  1. Would you be kind enough to upload sp2. Thanks
  2. Since the users who don't use the SP was bitching about Win98 SP3.x, I decided not to continue with it. I didn't or don't want to go through it all over again with windows me. I was on the verge of getting banned and a good friend of mine, asked me to fallback. I still read a lot on the forum, but as far as being thoroughly active, I have taken my business elsewhere. You can thank the non-SP users for their crying This is very bad news for the 98 community. As keeper of the service packs your role here is large. Active members on a board like this make up only a small portion of the actual viewership and I assure you that this silent majority is all positive. I hope someone will come in and take over for the great work you have done but I doubt it. wherever you take your business, you will find all the same stereo types and nothing will change until you change. Peace
  3. Hello, the other day I installed Windows ME using 98lite. I chose the chubby option in 98lite keeping the ME shell. My reason for using 98lite over Oppcom is the ability to remove options pre-installation which creates a smaller neater registry. Using the custom installation setting in Windows, I removed a lot of stuff including pchealth, media players, webm, IE, directx, agent, script, update, etc... After installation finished I added back directx 9.0c but chose not to install internet explorer. I then proceeded to Win ME SP3 beta2. SP3 did not like this configuration. MAIN UPDATE acted like it installed properly but I found out later that many of the files did not update. Other options seem to have installed fine. USBSTACK.EXE was not in the windows/system directory. I searched through the service pack for usb support but could not find anything.

    Missing dll

So far this is what I have found out: APPHELP.DLL http://www.dependencywalker.com/faq.html Q. Dependency Walker says I'm missing APPHELP.DLL. Where can I get it from? A. APPHELP.DLL is used by Windows XP's application compatibility feature. It is a Windows XP/2003/Vista/7/8/+ only DLL. If you see this warning, you most likely installed Internet Explorer 6.0 on your pre- Windows XP computer (Windows 95/98/ME/2000). Internet Explorer 6.0 installs a new SHWAPI.DLL that has a delay-load dependency on APPHELP.DLL. This is normal as SHWAPI.DLL does not expect to find APPHELP.DLL on versions of Windows prior to Windows XP. This warning can be ignored. You do not need (or want) APPHELP.DLL on Windows 95/98/ME/2000. USERENV.DLL

    Missing dll

hello, I am trying to install Java jre-6u43 and am getting this error mesage: Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required or this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. I checked dependency walker and I am missing APPHELP.DLL & USERENV.DLL I have Kernlex 4.52 and kstubs822 installed. Could someone help me with this. Thanks
  6. Thanks for all the responses. I used 7-zip 9.20 to extract all files in PRECOPY2.CAB from win98 and then modified file setupx.dll with exescope using these instructions. "In eXescope, expand "Resource" then "String" & find number "96" Click on "96", on the left you will see this number "1526,111" or "1526, 121" or "1526, 115"... ... The last 2 digits may vary depending on the version you have. In any case, change "1526,1xx" into "1526,100" and save. Now, each time you run the install for Win98, you won't have to enter any serial number, nor will there be an upgrade/OEM/full check." Then I used cabpack 1.4a to remake PRECOPY2.CAB. There are still some things I don't understand. Both the modified and original PRECOPY2.CAB use LZX:21 compression yet the modified one now is 2,584KB and the original is 1,305KB. Also when viewing the files inside the modified version using 7-zip, the block column shows all 0's while the original shows mostly 2's and 3's. could someone explain this to me.
  7. Any zip program can extract files from cab archives but how do you import a modified file back into the cab archive?
  8. Hello PROBLEMCHYLD, could you please explain why you prefer Oppcom over 98lite. Thanks
  9. Happy Birthday PROBLEMCHYLD! Thanks for the update.
  10. Which Firefox 10 is working? According to http://kernelex.sourceforge.net/wiki/Mozilla_Firefox : Firefox 10.0.4: Installs and runs unmodified. However, I failed installing 10.0.4esr on 98SE, it said: Sorry, Firefox can't be installed. This version of Firefox requires Microsoft Windows 2000 or newer. The wiki seems incorrect. Did you encounter this error too? The only Firefox 10 mozilla download link is from ESR (10.0.4esr). 10.0.2 download link redirected me to 12. According to your link installing the ESR (Extended Support Release) version avoids frequent automatic updates that can fail under KernelEx. When you click on the ESR channel link http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html it now takes you to version 10.05. Which version should I use? 10.02, 10.04esr, or 10.05esr? I have been wanting to do a fresh install for months now. I can't take the browser crashes (Firefox 2.0.0.20) much longer. I want printing, bookmarks, flash, etc to be functioning. The info on all this stuff is spread out enough making this a fairly daunting task.
  11. Could this be used to run linux versions of firefox on win98 systems?
  12. ??? If you had noticed, this is "in process"... Remember, that this project is BETA. Hello submix8c, I was excited to see the project was silently updated to 3.1 yesterday. Several files pertaining to USB have been updated and I was just wondering how this changes things. No disrespect was intended.
  13. Hi, does 98 SE SP 3.1 change any of the issues with USB and VIA chipsets? There was talk of adding USBHUB20.SYS 4.90.3000.11 to SP3.CAB as VSBHUB20.SYS. Then users with VIA chipsets could delete USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 and rename VSBHUB20.SYS to USBHUB20.SYS. Thanks
  14. Hello Giant2011, how did you install K-meleon1.7a2?
  15. Thank you problemchyld. I really appreciate your effort.
  16. Hello, thanks for the replies. Extract.exe did open win_22..cab but did not open catalog.cab. Extract.exe reports catalog.cab is not a cab file. I at least now feel confident that my copy of WinME is not damaged.
  17. Hello, I am unable open two cab files from Windows ME. They are: 1) CATALOG.CAB 2) WIN_22.CAB 7-Zip 9.20 opens the rest of the CAB files just fine. I have misplaced my CD and would appreciate it if someone could please upload these 2 files. Thanks
