How can I download symbols manually? If I buy a full version, symbols download auto? thanks You can't buy a full version, you can only make a donation, you may OR may not get a license key after a donation, the license key will remove watermark and any popup boxes and download symbols. Read Post #383 http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163570-aero-glass-for-win81-rtm-rc3/page-16#entry1058721 NOTES: Regedit Setup: IS NOT NEEDED IF you use aerohost.exe to run DWMGlass.dll_Aero Glass 1.2.1 hi... too difficult does bigmuscle will release a new version of aeroglass for Win 8.1 update1? If it's too difficult then stop complaining and move on. It works fine if you follow the directions.
-
Have you found a solution to this? I can't get into safe mode. I was going to try loading windows from the USB and doing a windows recovery Task manager, kill aerohost.exe. Download Symbols, stick them in the symbols folder under where you have aero glass installed, reboot and profit.

And it's not really the devs fault as Windows Style Builder hasn't been updated to support compiling update 1 themes. BTW I did that method to get glow on the default theme and it works great, thanks ace2!
-
Its on the guide, bud. http://glass8.berlios.de/guide.html <--- The regedit chart at the bottom. TextGlowMode. Its good to use a theme that can provide all the glow. I use 0x3. AH, gotcha, so basically I have to wait for 8.1 Update 1 compatible themes that support glow. (8.1 themes don't support context menus on the update 1 start screen)
-
I know this has probably been asked before but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Is there any way to get the glow effect on ribbon-enabled windows? Such as explorer etc...?

I have noticed all those changes and I don't care for any of them. 1. I have StartIsBack, don't need power on the start screen. 2. I hate this new implementation, I thought it was great just being able to right click on multiple pinned apps and then choose your action from the bar that appeared at the bottom, I can still do that by pressing space bar first but right click context menu is useless to me. 3. The new bar at the top just gets in the way, with the close threshold tweaks from Winaero http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.218 it was very easy and intuitive using the mouse to pull apps down to close or sideways to split screens. 4. Never something I wanted, I prefer to have them hidden to the left and out of sight when on the desktop, who wants those ugly icons on the taskbar, first thing I did after the update on my VM was disable it. 5. I have a context menu link to the control panel on the desktop already so don't need it. 6. I have StartIsBack which already does a better job of this and has been one of the included features since it first appeared. 7, The only thing that I am missing and not bothered one bit and could never see myself using anyway. "There are plenty more under the hood changes as well like smaller system requirements, better memory management, etc." I have a plenty powerful Rig with 16GB of RAM, unless your upgrading some old outdated XP machine then who gives a crap about some miniscule improvement in memory management. So, yeah. I will Go ahead and "skip" it, the rest of you can move on with eating your MS diarrhea thinking your making your OS faster, more reliable, and secure. As for "Unless you've actually used it, stay silent" everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine so live with it. As a visual style developer you may want to consider staying updated, especially seeing how most of your themes don't actually support Windows 8.1 correctly in the first place let alone update 1. Sorry if that comes off as a bit harsh, but your 8.1 themes are nothing more than 8 themes that barely work at best, they all contain a rather nasty jump list bug. It's a shame you have this I don't care attitude, especially since your work is some of the best I've seen, if only it was kept up to date for proper support it would be even better.

Links were on MS's servers. download.windowsupdate.com to be exact, so it's official. Relax man, stress isn't good for you

What VS is that?

Wow I was wondering why this wasn't working on my machine. Maybe it is the secureboot thing. I'll turn it off and try again later.
-
I personally love the ability to combine the win+X menu, just makes things that much better for me as I kind of got used to it during my time without the start menu lol.

My understanding is that if BOTH Mobo and HDD are changed then it will de-activate automatically.
-
When you say that it ties to the HDD Serial number do you mean it ties to the physical drive serial or the volume ID of the drive? And is there an effective way to backup an activation for re-installs etc...?
-
Awesome, downloaded and installed. Seems to have resolved the flashing icons bug when running the mouse along the top edge as well.
-
Not sure if this is a bug or not but I wanted to mention that uninstalling beta 3 and installing beta 4 worked fine but the activation timer did not reset. Like I said this might be intended behavior but I figured I would mention it. I had 26 days remaining before installing beta 4, and the same 26 remaining after installing beta 4.

Very interesting! I would/will eventually be doing just this anyway (RDPing) so I will test this just as soon as I have time. I remote into all my servers. No issues on 2012. I saw this when remoting into my Win 8 desktop from work. Haven't tried it with 2012 yet.
-
One scenario where the hot corners seem to break through is when remote desktoping into a machine with startisback installed. Specifically the lower left corner for the start screen. Then when you log back into the physical machine, the hot corner shows the first time you click it, then disappears.
-
I've hit this, as a workaround, disable transparency on the start menu.
-
Awesome work on this so far. Beta 3 is working like a charm, and all of the bugs I noticed in beta 2 are fixed, so awesome job there .
-
Oh wow, these upcoming changes are awesome, can't wait to try them out.
-
One other bug to note, the MFU list in Beta 2 seems to show 1 less than the desired number of programs. So if it's set to the default of 10 it shows 9 and so on.
-
I hope moderators will be able to fix this. I think i would prefer Alt+Win (Win+Alt) as it makes most sense and easy to reach. I like the idea of alt+win now that I think about it, since the keys are right next to each other.
-
Most likely you haven't installed it right. Anyway uninstall with reg file, Win+R should be working. And i hope you didn't left Start8/Classic Shell installed.I've uninstalled with reg file and reinstalled it from C:\Startisback but i've not solved the problem. Maybe, just as an experiment at least you should try what another user did. They created a new user account and then installed StartIsBack on that new user and it worked just fine for them on the new user account. At least then you'd have some idea that the reason it's not working is some setting or something obscure having to do specifically with your current user account. This. There are a multitude of things that can go wrong with a user profile, so create a fresh one and try it, if it works then you know your profile is messed and it's not a bug with StartisBack.

Got Beta 2 installed and so far everything is working great. Just a few things: 1. I would have an alternate way of involking the start screen, such as shift+winkey as most keyboards now don't have a right side windows key, at least none of mine do. 2. When opening a jumplist from the MFU pane (left side of start menu) the transition is a little choppy. Not sure if this can be fixed or not but I figured it was worth mentioning. Other than those 2 things it's going great so far. If I come across anything else I will post right away.
-
Actually, you're wrong about the need for F8 when loading beta video drivers. Since video drivers are USER MODE, signed drivers are not required. Signature enforcement only applies to kernel mode drivers.

Vista Source Patcher is to include Vize resources in Vista source, so you can burn an ISO with Vize integrated. Nothing to do with x64. Well then, don't I feel like an id*** Source patcher implies to me that it is a patcher that dynamically patches the resources in the file, thus being x64 compatible automatically. Maybe you should call it something like Vize WIM Patcher or something.
