  1. Hello, i have G:\MoviesHD and H:\MoviesHD and i would like to have both these folders viewable as one. I tried creating .library-ms for it, but it works only in explorer, unfortunately. Is there some universal alternative? Or at least one for total commander. Read only access is enough and i don't care if result would be drive or folder. I tried winmount, but it don't update content automatically. EDIT: i found DFS, but dfs server can not be set up on windows 7

  4. I know that i don't need it, but i tought it would be more "clean" to use it, but as i tried it with ctrl+shift+f2 and saw what it really is i now don't see a point in using it. BTW i found that thread before i asked, but i still did not understand how it works, because reseal is set to audit (i also looked on reaseal info on technet), but then in auditmode there is no boot(sysprep) to oobe.
  5. Is there a way to get rid of "preparing your desktop" during firstlogoncommands and replace it with ie. xplode? I know i could probably just add it to runonce in registry in firstlogoncommands, but i would like to have it before taskbar etc. shows.
  6. I'm still not clear about audit and oobe modes of installation - if i set up user in auditmode (audituser pass), will the same user and its data visible in oobemode?

  8. Helo, is it possible to define automatic user cration, but at the same time have have prompt to enter machine name in oobe, or even better at setup begining? I used to have this set up in custom RIS page in XP, but now i would like this to be in setup on windows7 installation on USB stick. I still wonder if is it possible to put dialog to choose computer name in winPE phase - it would definitely be timesaver.
  9. No, it is not woking just by adding administrator to localusers in autounattended.xml. I just tried it, if it does for you, then attach example xml please.
  10. Hmm, i does not work, obviously, so i will just leave it and don't make default user settings in unattended installation.
  11. Ok, one more thing before i try it - does this http://support.microsoft.com/?id=284193 still work in windows 7? This will be nice solution - i would just put script to runonce to HKCU_USERS and no need to attend and run scripts manually when new user log on for first time will be needed.
  12. I tought about putting script to setupcomplete.cmd? But i'm to lazy to try it. But i guess, that since you mention only NTUSER.DAT, that somebody already tried it withouth success.
  13. How to unattendedly apply regtweaks for default user, so that every created user preferably including default administrator will inherid HKCU registry from default user?

Or you can use old trick (this is from old xp unattended guide here) put installmedia.txt on your installation medium FOR %%i IN (D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z) DO IF EXIST %%i:\installmedia.txt SET intallmedia=%%i:then you get root of media in %intallmedia% in batch script run anytime after installation So this way you can avoid unnecessary coping intallation files to system drive

  16. I did some research and tries and i beginning to understand AIK, but i still did not find way to run my installer for applications after install.wim is installed on HDD and windows is booted for first time. Preferably i would like to run it as default user.

Hello, i'm new to making of win 7 unattended installation and i'm quite perfectionist - i don't like third party tools like nlite/vlite etc. So what are possibilities to make custom installation? I found out: 1. third party tools that i don't know how do they work (i think they are altering install image file to do some stuff after first run?) - i can see that these are much more preferred now than it was in XP times, when there was still many user seeking for "pure" way 2. custom installation file - i don't like this way since that will probably still left some crap content in image and then in installed system any other way i missing?

But now i want at last take my chance contacting them. I have a few thing that bothers in windows regarding its media support.

    UPDATE: so now i found it still add file location on hardrive on its own, even if you set up hidden share with $ at the end and mout it as mapped network drive. Also it don't read library from winmount drive, so i gave up.

    Well i'm still interested in symlinks ... generally, i know that even if i share readonly symlink as hidden share with $ at the end, mount it as mapped network drive, ms can still found out that it is shared symlink and get location from where it is linked and destroy files in it again . ISO method is not very nice for updating, but some third party utility that would made fake readonly drive from directory would be usable. EDIT: i found software called winmount, it cost 50USD, i'm trying it now and it seams that it is supposed to do what i want in commandline mode with -NoWriteback switch, is there any free alternative? EDIT2: i got it to work, their help is crap but after some googling i found out that correct syntax is -NoWriteback:TRUE, now: is there some free alternative? EDIT3: i managed to get results i wanted with winmount (mounting network shares from local computer ...), but then i noticed it don't update virtual drive when i add/delete files "master" drive from what the virtual one is created. BTW except for updates you can make unionFS like thing with it!!!

    Hello, i have some hardware gadget that i really like and because it is tight integrated with wmp12 and its services and who-know-what-that-windows-media-stuff is. So because i like to use it i need to use wmp and to be true, it is really good player for me, when it comes to it's library etc. But it is still bitchy(sorry) old Microsoft thing that acts like mallware(again - sorry) and i hate when i touches my music files and mostly folder.jpg. So in vista i simply crated readonly share \\pc\music from my c:\music added it to library and i was happy, no bad stuff happened, everything worked, wow! Now in it's latest version (12) Microsoft seriously looked at my case, saw that i seriously f*cked(i'm not good at english and i don't know how to write it better) up with them and they did not destroyed my folder.jpg files and other. So when i happily added \\pc\music in windows7, wmp12 SECRETLY changed it to c:\music by itself and destroyed my folder.jpg files. I don't need to tell you how that p***ed me off, because i only use raid1 as backup solution so i have no second copy of my music library folder. After this i tried other OSs and found out, that SRM7500 (that gadget) don't work in them and since i like it i get back to win7. Since i already lost my high-res covers i experimented with wmp12 some more and i found out that it do not change smb share to folder if i mount it as mapped network drive or if i add $ to it, well i tough so, so to be sure i did both - i created share \\pc\music and added it as mapped network drive net use S: "\\%pcname%\music$" /persistent:yes, then i add S: to library and wmp did not change it to c:\music ... until i rebooted computer, then i found out that i have all files in library twice so i looked into library folders and c:\music was added jet again by itself - well there i must give MS credit for being really, really good at kidding people. Now i basically have options: 1. buy NAS - it would be good for backup too 2. made linux server - building it on windows is quite risky because WMP would probably gain access trough C$ share 3. set security for library folder that everyone including administrators will have only read access and make special account for library management software - it seams to me VERY unconfortable 4. use symlink - that i would like, but i don't know if it is possible I tried to create mklink /D "C:\music_sym_readonly" "C:\music" icacls "f:\music_sym_readonly" setowner administrators /L /T icacls "f:\music_sym_readonly" /inheritance:e /L /T icacls "f:\music_sym_readonly" /grant everyone:® /L /T But this does not set access rights ON and IN subdirectories of symlink. It still have permissions from "C:\music" (real parrent). I think that there is no way to set permission on files and folders "in symlinks". Am i right?

So i made myself VM, crated snapshot with clean install and start experimenting, results are ILOGICAL: Conclusion (if you don't want to read results) - if you know what you want you are like me and have problem that you don't find right software, hardware, shirt, etc. all the time, now it will be same with wmp12. Simply there is currently no way to get excepted results from wmp12 or WMC (both in 32 or 64). BUT you can get subtitles + video + mkv + audio working in both WMC and wmp12 and even in 64bit version of it working - in some twisted illogical ways. I used Win7DSFilterTweaker_1.9.exe for changing prefred WMP12 filters. RESULTS (wmp12 and wmc results are identical): for AVI in wmp12 x86: ffdshow video (ffdv) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali for mkv only: nothing of above mentioned filters loads ffdshow video (ffdv) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali for mkv and avi: nothing of above mentioned filtersloads ffdshow video (ffdv) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali for mkv and avi + vsfilter: haali + ffdv loads < see - very logical and excepted indeed, now it will continute ffdshow video (ffda) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali for mkv only + vsfiler: ffdv + ffda loads divX decoder + ffda + vsfilter: all of the above! and no crapy playback divX decoder + ffda + vsfilter + haali for mkv and avi: (i get crappy playback with this combination like this http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php...ndering_wtf.jpg from divx, but it is probably because of testing enviroment even withouth dx9, only with dx11, old nvidia drivers etc. etc.) divX icon don't shows up (i'm not sure if it is ussed for decoding or not, as i obviously can't see divX logo with disorted playback picture, but i think it is used for for rendering because of that disorted picture), but divx probably loads + ffda + vsfilter + haali I also tried Xvid decoder insted of divX, altrought xvid can't hande h264, divx does - i'm not sure if it really loads as there is no mention of that filter in other ffdshow things in systemtray, nor even in gspot, but there are no DMOs in gspot also, but who know what wmp12 does (i'm not sure if MS do ) for MKV in wmp12 x86: ffdshow video (ffdv) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali: all of the above loads ffdshow video (ffdv) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali + vsfiler: ffdv + ffda + haali loads, no vsfilter for MKV in wmp12 x64: ffdshow video (ffdv) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali + vsfilter: vsfilter crashes the playback for MKV in wmp12 x64: ffdshow video (ffdv) + ffdshow audio (ffda) + haali: all of the above loads i will end it here, bacause i done the testing yesterday and i don't remember other results. Next time i better will write it down. My recomendation is to use vsfilter and DON'T SET IT TO "load always" and to 'hide subtitles' (32 and 64)+ halli for everything except mpeg-ts and avi (32 and 64) + ffdA (32 and 64) set output to direct sound device and make sure "only for spdif" is not checked under it, dissable AC3 decocing + ffdV (32 and 64) + ac3filter (32 and 64). FFdshow currently can't laod subtitles from more there one location eg. C:\subtitles. Or at least i think so, but this way you can get everything working everywhere.

I have three problems with wmp12: 1. windows still prefres 32bit version for opening files from applications (32 or 64 bit applications) 2. i can't find working x64 version of vsfilter/direct vob sub. I have found two versions, non of them work 3. i can't force ffdshow video, ffdshow audio (or ac3filter) to play file content, ms still uses it's default decoders 4. can't add mkvs to library to wmp x64, but it works in 7mc library and it also works in wmp 32bit. I have tried MCDU.exe and Win7DSFilterTweaker_1.9.exe to force ffdshow (or ffdshow video) Here are results that i get: avi in WMP12 x64 with vobsub enabled: don't open file avi in WMP12 x64 without vobsub enabled: ffdshow video - don't load ffdshow audio - don't load vobsub - don't load (obviously) mkv WMP12 x64 without vobsub enabled: ffdshow video - loads ffdshow audio - loads vobsub - don't load i'm quite satisfied with this result, but i don't know how to set up ffdshow subtitles to have same size for different sizes of movies mkv in WMP12 x64 with vobsub disabled: ffdshow video - loads ffdshow audio - loads vobsub - don't load (ofcourse i have "auto load vsfilter" in haali splitter enabled) mkv or avi in MPCHC x64 with all internal filters dissabled and with vobsub enabled: ffdshow video - loads ffdshow audio - loads vobsub - don't load - i think this is weird, but it is possible that it is cuased somehow by mpch's internal vobsub subtitle filter [i think i now know how to use it with mpchc (note to myself: uncheck "auto load subtitles in file>open") and i will give it a try and update results] mkv in WMP12 32bit with vobsub enabled: ffdshow video - don't load - [this was probably cause because i fortgot to switch it in MCDU.exe] ffdshow audio - loads vobsub - loads avi in WMP12 32bit with vobsub enabled: don't open file (!!!) avi in WMP12 32bit withoutout vobsub enabled: ffdshow video - don't load ffdshow audio - don't load vobsub - don't load (obviously) graphstudio64 for avi shows: ffdshow vido + vsfiltr, ffdshow audio - when i try playing file in it it works ok graphstudio64 for mkv shows: ffdshow video + vsfilter, ffdshow audio - when i try playing file in it it works ok mkv in graphstudio 32: ffdshow video + vsfilter, ffdshow audio - when i try playing file in it it works ok avi in graphstudio 32: don't load file - i don't care why ... avi in mft topology editor (i think it shows 32bit only): {5686A0D9-FE39-409F-9DFF-3FDBC849F9F5} + mp3 decoder DMO mkvin mft topology editor (i think it shows 32bit only): can't load mkv Opening video from totalcommander direcetly - only opens in x86, not possible to open in x64 even trough open with .... Opening video from totalcommander x64 menu - opens in x86, it is possible to open in x64 even trough open with, but it don't change default player preference even when i checked "use this application as default" I have tried this: 1. Run %SystemRoot%\System32\unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:64 as an administrator 2. Update any of the values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\wmplayer.exe that contain %ProgramFiles(x86)% to %ProgramFiles%
