  1. Great theology Hyper :)

    In regards to Odyssy I was referring to that of their calculation to time, but ya some theories they made were based on facts. Quantum Computers would litterally put modern computing to shame.

    I have no doubts that a modern computer could generate all possible images, the only question is when it would spit them all out, but by that time everyone would be using some kind of fiber optic nerve placed in their body at birth to generate and render computer images and such...

    Just imagine playing DOOM and feeling as if you were litterally in the game. That would be godly!! We could only imagine.............

  2. I agree, never thought about the smugness of college stundents. It's just ignorance on their part, more or less the majority of these students will end up in Government correctional facilities. Also, I agree that these students *should* really be helping out and asking logical questions instead of being an id***.

    Though, it is getting harder and harder to fool network security professionals. This past month alone I caught 238 individuals attempting to gain access into our network, as a couple employees :(, but all in all, I find it pathetic and just plain stupidity. They all have court dates, in fact, some were students trying to prove something, not a smart move on their part. Now they face looseing everything.

    Yup... I see that all the time in my courses as well... I also see people who don't properly understand how C++ programming works... I can't count the number of times I've seen "smart" students code:

    if(something==something_else) return true;
    else return false;

    GRAHHH! You can replace all of that with...

    return (something==something_else);

    So much cleaner, so much simpler. Oh... and the students who write the first also brag about how many lines of code they've written... The second example is easier to understand (once you know what you're doing), and will execute faster than the first.

    As for the reasoning to write viruses, it's got to do with a feeling of pride, as well as the ability to steal information from other people to make money. Many people have mentioned the possibilities that we would be able to accomplish if all these people spent their time making productive software.

  3. if you're not including the version of Windows XP since it was installed by the network admin, i think its illegal to sell without formatting the harddrive clean. They probably run the same serial number on all 5 computers.

    Correct. Drive's need to be stripped unless you physically own and willing to transfer the cd key, which I doubt as most Educational facilities have a single rated license.

  4. I voted for starter edition, just cuz its the same as all the rest, cept cheaper...and then..well...my next step would involve getting that thing that 'unlocks'  :P So poof i instantly have Vista UE! B)  ;)

    Hate rain on your warez / freeloader parade, but MS has already thought well in advance for pirated copies or cd keys. Starter Ed as any other rely upon dependencies to function. Starter Ed is not a full version the same with Professional or Basic.

  5. How do you know press any key isnt a ms beta tester, i am and it hasnt shown up on Microsoft Connect

    I do agree with you second point.

    Microsoft Connect does not receive exclusive beta products. Only MSDN subscribers do and very very seldomly do TechNet subscribers. If this guy was a beta tester or developer he would not be complaining why he did not get it.... it's widely available on MSDN services. I am looking at it and can download it again if I wanted to, I have an enterprise MSDN subscription ;)

    Microsoft Connect is a free general beta service.

    Opera 8.5 is free, most customizable and secure browser there is. Go nuts over that, forget about IE...

    It's nice, but not the most secure.

  6. What are you talking about? IE7b1 or any beta is not FREE PERIOD. Microsoft, as any company in fact, reserves any and such rights to hold back any release to the public and to it's beta developers. It's a CLOSED BETA publication!

    If you want to be involved with Microsoft beta services I would suggest you either subscribe to a TechNet or MSDN service.

    Personally, I think Microsoft have shown initiative in allowing the group of people most likely to 'destruct test' their software properly an early view. Means it will probably be a better final product.

    I could not agree with you any more. Microsoft is the only company that has shown inovation and the curiousity of what the future will be like. UNIX has always stayed it's path. NIX is great, but for a home office / home user environment it's no where close to where Microsoft has placed their software. If it were not for Microsoft's inovation, technology would be nothing as it is today.

  7. Why are there seeds in my jelly?!

    Seriously though, viruses have been developed since the dawn of computer's.

    I agree 'some' of these so-called security companies develop their own viruses, using security holes to their advantage. They will finally submit their discovery after learning that someone else may have found it. However, It would be the largest scandal in history, if the majority of the viruses on the internet were developed by these companies, "IF" proven.

  8. Nice work... however, I installed it on a virtual image and like to install 'some' of your modification's on a live setup. How can i extract your exe so that it does not install on top of everything.

  9. A good read http://www.richardwarrenfield.com/Predicti...tMillennium.htm, most of what is said I agree with.

    If you think ahead three millennium's from now, what would you think this world would be like? Makes you think about is life as we know it by that of definition or a process of artificial intelligence (not matrix movie). Sure we have skin, bones and can inflict pain/pleasure and receive pain/pleasure, but what is your brain categorized as? By fact it's a large muscle with electron's/nuetron's feeding your body telling you what things are, the fluid (blood) keep the body in function and a well living temperature for the body to relax, the lungs to cool function as a filter and cools the bodies fluids (blood) so that the body does not burst and basically melt down and die it also brings oxygen into the body's fluids, the computer function's in the ideal process.

    Question: Do you actaully think that the only living organism's and animal's live outside of the body? Think again... inside the body is an entirely different world with more living organism's and animal's that help the body stay functioning.

    I believe it.... today's technology no, but 100 years from now I can see computers, what we call today, will be full fledge AI's without human intervention. Then moving into then next millenium I could even see reproduction of an AI. Soon enough we will have "H.A.L.", not Space Odyssy 2001.... they were entirely off track.

    Sound's rediculous, but think of this... civilization never even had the light bulb, pen, pencil, paper, or match until someone had invented it. If you traveled back into time say B.C. era you will be considered a GOD with the wealth of knowledge and technology in your hands, then again you just might be killed.

    True, very true...

  11. Well, even though I do not play games anymore I really am impressed with future versions of these FPS games. Becoming more and more life like (almost).

    I have reviewed Battlefield2 and is quite impressive with the new game engine.

    It raises a lot controversy of what gaming will be like in 5 years from now or even 10. I can guarantee some sort of VR FPS and MMORPG's. I might start playing when a VR system, like the movie "Thirteenth Floor", comes out and only mature adults can play :D

    Ten years ago we were in the 2D age and could not scrape the 3D evolution of gaming. Duke n Nukem was one of the biggest hits.

    Fifteen years ago we were in the Pong / Pacman / Tank evolution.

  12. Well they are all good idea's but. Finding out why it is beeping and the code to the beep is essential before checking anything else.

    Your system speaker beeps for a reason. I wouldnt get too involved with your system until you know what the beeps are. You should never disable your system speaker.

  13. Navigate to Contol Panel then open Network Connections. Select your network connection (ie. Local Area Connection 1, 2, 3, etc..) Right click then Select "Show Icon in Notification Area when connected" & "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity" make sure they are both selected on both machines.

    Some sites with helpful info, but if all else fails we are here to help.

  14. He was a Great Man and Leader to many. He has helped with the way society is distinguished today.

    I am not a Catholic, but agreed with many of his views. However, one topic we both agree'd upon strongly was the pathetic "same-sex marrige" fools. I just hope this idiodic ceremony is put to an end.. needless to say lets refuge them to a deserted island with 400 foot peremeter wall and guard dogs trained to attack on call "sick balls, chopper".

    Don't worry, the World's not Ending... Yet!

  15. Apparently something is wrong with it.

    Look in your motherboard user manual and distiguish the beeps from the system speaker to what the manual states. After you have figured that out determine what needs to be fixed to resolve your issue.

    If you do not have a manual look up your motherboard online. If you did not build your own system contact your vendor who you purchased your PC from.

    Disabling beeping is going to cost you. I just hope you have the funds to back up a melted system and ignoring the fact that something is wrong.

  16. I think we all knew that SP3 was coming regardless. Longhorn will never be released.

    I agree with simon.. sidebar is totally useless, unless you have dual 28" monitors. Desktop space is the most important feature on a workstation. Transparent window edges and fancy animations is not needed for a workstation or server.

    I need a workstation to compute numbers and query information. Not visually stimulate my nuero senses, I halo jump every weekend for that stimulation.

  17. Hehe. ICMP is open.. oh my what is this world coming to.

    Just block the port under windows ICF. You can not disable ICMP unless your using a hardware firewall. But if you not already have one I would suggest getting one. Check the forums for Hardware Firewalls, I know we had discussed hardware firewalls within the community.

    ICMP is not bad to close or leave it open. It's just a basic protocal to get an active hello, without actually knowing the machine is there. However, blocking / closing ICMP will safeguard your machine by droping these packets. ICMP is quite malicious to larger companies, source of DoS attacks.

    I understand your nature to worry. Advertising is brutal and false.
