! ok thanks
  9. Long shot... Do you have "Enable Legacy USB Support" (paraphrase) in the BIOS? For PS/2 you want that off as it only applies for USB Keyboard/Mouse attached. That same thing will bite you for any OS, especially swicthing from PS/2 to USB in XP (also will drive you nuts) and you have to do some stunts to get it to find the drivers (via SAFE Mode, AFAICR). HTH Thanks alot for your help, i gave up and re-formatted again, cause it was driving me crazy. everything is working now
  10. Monitor is irrelevant. Tied thru the VGA (relevant). Older nVidia work fine (this one is Geforce4). Did you install the Chipset Drivers first? ALWAYS install them the very first thing before any other drivers! http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1845#sp Yes the first thing i did was install the chipset drivers when i was prompted to restart my keyboard and mouse froze, and i had no choice but to force restart from the case. Iam using PS/2 Mouse and K/B
  11. 12. Hey guys, I am having heaps on issues getting Windows 98 up and running properly. The issue I am facing now is that the system.won't shutdown or restart in ms Dos, it restarts the entire machine. I recently formated the machine because I had an issue were the computer stopped shutdown or restarting in just hang on "Windows is now restarting" I still haven't installed the onboard VGA card and monitor because I wanted to make a clone of the HDD before installing my sound card and Video card. Can someone please explain why I am having these shutdown issues My system Gigabyte GA-8I865GM-775 512mb RAM 120gb HDD
  13. I don't think so the only difference I can think of is the quality of the picture. By I think from graphics cards from Geforce 9000 till current, the will be no difference in HD movie play back.
  14. The 6800 Ultra 256MB is the last card officially supported under 9x by nVidia. However it may or may not also suffer from the same shutdown bug as the 7xxx cards, I don't know. Technically, the 7800GS WAS officailly supported, because BFG provided a 9x driver for it (82.16). So long as you keep the RAM under 256MB the 7xxx cards only have the shutdown bug, which is fixed by a free patch. The ATI cards I named have drivers in the last official ATI package, although ATI only claims support up to the 9800 XT. Ok thank you so much, do u know where i can find the shutdown patch from?
  15. Do you know of any issues with the 6000 series geforces I really dont want to deal with patches or unofficial drivers. So far my entire build supports Windows 98 natively. from chipset, usb to lan I am more interested in something compatible with little issues.
  16. Hey Guys; i know there is alot of topics about this subject, but i noticed non of them cover the importance of compatibility, and the RAM limit of the video card that Windows 98 Supports. So recently purchased a Geforce 7600GT 512mb AGP for my Win98 PC. and was disappointed to find out that the Unofficial NVIDIA Display Driver 82.69 does detected my card, i tried manually installing but i was getting heaps of issues after black screen, not booting, restart issues etc. The only solution is to pay $21 for a bios fix from leow, but to be honest I would rather just get a Video card that has native support for Windows98 and 100% compatible with 0 Issues. Maybe if i had a high end card like the 7900 i would purchase it. Right now i am using my onboard graphics "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" and having no isses. So can someone please recommend me a card for Windows98 that has native support and 100% compatible.
  17. I eventually found it, but I am having alot of issues. The exe doesn't work, it says there is no nvidia card detected. When I try manually installation I having alot of errors. When restarting my system stays on a black screen, and the only way to get back in is with a hard reset. I got a 512mb version, does anyone have any experience in this issue?
