Moving ALL From %UserProfile% to %AllUserProfile%
a06lp replied to a06lp's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I ran the above, and all shortcuts were copied (not folders or in-use files, which is fine, because none of those will be there on first boot) from the desktop. as far as the start menu - all links were copied, and then deleted from UserProfile, BUT the directories remain... However, this code copies everything, the removes the entire UserProfile start menu: XCOPY /S /H /R /Y "%UserProfile%\Desktop" "%AllUsersProfile%\Desktop\" XCOPY /S /H /R /Y "%UserProfile%\Start Menu" "%AllUsersProfile%\Start Menu\" DEL /S /Q "%UserProfile%\Desktop\*.lnk" RD /S /Q "%UserProfile%\Start Menu\" Now everything is managable, and in one place. -
i'll report back after i do my next install. any suggestions for the other tweaks mentioned?
-
ok, now i have the setup files (do i really need em ALL?!) i'll try the silent install tomarrow.

i think the links on the bottom aren't working. -
I can't extract the exe... when I right click, I don't get the option to extract (I have winRAR, and I gte the option when it's possible). Also, I check the registry for my Key, and in all the Vegas folders, but apparently the registration isnt there?(!!)

Hi, I'm trying to move (From %UserProfile% to %AllUserProfile%): -All menus, submenus, and shortcuts from Start Menu -All Shortcuts from Desktop Basically, I don't want anything in the %UserProfile% folders of Start Menu and Desktop, when all my programs finish installing. I want it all in %AllUserProfile%. The problem is that ONLY the desktop *.lnk files are moving, but NOTHING ELSE. Not even the regular .lnk files in the Start Menu (and not submenus either). Am I doing something wrong? This is my batch file:
-
when i tested it, they were later - during runonceex. does that matter? i just converted to the cmdlines.txt method (for my future CD's). does this matter? are the codes correct? what about the ones im missing?
-
^bump^ some help, please?
-
i just read the tutorial, seemed pretty straightforward... 1) create cmdlines.txt, calling regtweaks.reg [COMMANDS] "REGEDIT /S RegTweaks.reg" 2) put both cmdlines.txt, and regtweaks.reg in $OEM$ right? I plan to test this on my next install... (just did one today, and dont want to go through all of it again until theres more to test)
-
no 3rd party stuff. ALL windows-tweaking stuff (IE, start menu, disabling services, etc.)
-
should regtweaks be the first thing installed? or does windows need time after logon to build the registry, and therefore it should be last?
-
... one more try?

WPI_2.7_Final by the Brain & Gresh
a06lp replied to bishooman's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Ok, I have never used a standard RunOnceEx, so I'm not sure what is supposed to happen...but: When I use WPI (2.6), after I select my programs to install, the "Windows Update" window pops up, and the background is a blueish/greyish (because windows has not "loaded"). However, in the middle of installation of the list of programs, the actual background loads (the "Bliss" bg, with the green hills...), and then the Start Menu/Taskbar/System Tray all load as well. Shouldn't this all WAIT until WPI finished installing everything?! When using RunOnceEx (not WPI), does it wait until all programs are installed to actually finish "loading"? -
ok, i had tested my cd before, but this time i added ALL the apps (using WPI_2.6). Mostly, things went well. But, as expected, there were some problems: 1) My regtweaks were applied, but some of the tweaks didn't work: 1a) classic start menu code incorrect? It worked after a reboot, but not originally.... ;Classic Start Menu [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoSimpleStartMenu"=dword:00000001 1b) default DETAILS view (now its TILES). No matter where I put it, it runs too early. (RunOnceEx, Start Menu\Startup, winnt.sif) I need the files to remain until WPI is totally done, and every method manages to delete the folders while they are being installed. Any solutions? Or are there any Application-Selection tools (like WPI) that run EARLIER?

do both work for ALL machines? I need to be able to install this program on ANY computer. can that work?
-
so is it built in to SP2? if not, do i need it? cuz my programs seems to install just fine without it. (unless i have it? how do i test if i have it?)
-
@Bâshrat the Sneaky I know that much, but I wanted to know if it matters at all for stability? No? @Lucius Snow ".NET framework"? i dont even know what that is, do i need it? i dont think i have it now, and everything installs...
-
how do i save my settings (download dir, perform on-connect), etc. in mIRC 6.14 so i can just copy them over after installation?
-
Is there some kind of guide / list of which programs should be installed first, middle, last, etc. following a clean install on WinXP-SP2 ? I want to know in terms of stability, and such. I was wondering if it was maybe better to install some programs before other programs? Maybe larger programs first? Because I am installing nearly 30 programs, and would like to know the best order to go about doing that? Anyone have a better answer to this?
-
ok, i sent you a PM
-
i saw them, i just wasnt sure if i needed em all or not. ok, thanks!
-
how do i silently execute a sfx exe file? also, what does that reg setting do?
-
huh? is this a path? shouldnt it be something like: %systemdrive%\install\applications\sysreset\sysreset.exe /s or something similar? how do i use the things you posted? also, what kind of registry settings should i export? which key?
-
i'm not sure if this is a regtweak or not. i need to stop xp2's security warnings. for example, when trying to silently install ad-aware, i get a message about whether to run it or not, because the source was not verified. how do i stop these warnings, so i dont get the messages (i want it the way it was before sp2, but i need my firewall to stay on)
