  1. Avast free antivirus & a good firewall have sufficed so far at protecting my pc from others, but why not take precautions like denying access to the hidden administrator account? As for linux, I did try linux before I got Windows 7, & I found them to be inexcusably BUGGY as hell. Kubuntu (one of several that I tried) actually allows you to easily - & accidently - delete it's MAIN interface (not sure what it's called, but it looks like Windows 7's task-bar), which I found out by accident. An OS that is designed to so easily allow THAT to happen (without any WARNING, no less) is something that I would only reccommend to an enemy.
  2. That part about the super administrator account should have read that I at least want to DENY access to it, in case hackers try to enable it for their own uses. As for that search function in regedit, I'll have to remember that. It's too bad that microsoft didn't integrate it into the hard drive search function, but nothing that microsoft does suprises me.
  3. Protects us? When has wrp ever protected BLOATWARE 7 from viruses & such? Windows 7 needs tweaking, & I will not apologize for tweaking it.
  4. I have Windows 7 home premium 32-bit american english version. I am in the process of disabling & (when possible) removing bloatware from Windows 7, & am looking for suggestions on other things to remove. This is a list of things (technically, keywords for hard drive searches) that I have targeted so far. biometric bluetooth desktop.ini favorites bar fax hibernate indexing libraries mspaint (repLacing with gimp) notepad (replacing with notepad++) pagefile printer readyboot readyboost smartcard stickynotes superfetch tabletpc uac volume shadow copy wga windows defender (repLacing with avast free antivirus) windows photo viewer (replacing with faststone maxview) write cache wrp & now, the questions. 1) I have heard some people mention that there are approximately 500MB of some unneeded drivers. Where are they? 2) Is there a tool that will search for things in the registry? I'm NOT referring to registry cleaners (I already use ccleaner & ccenhancer). Windows 7 doesn't search the registry, so I need something that will. 3) Where is the super/hidden administrator account in the hard drive? So that I can remove it, or at least access to it? 4) Does anybody know how to disable the favorites bar in IE-9-beta? Every time that I delete it, it comes right back.
  5. THIS HOW-TO IS FOR WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 32-BIT AMERICAN-ENGLISH LANGUAGE VERSION. I assume that this can be modified to also apply to 64-bit versions of Windows 7 by mentally replacing every instance of x86 with x64, but I cannot confirm this because I only have the 32-bit version. --- WRP stands for windows resource protection. It is an abomination, & is something that you will want to disable or remove. To help with that, I have located all of the files & folders that are involved with wrp. This does not include anything in the registry, because Windows 7 does not search in there. If you don't have Unlocker, you can download it from here. It will help alot. http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/ You will have to do these things for all of the files & folders listed here. Right click a file or folder, go to Properties, Security tab, click "Advanced", go to Owner tab, click "Edit", click the "Replace owner on subcontainers & objects" box if it's there, click the name of your user account, click "Apply", & click 3 "OK" buttons. Then click "Edit" & "Add", type "Everyone" without the quote marks, click "OK", click the top "Allow" box, click "Apply" & "Yes", & click 2 "OK" buttons. Finally, delete the files & folders listed here & restart your pc. These are the files & folders that are involved with wrp. I have listed the files that are involved with wrp directly under the names of the folders that they are in. 6. I have Windows 7 home premium 32-bit (American english language version), & I think that I need to reinstall it (preferably asap), but I have some questions before I do so. Why I think that I need to do this is because after I downloaded Fire-fox, I removed as much of IE as I could. I searched through the hard-drive for it & used unlocker to remove whatever I found. Then I found that I needed a non-Fire-fox browser because Fire-fox most online images are jpegs, & I prefer to save jpegs as bitmaps (which Fire-fox won't do) & then convert them to pngs later. At first I tried Avant (which opens links in new tabs as BLANKS) & then Maxthon (which can't render/open 99% of the sites that I go to), got sick of their short-comings, & uninstalled them. Finally, I downloaded & tried installing IE9-beta, but it fails to finish installing because Windows 7 says that I have a newer version of IE already installed. I have all of my images & text files backed up at http://www.4shared.com/ & on cd-roms & all of my programs are free stuff that I can re-download in I do need to reinstall Windows 7. & now, my questions. 1) Given my situation, is there something that I should try to get IE9-beta installed before giving up & just reinstalling Windows 7? 2) The reinstall will be to the same computer that it's already on, so can I use the same activation number as before? If not, what is microsoft's phone number so that I can get a new activation number, if possible? 3) Is there a way to reinstall Windows 7 & IE9-beta instead of IE8, because I would prefer to use it instead? 4) Is there any way to trim the fat from Windows 7 DURING the reinstall?
  7. 1.1 then 3.5 (which includes 2 & 3) then 4.0 will cover all the bases for any .NET based application you might run into. I have Windows 7 home premium 32-bit, & I need to install the .net frameworks that the above quote mentions. My system used to have them, but a trojan corrupted them. Don't worry, I made sure to remove what was left of them as preparation for re-installing them. My question is this. There are 2 versions of 4.0, so which one should I install? Also, when there is a choice, do you recommend a Standalone Installer version or a Web Installer version? .NET Framework 4 Full .NET Framework 4 Client Profile
  8. I tried searching for .net, but the search said that there was no results, which is wrong. I found a few with .net in the name after searching for framework.
