I turned filters on & off in AdBlockPlus 2.3.2 (extension addable to FF28.0),

but couldn't replicate the exact problem you are seeing in the full editor box

(reached via More Post Options webpage button).

I would suggest the cause is some filter in that, or a similar extension - so

trying to narrow down the offending item is just a slog of on/offs to be tried,

in likely programs (does Norton filter things nowadays?).

 

If using AdBlockPlus, besides the URL filters in effect (sometimes confusing

if you have a combination of various URL filter exceptions also active), don't

forget there is also a 'section heading' in the Filter Preferences called 'Filter

Subscriptions', which may have additional filters from a subscription service

(ticked) activated by default (although I think it is unlikely any subscription

service filter would be the culprit).

 

As to the 'double listings' you described, that's just what you see when

those avatar icons are filtered - some filter affecting 'gravatar com', I'd say.

JorgeA, perhaps try posting in Verizon forums if that's possible, (as mentioned

in post #174), for Verizon to whitelist msfn's IP address, 74.86.39.114 , as

SORBS still has that IP address blacklisted (http://www.sorbs.net/lookup.shtml),

and suggest to Verizon forum moderators that if Verizon uses the SORBS email

blocklist, that Verizon should STOP using SORBS as one of the input sources

for Verizons' email spam blocklist.

All Aok then - I should note that the 'Change Theme' text and link doesn't

always appear for everyone - for instance, I can't recall when I have ever

had it appear on msfn webpages that the msfn server has served to me,

until I carried out some of the actions in my last post, when thereafter it

magically started appearing.

The mobile view was surprizing, in that it was somewhat difficult to easily

navigate in the members control panel (and subheadings therein), due to

the absence of hard links on the mobile view webpages.

It could be figured out with a little perserverance - but I fear some members

may become exasperated too quickly ( xper may need to look at remedying

this...if say, they couldn't get into their notification preferences easily.)

@5eraph, try deleting any cookie that you may have previously got from msfn
(e.g. in Firefox 28, Tools-Options-Privacy-Remove individual Cookies).
THEN go to msfn OR Refresh the msfn page you are viewing, and see if "Change
Theme" has appeared in the bottom left of the page. If it is seen, and if nothing

happens when you click on it (except the page merely appears to jump up to

the top of the page) then try ensuring that nothing is blocking access to URL;

http://ajax.googleapis.com

(such as ad-blocking software/plug-ins or hosts file)

then Refresh the msfn page you are viewing.
If "Change Theme" is still not seen, then try closing all msfn pages, then delete

any msfn cookies, then go to this URL; http://www.botsvsbrowsers.com/SimulateUserAgent.asp
and input a User Agent of, oh, say;
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows Phone 8.1; ARM; Trident/7.0; Touch; rv:11.0; IEMobile/11.0; NOKIA; Lumia 520) like Gecko

Click 'Send Request' and fill in the required characters in the seen verification box,
then click "Submit Query".
After the msfn page appears in the box, sign-in as per normal, then see if "Change
Theme" has appeared at the bottom of that page. Click it, then click "IP.Board
Mobile", and before you leave the msfn pages, click "Full Version" at the page
bottom.
Now whenever you visit msfn, you should (hopefully always) see the choice of
"Change Theme" on an msfn page.

@tomasz86 try the above - but be aware, if you can't actually see the bottom of
your visited webpages (per your screenshot in post #188), well, this seems to
be a known fault with Windows Phone 8 on Nokia Lumia... at present;

Just in regard to the embedded ad links (ads links that are associated with

keywords {which appear with 'double underlining'} in forum pages).

One explanation for this is that your ad-blocking software is set to deactivate

upon webpages that have a partial URL pattern e.g. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php... etc.

(that is, forum webpages used for making a 'Reply' or 'Edit' or 'Preview' post)

but is activated on partial URL patterns of e.g. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/... etc.

(so the ad-blocking software reactivates when viewing forum posts).

I myself have my ad-blocking software set to deactivate (upon those forum

webpages used) when making a 'Reply' or 'Edit', simply because the ad-blocking

software prevents the full editor appearing (yes!, I could remedy this, but I have

never bothered to chase down what/which filter I have set in the ad-blocking

software that kills the full editor).

Both their Admin and their Tech (identical) email addresses @stardock.com

(as shown on neowin.net WHOIS prior to its revocation) failed the check

because their email server replied to the check with "Quota exceeded

(mailbox for user is full)"

Entirely possible - that particular email address belongs to a busy guy

(who continues to use that particular email address for the WHOIS details

on a number of other Domains).

For the rest of us, (and especially anyone whose email address is listed

on a WHOIS), its worth mentioning that a 'full mailbox' reply may be caused

by failing to empty the Trash and/or Spam folders (email account plan may

include these when calculating the account 'email quota').

Also, if you have an email account plan that bundles 'other services', those

other services may count towards and/or affect your 'email quota'. Here's an

Well, no: - I'd suggest aviv00's avatar displays as it does due to the

reason I put forward - the Board software can't find it.

The link I gave appears to be in the correct format the Board uses -

so the data (GIF) is no longer retrievable.. ( ...mmm, I should allow

we could theorize other possible causes - the Board requires that

avatars are to be a maximum of 100x100 pixels, 100Kb, non-animated,

etc., maybe certain of those requirements have changed over the

refuses to serve the data[?] .)

You appear to keep a record of past MSFN webpages saved in a

complete format, all pics, css, etc. . Are these merely 'fault' webpages,

or do you have access to an offline older copy of the database?

(This seems possible, I recall Xper posted an offhand remark several

years ago about the size of the database [i can't remember the exact

size, but it was around the 600-700MB range], so perhaps recent size

could fit on a DVD?) - I will understand if you prefer not to reply to this

particular question...

I'm aware of the seldom seen condition you are referring to, (I believe

only encountered with certain ~2007 and earlier Board members) -

the sections normally displaying Country, OS and Member Title info

simply do not exist for certain members (apparently these sections

did not exist or existed in a different format or were never previously

populated since earlier IPB versions, and later version updates have

not created or populated these sections [with the default entries] for

certain earlier members). An example is member $ Dolla-Bill $

I don't recall any instance of any member not having an avatar section -

I believe the Board software always tries to display something in every

members avatar section.

(I've encountered a few other instances where the display of a members

avatar is, er, faulty.)

Regarding aviv00's avatar, I should have instead described his

avatar as 'lost'. The underlaying link for his avatar appears to be;

which returns a 404: Not Found .

Presumably, whatever he uploaded into the database in the past has

since gone to 'Digital Heaven'. He is obviously not fussed about it,

displaying a red 'x' where his avatar ought to be).

OK, I think I've got a handle on this now...

(After looking at how Gravatars work;

Board (in this case IPB, possibly with add-ons) software causes a

hash to be done of a piece of user unique information (probably the

email address), sends this info to Gravatar server, who reply with a

URL for the gravatar avatar pic to be served from if the hash matches

one held in their database, - if the hash doesn't match then the

(Gravatar?) server redirects so the request is served from a default

URL, and the Board server sends HTML to your browser with URL's

as seen, similar to this;

I think Vini 'shot from the hip without thinking' - actually, pretty much

every one of those blocked avatars isn't a unique avatar chosen by

those users... it's just the MSFN default user avatar that is shown if

users haven't chosen something other than the default... yep, the

MSFN default avatar is a Gravatar avatar...

As at this posts' date, a whois for www.neowin.net displays, within the

three relevant email address fields (Registrant, Admin, Tech), two unique

email addresses.

I'm not on Neowin, (pity) - the question I'd be interested in - did ICANN

neowin's Registrar, 'Domain.com, LLC',

send their queries to every listed email address in Neowin's recorded Whois

details, or only to the email address listed for the 'Registrant'?

More interestingly, did neowin's Registrar send an informing email to

their other WHOIS listed email address(es), informing that one of their

WHOIS email addresses had failed to validate?

of (for MSFN) - not having the same email address for all three fields or

deficiencies in the Postal Address?
