I use Windows 7 x86 for quite some time. I noticed one thing: sometimes is just starting to access the HDD for minutes, slowing down other disk operations. It's not a virus. It's not a hardware problem. I deactivated Restore, Superfetch, Indexing, Windows defender (the scheduled scan) and Scheduled defragmentation. I installed clean, without other programs. Still no change... On the same computer I have another partition with Windows XP x86. Each primary partition is hidden when the computer is booting from the other one. In Windows XP I don't have this problem, even with installed programs. I saw it happening on other computers too. In Vista is worst... Does anybody has an idea which service/process from Windows 7 is doing this, why and how to stop it (safely)...?

Yes, you're right And thank you. Later edit: I tested the programs and I don't see how to set the cache min/max values for every drive. NtCacheSetter sets min and max value but not for each drive. Anyway I tried some values but I didn't see a change in what Task Manager reports. SetSystemFileCacheSize is not for Windows XP. FileCacheTest is for testing.

Thank you but I dont need a tutorial about that, I already know how to do it. The problem is not that I don't know how to use rt7lite's interface but the fact that these registry settings can't be added automatically because Windows 7 x64 doesn't allow that. I asked for a solution, preferebly with Rt7Lite; but if there isn't a solution with Rt7Lite I would accept a solution without.

Thank you. I tried installing in VirtualBox. The Windows Update settings were unchanged (still default). But when I started regedit I noticed that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node is visible. If I try importing your reg file it goes into the node and does change Windows Update settings. If I manually change outside the node then it changes settings. So the question is: how do I "convince" regedit.exe and reg.exe to add/modify/delete registry entries (automatically) outside the node and not in it...?

I did a little research. I tried with regshot and it shows changes in HKLM when I switch from "Never check for updates" to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them": However, with any of the (4) regedit versions that I tryed I can't found "Wow6432node" for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE. But I can found for Classes. And if I search for "AUOptions" key, only one is found (for which the value is unchanged). Is there any solution for my problem...? Thank you.

It's working fine on x86 but not on x64, not even if I restart Windows 7... I monitored the registry manually using regedit and it doesn't seem to be a direct connection between what regedit shows and the keys/values used by the Windows Update GUI. Is there a workaround...?

Hi. I'm trying to integrate/slipstream DirectX June 2010. One way is to add all DirectX files to DVD and start "dxsetup.exe /SILENT" automatically at the end of the installation. But it's 100 MB... I don't see the point keeping all the dll's that are not installed or keeping x64 files for the x86 version. I noticed that there are several DirectX addons for Nlite who are very small in size (12..15 MB). For example these: http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?/topic/8030-release-directx-runtimes-2010jun-3264-bit/ They contain a exe file that can be added in RT7Lite's interface.
