  1. Okay, after days of trying everything, I finally got my machine running again. After formatting the HDD a million times, repartitioning, fixing the mbr, playing with bios settings, I still had no luck. In the end I configured my BIOS to fail-safe, and guess what, Windows XP and Win98SE installed like a dream. Now I can't figure out what in the BIOS exactly would have caused all my hassle. I am to scared to try and change the BIOS settings, and Windows starts working again. Conclusion. The HDD is not on its way out, thank goodness.
  2. My 80GB Maxtor HDD is brand new, not even 2 months old. Funny things is that I have the latest BIOS update for my Gigabyte MB, I have Powermax and Maxblaster 3 from Maxtor, and none of them shows any errors. I cleared my HDD with Maxblaster telling it to write zeros to the HDD, then formatted with Maxblaster telling it that I am going to use Windows XP as my operating system. When I want to try and install Windows 98SE, it gives my errors after Scandisk checked the HDD, each time different like error vga.drv, or mouse.sys, and goes back to dos prompt and that is it. Before all of this, Windows98SE or WinME installed without a problem, but then WindowsXP gave me problems. I then reformatted my drive telling Maxblaster I am going to use Windows 95 OSR2/Windows98, started the Windows98SE installation, again errors after scandisk and back to dos prompt. All my ideas have run up and I don't know anymore what to do or to try.

    Windows XP

Warning: a bit long. Recently my machine and Windows XP started to give me lots of trouble. One evening, about two weeks ago, I installed Ahead InCd ver4 onto Windows XP, didn't reboot, but swithced the machione off. The next day I started my machine, gave me a blue screen telling me unmountable boot volume, and fdisk unable to see my logical partition. At the end I got my logical partition back, and took WindowsXP and replaced it with Windows Me & Windows 2000. On both I had the Via Hyperion 4.46 drivers running, and on both OS my burner refused to burn any cd's. Also, both OS showed compact disc for my cd-rom, dvd & CD-RW drives (thats wrong, isn't it). Anyway, uninstalled the Via drivers on Windows 2000, and I started getting the same blue screen as I got in WinXP. After formatting both partition's, I installed WinME on par1 and WinXP on par2. Each time WinMe installs with no problem, but WinXP continouesly said to me that either my C: or D: is corrupt. I have a Maxtor 80GB HDD, so I used the Powermax program to low format the drive. After about 8 hour of this, I repartitioned my HDD into C & D, installed Win98SE this time, no problem. Installed WinXP, same problem saying this time that C: is corrupt ("Setup has determined that drive C: is corrupted and cannot be repaired. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3"). WTF. The I reformated everything with format on the Win98SE CD. Installed Winxp with a dos boot stiffy, and it started installing, but after the dos installation, WinXP just sits on 39minutes, and after about 50 minutes the following error comes up: "The signature for Windows XP Professional is invalid. The error code is 80096001. Fatal error: Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information." Reboot, and I get the blue screen again saying Unmountable boot volume. Played around with some BIOS settings, and eventually WinXP installed. Installed Nero and InCD ver 3x, and then next time when I booted into XP, it gave me the unmountable error again. This went on the whole weekend. I am so sick and tired of my machine, I feel like correcting the error with a cricket bat. HELP!!!! Please.
  4. XP is nice up to a point. I certainly noticed that cd-burning was far better in W2k than XP, also I found memory management to be better in W2k. I just need to find a way to uninstall those stupid VIA drivers. I tried last night under device manager, rebooted, and somehow W2k put the same VIA driver back. If I am not succesful, I will have to do a clean install of everything. Where did you guys get hold of W2k3, as I think its not available in South Africa yet?
  5. I read up one some of Nero's FAQs, and interesting thing they said about the Hyperon 4-in-1 drivers from VIA. They say you should not install the IDE portion of the drivers. Now I have installed both these Hyperon package drivers under Windows 2000 & ME. On both operating systems my three optical drives (48x CD-Rom, CD-RW & DVD-Rom) show Compact disc under my Computer. So now I am thinking that these drivers messed up everything, and that is the reason why I can't seam to burn any CD's in Nero, as well as not being able to use InCD. Funny thing is that these drivers worked perfect in Windows XP, except I never used InCD under Windows XP, as I never got it to work, until recently when my grandfather wanted it on his pc running WinXP,but still dit not try it on my pc. Well, WinXP is no longer on my machine since it lost my logical drive twice. Any comments?
  6. Cool, Thanks!!! Do you perhaps have a quick link to there?
  7. Yes, I am running W2k without any Service Packs, as I have been waiting to get SP4 downloaded, don't want to install SP3 and then SP4. Will see if it fixes it after I have SP4 on.
  8. I am running Windows ME & Windows 2000, dual boot. Under the display properties in Windows ME my Geforce 440MX shows its running 4x AGP bus, but in Windows 2000 it is saying I am running 2x AGP bus. HOw can that be? I am running Detonator v43.45, latest VIA hyper drivers on both OS. Another interesting thing is that before I took of Windows XP, and replaced it with Windows 2000, I scored 300 points more with 3DMark2001 in XP than in WinME.
  9. Been a while since I logged a problem here. I recently took off Windows XP after it magically lost my logical partition for the second time, luckily I got it back, or else I would have lost 19GB of stuff. Anyway, I am now back on Windows 2000 plus Windows Me just for my games. I installed Nero 5.5.1028 on Windows 2000, and when I check under Media Info in Nero, it tells me I have a blank cd with capacity of 703MB. Now when I want to burn something, it tells me there is not enough space on the cd, it needs to overburn. It needs to burn 652MB, but is telling me the disc is only 7 minutes big or 62MB. ??? It did something similar to me on Windows XP, when I wanted to burn 703MB on the disc, and it also refused until I deleted some data to 700MB, and then all of a suddon it burned the CD. Also refused overburn, and I never had this problem before with the other versions. Is this a problem with Nero 5.5.1028, is does it do funny things with a generated serial key? Have not tried 5.51035
  10. I tried disabling Windows cd writing by right clicking on the writable drive and disabling the write option. Then Windows doesn't allow me to access the drive. Even when I reboot. I think I will stick to NTI Filecd. PS! Cant remember if I may ask this, but can you guys maybe give me directions to where I might find a crack for NTI Filecd 2.0.10. Thanks
  11. How do you put the title in. If you right click on InCD in th system tray, you can only get about InCD. Under Nero it only gives full erase or quick erase. The old versions of InCD you would get like a list of options when you right click in system tray. Are you running InCD alone, or with Nero also on your system?
  12. Thanks man. Will try it when I get home this afternoon. Do you know how to get a volume name on a RW when you format?
  13. InCD 3.21 is still crap. Doesn't work under XP. I am running Devils Own of WinXP Pro, and still can't get files to drag and drop to a RW. The RW formats fine under Nero, but XP put Ghost images (shortcut files) of the files on the cd and says wait for the wizard. Well, I am still waiting and no wizard came up. I found NTI Filecd 2.0.10 to be BRILLIANT, pitty I can't find the crack for it. You guys who say InCD 3.21 works under XP, please tell me what you do, cause I certainly must be doing something wrong here. All the previous version under Win2k, 98, ME, worked, but not XP.
  14. I live in South Africa where the exchange rates is not the most friendliest towards us here, so the Geforce 3 is a bit expensive here. Anyway, the Geforce can't run Glide, so that won't help me, and you have a voodoo 5, where as there is nice XP drivers out for it, where there is no Xp drivers for the Voodoo2, only Beta W2K drivers. This totally sucks, because the Voodoo2 was a massive cards in its days and I can't believe that people are just letting it die quietly.
  15. for the link, but those drivers I already have, and I have a Nvidia in my my machine and the creative voodoo2 12MB as second for some of the games that still run on Glide, as for I find Glide is still very much faster than D3D or OpenGL. Croc only have five options to choose from, software mode, some old Matrox and S3 card, Ati Rage, and I think there is a Nvidia card also in there. Tried all of them, on the Voodoo & Nvidia cards, non of the options work except Software mode. O yes, I also downloaded one of the latests glide wrappers that works very well on Nvidia cards, installed it and it also didn't work. Funny enough, it gave me the same error saying there is something wrong with glide2x.dll. Now if I copy glide3x.dll into the directory, do you think it will work. Somehow XP doesn't like this file glide2x.dll.
  16. My wife installed Croc on WinXP, and played it no problem, then I saw that it was playing in Software mode. I then tried the get it to run on the Voodoo 2(using windows 2000 beta drivers), but it gives me a error message saying there is something wrong with glide2x.dll. If you choose Win98/95 compatibility mode, the screen is just blank. No I wonder if this is the same with other older Glide games.:erm:
  17. Is there someone who has good knowledge on proxy servers. I would like to know how to bypass a proxy server. Let me explain. You get these programs like internet eraser, windows washer etc, that deletes and wipes all internet activity. But as far as I understand, it only wipes your machine, and the proxy still records all the websites you surf. Or am I wrong. I am looking for something or a way that the proxy server won't record all my activity on a corporate network. Is there a way to do it and how? Thanks PS! If your can't give me answer here, please direct me to a place where I can get info or mail me at bjorland@hotmail.com
  18. When you go to start, accessories, system tools, system information. it will tel you the version number as well as the build number.
  19. Okay, installed the beta drivers for Windows 2000 on XP and tested Unreal Tournament. Is working excellent and it is fast, but I would like to get official Voodoo 2 drivers for XP running on DirectX 8.
  20. Why is no one releasing drivers for the Voodoo 2. I still keep my Voodoo 2 in my machine for some old Glide games, which still rocks the pants of from D3D & Opengl. Looking for some good new drivers for Win 2000 & XP, the only ones I have is beta release for DirectX 7.
