  7. Hello. If the issue happen when installed Windows update, usually we can perform a system restore to solve the issue. For your symptom, I suggest to boot into Safe Mode first. (press F8 repeatedly and choose safe-mode) Go to Start > Search > type "cmd". Right-click cmd.exe > Choose "Run as administrator". Type in the following command and hit ENTER: sfc /scannow Repair any faults that comes up. If no error disappear, go to Start > Search > type "rstrui" > Hit ENTER. Then restoring to a previously known working restore point。 If Safe mode is not possible, and through the Windows 7 installation DVD the only recovery option you get is: Start-up repair. Did you receive any error message when you click other options on WinRE? Try to change another installation disc for test, also check if any unnecessary hardware connect with PC (USB drive etc.) If this issue is that the machine can't boot into desktop, I think it would be urgent for you, could you please try the in-place upgrade? This is a quick solution. How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2255099 Before re-installing the system, this is the last option for system file corrupt issue (I think there would be some system files corrupted if you can't boot into safe mode either), and the impact is smaller than a fresh installation. If you don't know ho to do and in-place upgrade it's like this: As i mentioned that you will see the following options when booting from the DVD: "The System Recovery Options: - Startup Repair - System Restore - System Image Recovery - Windows Memory Diagnostics - Command Prompt" 1. Have you tried to use the "Startup Repair" option? If it works? 2. If you have created any restore point, then you can use "system restore". 3. If you have created backup of your machine, then we can use "system image recovery". 4. Use "Command Prompt" to run "sfc /scannow" and restart the machine to check if it works now. 5. If none of them works, then the only solution is to re-install the machine if you can't log into the desktop. Thanks. Also notice: 1. Usually there would be a restore point created when installing update. 2. It may be hard to troubleshoot the issue now. Have you checked if you can see the options(Windows Memory Diagnostic and Command Prompt) now with the new installation? or Boot with WIN7 DVD , select custom installation , and go for repair the previous installation. or Insert the Windows DVD and boot it . Now from the menu list select the ‘Command Prompt’ option. At the DOS prompt type the following three commands: bootrec.exe /fixmbr bootrec.exe /fixboot (may return an 'Eliment not found' message) bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd Close the command prompt window and click the ‘Startup Repair’ option. The repair process may take some time, so wait until the process complete . Remove the System Repair DVD and click ‘Restart’. Reboot the computer. Hope this helps. Also guess how old i am? you might be surprised Regards, Andre Goodarzi a.k.a DataCracker7899 from G7 NanoHax
