A friend of mine gave me a DVD the other day and taking a closer look at it, it looks like someone followed Flyakite's guide to a tee. I'm pretty sure I found the directory where XP's install is housed. My question is, if I remove that, will it break the (CD)'s capability to boot / do other functions?

Dear MSFN: Is there a way to build a CD-ROM that only has the drivers and installs them / extracts them (preferably while in Windows, not part of the setup process...) ?

I really didn't think OS would be an issue. XP, SP1. nLITED beyond belief; and Sneaky's driverpack installed.

What's what i"m saying -- I can't do that, I can't view the dependencies. I must have removed something by accient. It also causes various security scans to fail, and other application errors.

Dear MSFN: What service / control is responsible for the retreival of another service's dependencies? In other words, what service or program is required to be able to look at what a service relies on? I think I removed something I shouldn't have because I recieve errors such as "The dependency or group failed to start..." etc. etc. I get the same errors when trying to do security scans, and the like... Any help would be apprecitated... Thanks! EDIT: Come on. somebody has to know what i removed, or what cuases that issue. I think it may be the reason why some apps fail on me, but I odn't know what it would be.

I know I haven't messed up anything yet -- I was just wondering about the DriverSigningPolicy thing; because it's rather annoying and defeats the purpose of an unattended install. But I know it does work because the system I tested it on; it noticed all devices without a problem. I used Method 2.

When trying my new build and the DriverPack, I keep getting those Uncertified Driver(s) prompts; how do I fix that? I thought the driver pack would ignore those prompts automatically; or do I have to make edits to WinNT.sif?

I've already used DP on the only copy of my unattended install I have. Even if nLITE corrupts the DP install, couldn't I do it again afterward?

After applying the Driver Pack; if I attempt to use nLITE to slim down my disc even more, will it cause any problems with the driver pack, or will I just have to re-slipstream the drivers again ? The only reason I'm worried is because this is the first time I've ever really noticed that TXTSETUP file; and realized how big / important it is for system setup; but I've never really touched the file / messed with it. One other quick question... what are the c_870.nls files used for; and in the TXTSETUP.SIF file, what exactly is the meaning of all the numbers/ commas ? setup / usage for extracting it? thanks!

I'm not planning to use XPE. I'd have to re-write the documentation; andI don't want to do that. Not to mention, I have what i want working 0-- spyware removal tools. Anybody got any good suggestions how to present it to other IT Crew Members that will be working with it, OR giving more training in it?

As far as the temp files, that's a great link right there. I will try that out and get back to you. As far as HijackThis! / CWS: I got CWS to work by downloading the plugin again, and replacing the EXE. I was also hoping to see if I could get About:Buster to work, but that was to no avail. I have RunScanner; but Hijackthis just still doesn't want to work. I would assume something with the registry or *.DLL linking. As far as that goes, staff around here informed me it's OK to leave HijackThis! out of the build. I'm almost done, but as you said: always evolving. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

Reguardless of the browser, I know where those temp files are. It's just getting ONE easy to use *.BAT to find the username for the temp files. IE: X:\Documents and Settings\USERACCOUNTNAMEHERE\Temp or Temporary Internet Files. That's the issue; there's no way to go directly to a given user without knowing the name. I don't want to make people using this CD to have to navigate manualyl to delete these files.

Dear MSFN: Long time no see! I've been trying to setup a bootable Windows PE Disk using BartPE; and have a probelm trying to get HijackThis! and CWShredder to work properly. I can get CWShredder to work properly if I copy the file to the local file-system's system32 directory that I am working on. Otherwise, it doesn't work too well -- not to mention it's somewhat sloppy to do. On a side note, is there any way that I can make a *.bat that will delete the temporary files for internet users? As far as I know, in a windows enviroment, %temp% will go straight to that directory for a logged on user. In BartPE; %temp% goes to B:\ (RAMDisk) Any solutions / help would be appreciated!

Is it possible? If so, what can you change and how ? Any links would be appreciated also. Should turn out interesting. Then maybe now I can finally finished my unattended install; eventhough I never use Help & Support.

I looked at that *.img file and find it identical to the one I have so there's no reason for me to use it. Unless I'm missing something. Perhaps I should actually use Nero or whatever else ya'll use to build your bootable DVDs / CDs. I currently use DropToCD (DataCD; a light, awesome program!) to burn my CDs and DVDs; and totally forgot it supports bootable images. I've tried a number of different ones but none work. *sigh* Should I give up ? EDIT: and to answer your question blinktd; I don't have a zip drive attached. :|

I've tried this a number of times; and on a previous post someone mentioned it was a corrupt boot image file. If I'm not mistaken the file should be xpboot.bin (or *.img) and a size of 2 KB. Anyone who why this would be a problem for me? This is practically the last thing holding up my unattended install; and disappointing that after so many tries I still can't get it right (or follow directions). Any help would be appreciated.

I might try that, thanks for the suggestion. I've replaced most the files now. The only things I can't find are the files that are for Office XP -- for some reason; my CD I copied the files from DOESN"T have those files. The mysteries never cease. :| The funny thing is I still get excited each time I am so close to finishing this; yet disappointed when it doesn't boot.

The file-size is not zero-bytes -- the file size is the actual file's size. (ie WINNT32U.DLL being 1.19 MB) The reason why these blank files "annoy" me is because, if they are "blank" they thus create problems, ie, the installation doesn't work. Suprised that wasn't obvious already.

I've posted this problem before but still have this problem. I don't know what causes it but various files on my Win XP Unattended DVD appear to blank. Ie, when I move a file; eg *.dll into notepad to see if anything appears atleast ASCII, nothing does. I don't get it. Integral files such as WINNT32A.DLL WINNT32U.DLL WINNTBBA.DLL Appear blank! Has ANYBODY had this problem before? I still don't understand what would cause it. I need help, or atleast a program or solution to find blank files! (Search doesn't seem to find these files for some odd reason) Any help would be apperciated. This is the about the fifth time this type of problem has occured, the second topic I"ve created about it.

Don't know of any good ones, but a great program to run your own would be Etlin HTTP Proxy. http://www.eternallines.com/httpproxy/ That may help someone else run a proxy for you if you need it. ?

Well it's straight from unattended.msfn.org so I doubt it's in any way corrupt. The only thing I can think of is the application that emulates the operating system like virtual PC or VMWare. The only files that weren't touched were files like visual basic 6 that wasn't called in my start.cmd file... Personally that's the only thing I can think of. Not to mention autlogon.reg, cmdlines.txt, regtweaks.reg etc were intact. (The files in $OEM$). Anyway. If anyone else has had this problem, or knows a solution, please let me know. Other than that, it wasn't too bad of a pain copying NAV2K3, ZAPro and Paint Shop. Thanks for the reply prathapml!
