  1. I've searched the whole forum for "NoUpdatePromptTime" but no luck, so here is my question;

I'm still using MSN 6.2 and every 2 weeks it notifies me of a new MSN version, and every time I have to tell it to leave me alone for another 2 weeks.

I did a registry search and found the MSN folder with the key responisble > NoUpdatePromptTime with it's value: 10 ac 03 f7 32 2b c6 01. This is abracadabra for me.

Does anyone know how to disable this completely?

    Bump?

  3. Just as I thought...It seems the makers of FEAR still use the same MP3 Codec they used in their previous hits, like No One Lives Forever (Kate Archer ), and also same story here.

Jeremy, do you have any other MP3 Codec installed besides the one installed with FEAR that is?

If not, and you are also sure you haven't disabled audio in the ingame settings :P, then I would also blame nLite I guess. But I still have a rather old nLite windows running at the moment so I dont know...(I dont have any problems with FEAR)

  4. (strange, I didn't get email notification for this...)

    Hey Corone!

I would like to advise you to create a small website... it would be great for spreading this superb package! I think it is really neccessary...

I've already made some preparations for this, but I'm also busy with other things.
...seems I have been using Cyberlink dvd decoder for a long time because I once read this is the best software decoder for mpeg2. Can you verify this? But Cyberlink is not free... I guess if I don't have a Cyberlink player cd somewhere it is illegal to use.
Imo it is yes, and so (unlike other people who also create filter packages) I will not include any material which isn't free. Yeah well, what is "best"? Speed, quality? If you're planning on watching High Definition material it would be very usefull when your MPEG2 Decoder support DXVA (DirectX Video Acceleration), but too bad no opensource filter support this. The opensource MPEG filters from Gabest are the easiest way for people to watch MPEG2 files and DVD's imo.
(BTW I assume I do not need to configure ANYTHING?)
In the readme you will find the instructions to enable some media formats in FFDShow which aren't enabled by default. And on page 3 I made a post about some handy functions of FFDShow. But concerning the filters within my package, there's nothing you have to do except hit the DSFP_inst.bat to install.
Ape, MOD, MPC, OFR (Optimfrog): I don't use these audiotypes and I never even found one when downloading... so for these things I don't need the pack.
I recently had this discussion with Fridge-Raider, and I decided that with the next version, I will release two different version; a normal version and a full version. The normal version will include basic things like MP3,OGG,etc, whereas the full version is like the package right now.
I don't see a reason for the following:

-Gabest CDDA Source Filter 1.0.0.1 (25112005)

Filter for playback of Audio CDs

--> MPC plays them perfectly (however I use Winamp to play 99% of my music)

First of all, if you play 99% of your music with WinAMP or any other plugin-based media player you don't need my package at all...

And second, you have to realise this package I didn't primarily create for MPC, but for any DirectShow media player. It's just that MPC already has many filters integrated, but that's not the case with any other DirectShow media players. I myself am using Zoom Player, which is a very advanced DirectShow based media player, but doesn't include one single filter. (otherwise I could have called it "MPC Filterpack" or something)

--> FFDshow can handle subtitles just fine!
Sure it can, but the main reason for that is that it can't detect subs inside MKV-files (just yet?).
Q:DCoder also has a Monkey Audio Source Filter, why RadLight?

A:Actually it doesn't matter which one you choose, both of them work fine.

---> I thought the whole idea is not to install things you don't need, not to install 2 things if one of them can do the job, why is RadLight APE Source Filter included if Dcoder can do this also?

Because it doesn't matter which one you choose, both of them work fine. But I just made a choise and I included the one from RadLight in my package (not both!)
Also I have a suggestion, instead of having a folder called DSFP in Program Files, wouldn't it be better if you call the folder DirectShow Filterpack? Then if one scrolls through the Explorer he won't ask himself "huh what's that strange foldername?"
    Suggestion noted and stored.
  5. If PC4000 DDR Ram will run on your system I'm not really sure, but I'd like to tell you that I too have those specs (see sig), but just with PC3200 (Corsair), and it all works fine. Sure I also thought about buying another 1Gig for my system, but then I got back into reality realising Socket A is already an aging system and I really wondered if it still would do any good this extra memory...

The thing you (and me :P) really need is better CPU power and that works great with 2Gigs of memory I guess. Imo 1Gig of DDR Ram for an old Socket A system would be a waste money, and I'm also not too sure if you'd even noticed some better performance (less stutter) in Battlefield 2 for instance.

(as you can see, comments are not based on facts, but on strong hunches of course :P)

  6. This took me quite some time, so... (for me PCI videocards are ancient history!)

According to this site your Dell 3000 has the Intel 865GV intregrated graphics processor. For a performance roundup, this site I found had the most similar contenders (Intel 865G).

I also did find a site with a PCI videocards roundup (the last one before AGP I guess). And I guess Club 3D PCI videocard is the top model with a PCI interface.

Though decision if you ask me, because if you watch those benchmarks I don't think you will gain much performance with the purchase of this ATI Radeon 9250 videocard.

  7. What ripken said. There is no way the 9600 is going to run FEAR at playable graphics and framerates.
Let alone UT2007. Hell, I even think my X800 XT will have a hard time render all this advanced stuff.

    "UT2007 - what to expect"

    > A new computer!

  8. Because of a nLite installation I don't have Windows Media Player anymore, but afaik it should just work cause it's also just DirectShow.

By the way, you do have a AAC Decoder installed don't you? If not, please do (preferrably ffdshow, but CoreAAC Decoder is oke too), since there's a good possibility the RMVB-file houses AAC Audio.

  9. I'm sorry, but I guess you're in the wrong place here. the CCCP has nothing to do with my package since I don't include any codecs, and I also don't include filters with bad compatibility (like the OGG codecs from Tobias). And if you're absolutely convinced that package is the only one, you should have at least comeup with some good arguments.

  10. I don't think topic hijacking would be appreciated on this forum...Though;

The newest MPEG filters from Gabest decode MPEG-2 (svcd/dvd) by default, and for MPEG-1 files the filters from Microsoft still kicks-in.

I don't know anything of a "skipping problem" with MP4/M4A files...

Also, the M4A format still needs to be configured in Windows.
If you mean file type association; no single media format is associated. I don't know what media player everyone is using.

If you have further questions, please post them in the appropriate thread.

  11. -MP4-files > MP4 Splitter, AAC Audio Decoder (libfaad2, ffdshow)

-OGG-files > OGG Splitter, Vorbis Audio Decoder (tremor, ffdshow)

    DirectShow FilterPack 1.9

    ======================================

    [Content]

    -RadLight OGG Splitter 1.0.0.2 (13022005)
Parses OGG files into a video and/or audio stream

    -Elecard MP4 Demultiplexer 1.4.2.51012 (31102005)
Parses MP4/M4A files into a video and/or audio stream

  12. Mainly for QT Alternative, Real Alternative, DivX, Ogg and MPEG4/M4V/M4A support.

What do you mean by "support"? For playback/decoding or creation/encoding purposes?

For playback purposes all you need is a set of splitters and decoders, and even if you want to creat your own stuff imo you don't even need those big codecpacks.

Have you ever heard of commandline-en/decoders? I don't think many people do. Those are simple DOS exe files and with it you're able to create almost any audio file imaginable. It's not the easiest thing to do and understand, but once you got the hang of it you'll love it. There's a beautifull GUI available for these commandliners named Multi frontend.

And AutoGK is THE solution for DVD to DivX/XviD conversion, which also comes with the latest XviD codec.

What codec does that Klite codecpack have which is really worth looking into then, besides DivX/XivD that is?

As for the XP Codec Pack...

The XP Codec Pack first of all is 5.57MB, contains the FFDShow Video Decoder, but also contains filters of which FFDShow is already capable of handling. (AC3Filter 1.01a RC5 (liba52 in FFDShow), CoreAAC (AAC DirectShow Decoder) 1.2.0 (libfaad2 in FFDShow), OggSplitter/CoreVorbis 1.1.0.79 (tremor in FFDShow)) And it doesn't make sense putting the RealMedia Splitter 1.0.1.1 into the package when Real Alternative already has one.

It's also kinda funny since actually none of the XP Codec Pack's content are codecs, but are all decoders/filters.

Because I let FFDShow do almost all the decoding work, my package is just 2MB.

To play your music files you don't need those big evil codecpacks to be installed

  13. I don't know this Power Video Encoder program of yours, but if you installed the ACM codec it should be listed in the Codecs list afaik: > windows-key+pause, Hardware, Device Manager, Sound, video and game controllers, Audio Codecs.

But, the recommended piece of software for DVD to DivX/XviD (also rather Xvid than DivX) would really be AutoGK. Give it a try. I don't think there's anything more simple then this.
