  1. Windows XP works nearly perfectly! Is there a way I can fix annoying rendering errors and momentary lag? For example, when I switch tabs, a bunch of glitched squares of the previous window/tab appear until the page has a second to load be interacted with. Textures can be missing for a moment...

I might try upgrading to Vista or 7 and see if that fixes anything. Being stuck on DirectX 9 is a bit of a drag when playing PCSX2.

  2. Woo-hoo! My 23-q127c works perfectly with Windows XP, thanks to Damnation's custom mods! But I still have one tiny question..
Windows XP over Windows 10 any day!!!
    BwNCbNV.png

Will the lack of ACPI driver here potentially cause damages to the pc overtime? Just double checking!

It's really odd my 2013 haswell computer (Dell) can't run Windows XP, but my 2015 (HP) one can...

I think it's best to start XP setup again from scratch

    I would suggest using Easy2Boot

    http://www.easy2boot.com/download/

I assume you have a spare USB drive to use

put my XP ISO with ACPI patched in _ISO\WINDOWS\XP

Yikes, this program doesn't appear too user-friendly. Maybe it's just my eyes at 12AM being overwhelmed by the amount of instructions. I'll try looking at a youtube tutorial tomorrow and attempt this.

    Thank you for your time.

Edit: I can also conform that the installations I made are not faulty. Ironically, my HP Pavilion 23-q127c will install just fine using the same usb installation...my AIO (Inspiron 20 3043) that refused to boot was a Haswell I believe. Ironically, my 23-q127c is about two years newer yet installs ACPI just fine...hmmm...

Perhaps I'll dual-boot Windows 10/7/xp on my other desktop.

Edit 2: Okay, it installed on my other desktop then gave me the BSoD error...it claims it's not ACPI compliant...unlike the Dell Inspiron, my main desktop installed XP without a problem...hmmm

I gotta use my laptop for now until I repair this.

Edit 3: Okay, it seems the modified ACPI.sys allowed Windows XP to install on my 23-q127c, but does not prevent ACPI BSoD upon boot. A stock Windows XP w/ SATA/ACHI drivers won't even give me the option to format the disk or install. I might try using Windows 7 and see if that changes anything.

I'm thinking you might not be integrating into your XP install ISO correctly

are you replacing acpi.sy_ in the \I386 folder, rebuilding ISO with nlite, then starting setup?

Windows XP setup was already done and integrated drivers through nlite, then I simply extracted all Windows XP files in their own folder. After that, I simply enter the i386 folder and replace the acpi.sy_ file.

Afterwards, I use WinSetupFromUSB 1.8. Using Rufus and others never worked.

    Notice anything different?

    DX.jpg

Most parts of 9x service packs I would like to use like the VXDs for viewing/reporting up to 2TB of drive space on local and network drives and partitioning/formating without errors with Paragon etcetera. Remember XVDs are not interchangeable between Win98 and WinME.

Will DirectX 11 install on 9x!?

Can you send a screenshot of your A5 BSOD? It will give hints as to what the error is

Have you tried my ISO? It has a patched ACPI driver that should have fixed these errors (unless i've missed something)

Yes, I've tried it without any success. I also tried manually transferring your ACPI.sys driver to a Windows XP installation.

This PC lacks a native CD-drive, so I'm not sure if using WinSetupFromUSB 1.8 broke something.

Also, I may (probably not) have found a video driver for Windows XP.

If the system is already installed, then boot from any Live CD and replace the file. Or pack the file in the cab archive and replace it on the installation disk using UltraISO.

I tried re-enable ACPI using instructions from here https://www.win-raid.com/t4035f45-Windows-XP-SP-bit-and-modern-PC-parts-64.html#msg81927
Your new acpi.sys did not prevent the computer (Bay Trail) from having a BSoD after re-enabling.

  8. Excuse me, is it possible to install the ACPI.sys file on a Windows XP installation? I'm hoping to do this without reinstalling XP.

I tried installing it via hardware manager (standard pc) with no success! Am I supposed to install it another way?

  9. Turns out I used the incorrect Windows XP SATA driver the first time I installed this and I certainly didn't need to disable acpi either (or even replace it).

Just use the "Universal 32bit Intel RST textmode driver v11.2.0.1006"
    https://www.win-raid.com/t22f45-Guide-Integration-of-Intels-AHCI-RAID-drivers-into-a-Windows-XP-W-k-W-k-CD.html

    Integrate SATA driver with nLite.

Use WinSetupFromUSB to create a bootable iso

Make sure the computer itself is in legacy boot to allow a boot from USB

Before Windows XP's setup gets far, press f5 and change to "Standard PC," failing to do so will result in a BSoD.

    FHOqRDh.jpg
Done the right way this time. The toilet roll strikes back! ^o^

The chipset and sata driver are no problem, but I have yet to figure out how to force the pc from a "Standard PC" to an ACPI one. I obtained a custom acpi.sys which apparently fixes issues with XP systems.

The video, audio, and network driver are problematic. It seems I can't find an XP driver anywhere! One option for the video driver is the universal NT series driver...but it doesn't support hardware acceleration. The audio driver I tried from dell failed...and I can't find an XP network driver anywhere T_T

    Blackwingcat's link is also broken:thumbdown

Use DependencyWalker to check both webkit.exe and Msvcrt.dll for _resetstkoflw.

    (answers.microsoft.com)

    I'll do that soon.

It appears that Avant browser probably has a rollback for an XP-specific version of Chromium and Vista uses the 7+ version, maybe. It would explain why Windows XP did not give a single error message but Vista had an endless, hysterical cycle that required ending the process tree.

  12. Has anyone tried Avant browser on Windows Vista? I just installed it on XP. It launches but does not load anything; it's completely blank besides the window. The options are viewable but pages do not load.

Avant browser uses Chrome 74.0.3729.131 and Firefox 66.0.5.7070. If these two are included within the browser automatically and do not require a manual installation like Lunascape, that's kinda impressive.

EDIT: Oddly, WIndows XP does not give an error, but Vista does. "webkit.exe - Entry Point Not Found" appears. The program then stops responding on Vista.

... If you thought 360/Qihoo had shown scandalous behaviour (in the past?), what do you call QQ's one ?

    https://www.quora.com/Is-QQ-safe-to-install

... And, as mentioned elsewhere, I simply hate it that the latest breed of Chinese Browsers (e.g. Maxthon and QQBrowser) auto-associate themselves with Word and PDF documents, including media (audio+video) files...

I had once Maxthon 5 installed in its portable mode, but even then it kept hijacking document and media file associations; I had a terrible time ridding my laptop's disk and registry of many of its remnants  ...

Yikes...thanks for the heads-up. I used the Chinese web browser with a caution before but dang... :(

Yeah, I’m fairly skeptical of trying this myself due to the Chinese origin and the scandalous behaviour 360/Qihoo have shown in the past. Pretty impressive that a Chrome 69 derivative works at all on Vista...

QQ Browser uses Chromium 70 :3

Now we need to figure out how to find or compile an offline installer in case the company discontinues this version.

You booted in compatibility mode. Windows uses the BIOS to access the Hard Drives in this mode. Hard Disk access speed is severely reduced and some functions may not work.

You will need to switch to Legacy Mode or use my AHCI Driver.

The PC was on AHCI mode; the Thinkpad R60 only provides two options in the BIOS: "ACHI" and "Compatibility."

Thank you for the clarification of limited high drive speeds. It makes sense why the system was kinda unstable.
