  1. Help I'm addicted to trying to help people on these forums. This is a most horrible addiction and I think I need a support group. We need to start a forum on here for msfn addicts. I can't get my work done.... I'm at work now and I just wanna post stuff!!!!!! HELP ME!!!!!
  2. Heh, sorry MCT it was a joke. A duron 900 for 90 dollars? It was a joke about how outdated the site was. I could get an amd athlon xp 2800+ for that price.
  3. Hey simon, did you do any performance tests on that cpu? Compare and contrast... I would love to see what the other 2.4 ghz gets you. And this is just one water with a voltage mod? Darn nice overclocking.
  4. I just had to add this... after going to one of the websites in this thread I just couldn't help but bring back a tidbit of information from one....... here it is A Big time chip at a bargain basement price! The Duron 900 will set you back a mere $79.95 (dear lord.... what a lovely bargain)
  5. Welcome to msfn. Hope you enjoy!
  6. Hello Barnowl and Dagonet. I just recently joined myself and there is a vast amount of knowledge on these pages and I hope to gain some as well as share my own. Nice to meet both of you!
  7. No problem, you may want to check back in this thread. Maybe someone here has worked with dos more then me (I'm absolutely sure theres lot of them) and they may know away other then using a third party application.
  8. Also you could try using some sort of partioning software to change drive letters but that gets a little complicated. If you feel like doing this though do a google search for changing drive letters using partition magic. I'm sure that will come up with something. Laters
  9. Hard drives lettering as far as I know is not a set thing. When you boot your computer (into dos anyways) it gives a letter to the first primary partion on the hard drive (normally c:) then it looks for the first primary partion on any secondary drive and names that d:. This continues on until you have run out of hard drives. It then goes back and names all logical drives in the same order (first recognized disk, second, so on) So your stuck with those drive letters in dos. Now if your talking about windows you can go into disk management and assign drive letters to different partitions (primary, logical, extended) just remember if you have any programs that are pointed to a certain drive and you change that drive letter those programs will either need to be reinstalled or somehow pointed to the right drive. Hope this was of some help to you!
  10. Try resetting the bios This issue can be caused by any of the following: Corrupt boot files on the computer. Settings for hard disk drive are not correct. Boot devices not set properly. BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly. Connections loose or disconnected. Bad Hard disk drive or other bad hardware. (Found on google in .35 seconds) (hope this helps you)
  11. I had ordered two of those boards. First one I received was broken by Fed- ex... second worked great. Except for it had voltage problems when it came to overclocking. So I got myself and ABIT nf7 -s. Great motherboard... just missing a couple things like secondary lan port. *shrug*
  12. Well, not to be negative, but according to what I've read and learned on this there is no way to restore AD without the registry (which of course you already know) Since like you said is tied in with the system state along with a couple others. Rebuilding the networks a pain but atleast the wizards make it go by pretty fast. Although this thread makes me wanna find a way so I'm gonna keep looking through our books here and the web. Stupid registry
  13. AMD Athlon XP 2800+ "Barton", 333MHz FSB, 512K Cache Processor - Retail Model# AXDA2800BOX Item # N82E16819103377 Specifications: Model: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Core: Barton Operating Frequency: 2.08GHz FSB: 333MHz Cache: L1/64K+64K; L2/512K Voltage: 1.65V <-------- Process: 0.13Micron Socket: Socket A Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, 3DNOW!, 3DNOW!+
  14. A socket A 2800+ at 2v. That seems a little high. I think my 2500+ stock its 1.6v or 1.65. I would go ahead and try lowering that voltage if I was you. Of course more voltage means more heat dispersion. I'd give that a try and see it it works. If not make sure you applied a thermal pad or thermal paste. (I'd try to find what stock voltage is for the 2800. I know its a little higher then the 2500, but hopefully not that much) And of course make sure your heatsink fan is working heh. Let me know how it goes.. I'll check back in 8 hours
  15. I still think the best processor for the money is the 2500+ overclocked. With the mobile version it overclocks quite well. 2.2 ghz on air with no voltage increase. (Almost a 400 mhz increase) And at a cost of 65-80 dollars depending on where you get it, its hard to beat that. Even with a stick! Although a Amd 64 fx 55 or an intel 3.6 ghz Extreme Edition would be a very welcome sight in my hands!
  16. I believe the best I've gotten on 3dmark 01 was 14684. This was on my home computer at 1024x768 res AMD 2500+ OCed to 2.2 ghz Radeon 9500 Pro OCed to 330 core 310 memory (620) 1 gig of corsair ddr400 With Omega drivers (based on 4.8) Just downloaded the 4.9 set two days ago along with 3dmark 05 and haven't had the chance to give it a good go. I'll probably try that out tonight... I know it gonna be pretty pathetic though. Just did 3dmark 2005 Got a 1481 for video. Thats not to bad for a first generation direct x 9 card Updated... heh guess I had an early version of 2005... newest stats are: 1907 3dmarks 3466 Cpumarks Makes me happy
  17. Ok this isn't from personal knowledge but i did some searching of my own and got someinfo. Basically the path to fixing this is to uninstall all versions of adobe reader. Delete other randomly located adobe files throughtout your hard drive. Go through the registry (after backing it up of course) and deleting all instances of adobe (unless you have another adobe product). Reboot the machine and reinstall the lastest acrobat reader. If this doesn't work let me know and I see what else I can come up with.
  18. Pesko has a great idea. If you have a time during the day to actually take the domain controller offline and not have it affect anyone, (Which is the case in my sbs2k3 server). You can back up the system state and reinstall sbs2k3 and then do an authoritative restore to the machine using the directory services restore mode. I would definitely do some research about sbs before planning this though.
  19. I think the alien and matrix ones are the coolest looking. All great designs though. Wish I had more time to mod...
  20. Are you trying to use the dsa and the dll from w2k or w2k3? w2k files will not work as you obviously know from having to use the full adminpak for 2003. If you are using the 2k3 version you could always install the full adminpak and remove all the ones you don't want. I know its lame and I'll try to find another way, but thats the only thoughts I have at the moment.
  21. Wow simons thats a nice looking psu. I myself have an amd 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ using abit nf7. One 120 gig seagate and one 80 gig WD hd. An ati radeon 9500 pro overclocked to 330/315. 7 case fans one cd-rw, fan monitor, a pci fan card (for blowing cool air over the radeon) all of it was ran by a 420 watt true antec. Now its got a 480 true blue antec which I swear by for stability. Not bad for I believe 70 dollars at the time. Just my two cents
  22. What are you doing to remove the troubled driver? Just removing it under hardware manager or are you using something like driver cleaner. I suggest removing it with driver cleaner and trying after that.
  23. This may seem silly to ask but did you make sure the Windows Internet Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service was running and set to automatic. Also you could attempt to rerun the network wizard by going to a run command and typing in inetwiz. Although I doubt this will help out. Any further information on what settings were changed would help out.
  24. I think ej has it. The only other things are if your computer is overclocked it could have problems decoding and writing to disk, and the possibility that you have two cd-roms and the installation is trying to find the files on the wrong drive.
  25. I just happened apon this site while trying to find away to... you guest it slipstream hotfixes into a winxp or win2k cd. I had done some slipstreaming before but nothing like what I'm trying to do now. This site seems like a great place to pick up knowledge. Also, amazingly most of the posts here seem civil and no ones getting down on others. Its great to be a new member and I hope I can help others. At the time being I work for Providence Hospital as a systems administrator and of course do side work and webpage building. Thanks for reading my little introduction
