  1. I had a lot of problems with this version of glass, it was causing dcom errors that were causing crucial services not to start (Event ID 10005). I know it wasn't caused by anything else as it only started happening after I installed glass, and it went away when I uninstalled it.
  2. The error I had is this. As I had a second key I didn't need I won't bother going to the trouble of getting the key reset for now but here's the diagnostic info if it will help you figure out what happened Old machine code was
  3. Sorry if this makes it sound like I don't appreciate the hard work done with AG, but the method used to verify a license is utterly ridiculous. I upgraded my Intel RST drivers and now for some reason the utility appears to have given me a totally different machine code. It would make a lot more sense if the code was generated using the physical identification number of a hard drive, something that is not prone to changing across fresh installations and driver upgrades. I understand you need some compensation for your product but this is ridiculous.
  4. If you have the swatches already installed from the beta version and select to add them when you install the final they appear twice in the customisation panel
  5. When you say the activation code is generated by your HDD number, do you mean the VSN (volume serial number) or the physical serial number of the drive?
  6. This is a known bug that goes all way back to the very first days of MSE after Microsoft acquired the company that made it originally, and affects folders with a large amount of executables in them. My guess is that it's on demand scanner isn't very clever and scans them as the system opens access to the EXE to retrieve it's icon, which causes the lag in displaying the icons. This bug has nothing whatsoever to do with SIB. It's been reported and Microsoft have done sod all to fix it.
  7. I know, I just want to know why it keeps running with that message
  8. Well it's certainly trying to do something because I run the EXE and it just leaves this window running
  9. How long is the time limit, also the DWM symbols appear to be unable to download.
  10. Replicated, none of my screensavers are available either
  11. It's very disappointing to hear that they've purposely gimped it to make the start apps impossible to use. Screw you, Microsoft
  12. Wow, this was a blast from the past. I remember seeing the flapping notepad window at the time and thinking it was really cool and hoping the build would leak. It would be interesting to have a play about with it and see DWM when it was in it's infancy but I doubt it's going to ever leak.
  13. Given Windows 8 2 cracks of the whip now and still can't get it to work properly. First time around bad_pool_header BSOD's whenever using Vlite to master a Vista image for a client, second time around constant malfunctions of my USB devices. Despite the insistence of Hawkman from Neowin (Who is essentially more of a smug and arrogant know it all than a real tech enthusiast) that my USB filter drivers were not installed, I couldn't find them being offered for my board or my Renesas USB chipsets. Nor have I ever had to install them in Windows 7, even through Windows update. I also had episodes where Media Center would just randomly stop responding to my remote inputs. The update was only £14.99 but I still feel like I wasted my money. It's going to be a long while before I try using Windows 8 again, it's staggering that it would work so badly on a computer I built at the end of 2011
  14. Those features aren't specific to SSD's, they are the same regardless of the type of drive you boot Windows from. My comment still stands, Windows 8 does not have any new SSD features.
  15. On the whole Neowin is full of sycophants, it's not worth going there if you want an informed discussion about technology. Especially if you use Google stuff, then they're openly hostile. I'm glad there's a bit more open mindedness here at MSFN.
  16. There are no new SSD features in Windows 8. I think he's referring to the launch propaganda Microsoft made about the new hybrid boot mode being "amazing" on an SSD
  17. I honestly mean no disrespect by this at all but "my software is cheap" isn't an argument to provide poor customer service. I'm not suggesting it's made easier to pirate, just that legitimate customers that have to transfer their license for legitimate reasons be provided with a means to do so. Maybe an online account manager that allows a customer to de-authorise their license on a registered device to transfer it to another but only do so once a month, quarter, ETC maximum? I'd also like to reiterate I still think that what you're doing is great, you are still providing the best start replacement yet!
  18. I still think tying it to the serial number of a specific drive is a bad idea, as another member pointed out, people do change their drives for various reasons. Edit: Never mind, I see you answered that. One final question then, how flexible will you be prepared to be if a registered customer has to ask for a transfer to a new machine for any reason? I really do want to support you, so please don't think I'm complaining for the sake of it I just want to know that i'll be safe in the case of the unforeseen
  19. Tying it to a hard disk's serial number isn't a particularly great idea in my opinion, it means every time you do a format followed by a clean install it will assume you're activating on a new computer. As much as I like this project, I'm afraid I cannot in good reason commit to buying until a more reasonable way to manage licenses is found, given how often I reinstall it won't take me long to eat up my "new PC" quota.
  20. I'm also unable to reproduce this bug. Did you make any other changes?
  21. Some of the features in the MetroUI and the design paradigm in general can be seen to have their roots in Neptune, they weren't enabled by default but a couple of years back some developers found a way to enable a feature Microsoft were planning called "Activity Centers" which follow a somewhat similar paradigm to Metro.
