  1. Well im sorry if I did not understant TOTALY but you know what? I'm not in your shoes, and you should know better that it's impossible to get a real grasp at what was the real intention of somebody when they speak. And in the best of my knowledge, I put myself in your shoes and realised based on your arguments, that following a question about why using nlite... you where only downing every argument one after another. I simply gave you a complete answer about why you should use nlite, but it you have other programs doing the same thing great for you, you don't need it, and then don't use it. But don't come and say I'm a morron...

Cause you did not understant enough either what I was saying, because I was only trying to answer a question you asked about why nlite was usefull (the exact question was about the benefits of using nlite beside components removal, and you just didn't seem like you wanted to see it's usefull for many thing at many levers for many people, not only admins.... simply because "there is other ways to do it...".

Even if it's useless and only for fun, if a noob want to have an unattended cd, with nothing else than plain windows xp gold and no components removed. well go for it for all I care... the program served it's purpose. End of skepticism, question answered, then the choice is yours to use it or some other program (cause there is always other ways to do it) and you seem like you've made yours... good for you!

  2. Since I got a dvdwriter, I don't even bother with driver integration and go with BTS's full set of driverpacks. Those are great!

But still, whenever the need to have an unattended windows cd comes, even if it's not filled with apps and stuff, at least installing with SP2 slipstreamed and the most current hotfixes is a must nowadays, adding an AV soft with current virus dev is also not bad with all those worms and stuff out there.

oogh... i like when people get into flames.....

i am a nlite user also an nlite tester....but i will not try to bring any arguments for using it or not...

cause i belive in FREE WILL>>>>

Next time I'll put more smileys everywhere.... :thumbup

  3. Ok I know this usually happens around new years eve, but in computer electronics new 2006 programs happen everyday. So here is a place for you to share what's new, what's coming. just to build a little hype.

First, wel all know what OS is coming in 2006...

    Office 12 is preparing

Symantec released AV10 this summer, Norton and Systemworks 2006 should be on their way if they are not already there.

What else? I'd like to know what new program version 2006 you are waiting for!

  4. I'm not a fan, in fact I haven't used nlite for a year before this weekend cause I didn't need to do a UA cd. I just hate when people say things they don't really know and try to "understand" while putting down what does not confirm their beliefs. I know it looks like a big argument but it's just a side effect of being a philosophy student. I learned to do a structured and well knit argumentation (or at least I try to most of the time).

A fanatic would force everyone to use nLite, and that's not at all what I said. :) Unless you can find me that bible page with the 11th commandment, "Thou Shalt use Nlite to Honour your God"

  5. Ee... where do I start

First for someone opened and only wishing to understand, you seem pretty stiff and closed minded on why nobody should use nlite. And you got a lot of things wrong cause you never even tried it.

First of all, any person using nLite should inderstand at first how do to an UA cd... there's a manual for that and the manual is not nLite oriented. So YES there is other ways to do the same thing without nLite... SO WHAT?

Now you say oh I use this and that, use deloy tools for the unattended part blablabla.... nLite does the same exact thing with 5 clicks of a mouse so why bother splistreaming SP2 with long commands in command-prompt, or integrate hotfixes manually, or even writing your own winnt.sif. nLite is a time saver here.

And now the main point.... you seem so frustrated and OH MY GOD WHY REMOVE COMPONENTS WHEN ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE bouhouhou you are crazy mofos for wanting that... Take a deep breath, stick your nose out of your a** and THINK! Don't you think nuhi didn't thought about that? Did you at least used nlite once to realise the critical stuff you need to use other components are MARKED IN RED so unless you are stupid, or want to test some experimental feature, you better stick with removing what you KNOW will not break your OS. It's not because the option to remove component is there that this is an obligation to use. For my part I only remove windows messenger and guided tour!

So in résumé, nlite is a great program to do something other programs can do. It is fast and easy to use for anyone with a basic in making ua cds. You have lot of customisation options, you can remove components and add tweaks and patches BUT NOBODY FORCES YOU DO TO SO! I used the tweaks to reduce the size of my tweaks.reg file (and to be sure I don't double tweak the same thing). As for patches you so call hacks. Except for the winntbbu.dll and the tcp which are real patches, everthing else i'm sure is a function microsoft knowingly implemented, like if bill gates wanted the adds when he installs xp... like if any microsoft IT installed microsoft with the GUI to "learn" about movie maker 2...

Being skeptical is not a bad thing, like when someone tells you he saw jesus at the grocery store, or that he invented the best antivirussoftware ever but can only show it in videoconference. Doubt is not bad. But here you don't seem like someone who doubts, you seem like someone who doesn't want to accept the idea that there is not only HIS way of doing things, yes you can use only one program to do the same job, yes you can use nlite without removing harmful components and yes it IS faster to do a ua cd with nlite than without. Try it, test it, and THEN complain about it.

Oh and I don't have many computers, and I still must add something. Ghosting multiple pc is a good solution IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PC!!! Like in a school where all labs have computers bought in batch with all the same pieces in it. You can ghost windows from one clean install onto everyother computer and yes it's faster than installing. But this is not always the case, some companies bought 5 computers one year, 5 more 2 years later, than 7 more last years, and 3 kickass top of the top computers this year. How do you want to ghost all those 20 computers that do not have the same specs, parts, drivers, etc. Your answer is a short view one, intended to give yourself the point in the argumentation. But again,if you stick your head out of your a** and look around there is NOT ONLY YOU AND YOUR LITTLE PERSON. If nlite is useless to you, if you prefer to clone your pcs because you can do so, FINE, go for it. But I'm really skeptical about the pseudo-"arguments" you gave in trying to put down nlite, while calling this "understanding"

    Cheers B)

  6. It happened again!

    Ok, I have NetLimiter 1.30, dc++ 0.674, winamp5 and msn 7.5 opened, with SAV9 running.

I lost my AT key again. Here is the problem

    #1234567890-= normal

    |!"/$%?&*()_+ shift key

\_____¬¦²³_½¾ AltCar key, the _ are the malfunctionning key numbers (123450)

Anyone else experienced this with the same softwares???

  7. I just can't wait to buy a new computer, unfortunately I'll stick with mine for at least 3 years I hope. But as soon as I have 2 boxes, I'm sure gonna try and fool around with Linux. Except for what everyone already said on pros and cons, I think Linux would be more popular if they had less versions. It sure is an advantage of open source cause things develop faster and can be better when everyone does his part. But it can also become confusing with the version number, what you have installed, how it was coded, and this applies to each and every Linux "brand".... So in the end, for the average user who would like to try Linux, just starting up can be painful. I heard about RedHat, there is also EduLinux... if I had a computer right now I wouldn't now which one to chose in the begining.

But I'm not closing the Linux door, this looks promising and will be even more as the product becomes better and easier to use. And who can't fall for that cute pinguin anyway!!

  8. I am walking, take my bike and use the bus. Anyway it's my mom's car so except for the grocery it's not necessary.

But do you REALLY KNOW WHY GAS IS HIGH???

They always tell us about the barrel's price, and how OPEP lowered or augmented the production. But the actual crisis is not one about offer!!! The reason the prices went so high are the SPECULATORS!!! They justify their analysis with FEAR. Fear of what? Terrorrist attack after saudi king died, price go high, fear of maybe loosing a platform because of Katrina, price go high, fear of this, fear of that, fear that the rafineries stocks are low... Everything is a good reason to fear, and everyone runs at the stock market to buy buy buy at the hightest price. THAT'S WHY THE PRICES ARE HIGH.

The prices are artificially augmented by fear among the buyers, fear they like to keep cause even if they have to by their barrel at 70$ they know they will send the bill all the way down to us. STOP SPECULATION. Does anyone remember what 1929 was? A HUGE ECONOMICAL CRISIS because of the speculation, all the market was inflated and one day, everyone panicked, fear was too high and everyone wanted their money back and the market CRASHED. We don't want this to happen to gas cause yes it will be cheaper, but think about all the jobs lost in the petroleum industry, and in the car industry. We should just be reasonable, and think about a limited profit, a regulated pump price, and other measures to keep things away from both extremes.

  9. I want to know how search engines work?I mean they can read the text in each site of the net,it can cache it :}

Can we make one of our own using some script or some server requirement or anything ?

    Please tell

Different search engines work differently. try a search on google about that and you'll get a lot of explanation im pretty sure.

And yes you can code one on yourself, just like google did. You only need a server, a couple of IT tech guys, KNOW HOW SEARCH ENGINES WORK, programmation knowledge and a couple hundred of thousand dollars.

  10. I use Tag&Rename since I got mp3s, easy to use, works with batch, you can save your custom rules for mp3 "understanding" of the file name and all is done with variable... %1 = artist %2 = title etc. So whenever I get an untagged mp3 that looks like this 06.Slayer--Angel_of_Death - Compilation_tgm.mp3, I can easily tag the entire album in less than 2 seconds by telling the program to scan it using %6.%1--%2 - %3-%9 and everything is ok, even the rippers initials go in the comments tag.

And I heard the next release will have de cddb support too.... Just went to the website, this is not infopub but just copy paste for the lazy ones out here

    Supports

    . mp3 - ID3v1.1, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.2 and ID3v2.4tags

    . mpc, mp+, monkey’s audio, wav pack,

optim frog - APE tags, APEv2 tags

. Windows Media (wma, asf and wmv files)

. ogg, flac - vorbis comment tags

. Apple iTunes aac (m4a and m4p) and mp4 files

    ALSO

Tag&Rename supports many additional tag fields including lyrics, cover art, rating, mood, disc #, classical music fields (Composer, Conductor, etc.), file related URL's and so on. With Tag&Rename, you can

automatically fix and complete file tags using online freedb database,

load titles and cover art from amazon.com server,

get tags data from file names and its folders

    structures,

rename your music files and folders according to its music information in a batch,

    create play lists,

export files information to CSV, HTML, XML and text formats and more.

For all those reasons, I never tried another tagging program. But it's an interesting topic and will definitely try the free MP3Tag and all the others submited here!

  11. Anyway, I'll wait for Allanoll's msi as usuall!

Don't forget to change all the version numbers this time :P And keep your good work man. I know school's starting back soon (1 week left for me!) so I hope you will have some time to work on the msi.

I just never learned any other way of installing winamp with all the settings, what would I do without you! :thumbup

  12. Thanks a lot for replying and being nice! At least it bumped this topic a couple of time

I will try to stay aware about what software I installed IF it ever happens again on my desktop.

But please people if this ever happened to you, drop a line :)

  13. Is your laptop also supposed to be a french keyboard configuration? I don't think that you'll need to format to fix that.

    Link

Yeah but that's not the problem.. it only happened cause I formated this morning and was too quick to test the @ key... didn't check if I was in French (Canada) and I was in Canadian Multilingual Standard... but on my laptop I'm in French (Canada) too. It's not like if the language was temporarily changing. All the keyboard layout stays the same it's just that some Alt-Car keys ONLY stop working. Not only AltCar-2 but also 3,4,5 and 8 if I remember correctly.

And when this happens, I still can use those keys normally with shift and ctrl, but not with Alt-Car

  14. NetLimiter was only a hint like that, I don't think it's that. It could be bootskin or maybe SAV with Nero VisionExpress... Just hoped somebody else would have experienced this cause I don't have all the same programs on both of my computer so maybe a name would pop that I too have installed on both computers.

As for my desktop, it was the language not set to the right french keyboard configuration, so it didn't technically happened yet. But still, i'd like to know cause I do not want to format my laptop at the moment.

Thanks a lot for you replies. And I'll remember never to install NAV with InCD :D

  15. How hard do you abuse your keyboard? I've had a keyboard that's laying around the house that I've had since we got our first 486 and it's perfectly fine.

I am very nice and had the same keyboard for 5 years, but the problem persists with the new one i bought, and happens on my laptop too, all started during the summer

If the problem happens even with new keyboards, then I'd look into a motherboard problem.

As strange as it sounds, I don't believe my 2 motherboards on 2 different computers (different boards and manufacturers and cpu too...) would do the exact same bug.

I don't really think that it's "normal" for keys to wear out on a laptop more than any other keyboard. Manufacturers usually test their key mechanisms for many more presses than you or I will ever type on the machines.

I agree, but this is the kind of useless responses I got until now... this, and "change your keyboard"

If you get a chance, test the keyboard in another computer to see if the same thing happens. At least then you'll be able to better pinpoint the problem.

Didn't try the keyboards on another computer, but tested 2 keyboards on my desktop (old and new one) and don't forget my laptop which is also affected.  Also, everything goes back fine when I reboot.  And I just formated and still got the bug.

My guess is that it could maybe be software related. That's why I asked if anyone using NetLimiter or daemontools had this problem too, cause it was the only loaded programs after my first boot in windows anyway. And I installed NetLimiter this summer... when the bug started, and netlimiter is also present on my laptop... maybe it's not netlimiter itself but just to show it's more complex and subtle than it looks.
