1. I've heard that Shareaza is slow connecting, has slow transfer rates, and isn't stable so I have always tended to stay away from it; however, after reading several threads it seems that many people use the client. Is it fast and have a small footprint?
2. There are some catches to me getting a new motherboard. First, I'm upgrading to a faster processor and second, I'm not willing to spend the money on DRAM eventhough it is faster because I am loaded with SDRAM. And finally it must support USB 2.0. If anybody has any suggestions that are not expensive that would help. Thanks!
3. I've been wanting to ask this question for quite some time now. There are several threads that somewhat discuss the topic, but I decided just to be blunt with it. Anyway, do you use Daemon or Alcohol? Why? Which has better features? Ease of use? Thanks!
4. Okay...so I am using eMule Plus, but I have also heard pretty decent reviews for eMule. I'm not really sure what the big difference is except that eMule Plus is "the eye candy" of eMule. So, if anybody could tell me which they use, why, and possibly the difference between the two it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
5. Okay. So I've been searching for the past hour for a place that sells the Epox EP-4B2A motherboard. I have found no resources that even carry it. I need to know where I can buy it, as well as the price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
6. Exactly! My point proven. Thanks!
7. Okay. One of my friends is arguing with me over where is the best place to learn to drive. Country roads or city roads? Furthermore, which is more dangerous?
8. Thanks everyone! I'll reinstall v5 (Full) and filter all the bloat I don't need! @ undeadsoldier: Where can I find more info about this "Minimum XP Project" as well as your CarPC project?
9. I'm sure everybody will agree with me when I say that Winamp's best version was v2 because it was not bloated and had a small footprint. Now whether you like Winamp or not is a whole other story. Anyway, my question to you is which v2 was the best? Let me give you an example if you aren't following me. OldVersion.com has many versions of Winamp available for download, but should I download v2.81, v2.91, v2.95, etc.? Or maybe I should stick with v5.09 Lite? Your response is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
10. Okay, MIDI is at a different frequency than WAVs or MP3s (unless you resample it). Anyway, most WAV to MIDI programs are trial applications; however I found a program called AmazingMIDI that will convert WAV to MIDI. The catch is when converting to MIDI though is that it must be a single instrument. Now, you also said that your phone supports MP3s and that you wanted a "cutter" to shrink the size of the file. This can be done simply by saving the MP3 at a lower bitrate. The lower the bitrate, the less quality you have, but the smaller the size is. It's a catch 22. I'd say if your using it as a ringtone the quality isn't really going to matter so you might as well save it at a low bitrate. I know that dBpowerAMP can do the job. Give it a shot. A small bitrate is really anything less than 64. If you have any problems feel free to ask. Hope this helps!
11. Well, I know for one thing that most cell phones use midi or polyphonic as rings. So, you could find a program that will convert your song to midi and then search for something that lets you upload to your phone. I could try and find you some programs, but I would not be able to test them...
12. WOW! How did you find this!?! My best record is 2166.34m!!!
13. That actually makes perfect sense. I was partial to v2 as well, but for some odd reason just switched to v5. I can't remember, does v2 support Internet Radio/TV? If so, then I might switch back because I think v2 was the fastest and most stable and AOL has made it bloated.
14. @ ack-hh: Why do you use WinAmp v2.79? I'm curious as to why you havn't upgraded to v5 Lite.
15. @ ack-hh: First off I would like to welcome you to the MSFN boards. It is a privilege to have you. If you have any questions please use the search tool provided because most questions have been asked before and have answers to them. Also, please read the forum rules. Now, regarding your post. What a great way to start! Wow, those are some great programs. I have only looked through a couple of them, but I can tell that it is all gold! I especially like attribute changer. Take note, The GUN link appears to be down. I hope to see more from you soon. Once again, welcome to the boards and what a post!
16. I did a quick little search and did not find anything concerning this. Everybody knows that you can change the color of any of your text by highlighting it and going to the color tab and selecting the colors there (Blue, Red, Purple, Orange, Yellow, Gray, and Green). Did you know that there are more colors you can choose from? Here is what you do: 1) Select the text that you want to change the color of. 2) Select a color from the drop-down menu, it doesn't matter which one since we will change it in a minute. I've selected blue, now the text will now have this around it horse where the "horse" is your text. The end result looks like this: horse. 3) To change the color all you have to do is change the value where it says To change it to gold you would replace blue with gold. It would then look like this horse Your end result looks like this: horse. There ya go! Here is a complete list of all the colors you can use: Aliceblue horse Antiquewhite horse Aqua horse Aquamarine horse Azure horse Beige horse Bisque horse Black horse Blanchedalmond horse Blue horse Blueviolet horse Brown horse Burlywood horse Cadetblue horse Chartreuse horse Chocolate horse Coral horse Cornflowerblue horse Cornsilk horse Crimson horse Cyan horse Darkblue horse Darkcyan horse Darkgoldenrod horse Darkgray horse Darkgreen horse Darkkhaki horse Darkmagenta horse Darkolivegreen horse Darkorange horse Darkorchid horse Darkred horse Darksalmon horse Darkseagreen horse Darkslateblue horse Darkslategray horse Darkturquoise horse Darkviolet horse Deeppink horse Deepskyblue horse Dimgray horse Dodgerblue horse Firebrick horse Floralwhite horse Forestgreen horse Fuchsia horse Gainsboro horse Ghostwhite horse Gold horse Goldenrod horse Gray horse Green horse Greenyellow horse Honeydew horse Hotpink horse Indianred horse Indigo horse Ivory horse Khaki horse Lavender horse Lavenderblush horse Lawngreen horse Lemonchiffon horse Lightblue horse Lightcoral horse Lightcyan horse Lightgoldenrodyellow horse Lightgreen horse Lightgrey horse Lightpink horse Lightsalmon horse Lightseagreen horse Lightskyblue horse Lightslategray horse Lightsteelblue horse Lightyellow horse Lime horse Limegreen horse Linen horse Magenta horse Maroon horse Mediumaquamarine horse Mediumblue horse Mediumorchid horse Mediumpurple horse Mediumseagreen horse Mediumslateblue horse Mediumspringgreen horse Mediumturquoise horse Mediumvioletred horse Midnightblue horse Mintcream horse Mistyrose horse Moccasin horse Navajowhite horse Navy horse Oldlace horse Olive horse Olivedrab horse Orange horse Orangered horse Orchid horse Palegoldenrod horse Palegreen horse Paleturquoise horse Palevioletred horse Papayawhip horse Peachpuff horse Peru horse Pink horse Plum horse Powderblue horse Purple horse Red horse Rosybrown horse Royalblue horse Saddlebrown horse Salmon horse Sandybrown horse Seagreen horse Seashell horse Sienna horse Silver horse Skyblue horse Slateblue horse Slategray horse Snow horse Springgreen horse Steelblue horse Tan horse Teal horse Thistle horse Tomato horse Turquoise horse Violet horse Wheat horse White horse Whitesmoke horse Yellow horse YellowGreen horse Finally done...I know that some of the colors are hard to see. So you can refer to this link to see some of the colors more clearly. I think that it is best to see them against the MSFN background since that is where you will most likely be using them. Enjoy!
17. Okay, so here is my freeware machine. I also reviewed and gave details to some of the programs. Feel free to post your own reviews. If you want me to simplify this post just ask and I’ll edit it and make it just the program list with links provided. Enjoy! Operating System: Windows XP SP2 Component Removal Utility: nLite: nLite, in my opinion, is the holy grail of all component removal utilities for Windows! I absolutely love it. I have never had any problems with it. Although I have only personally used it alongside Windows XP, I have heard only great things regarding Windows 2000, 2003, and 64. It lets you slipstream service packs into your build, as well as integrate any drivers and/or hotfixes. There are also many miscellaneous tweaks you can put into your build. I find that by using nLite I can decrease my install time by at least 20 minutes if not more. This is a great program and I would highly recommend it! Best of all, it was created by our very own nuhi! Spank that OS! Windows XP Updates: RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack: RyanVM has done a great job at creating this pack. The full pack not only includes all the hotfixes that you need, but it also incorporates some great extras such as Unlocker, Shockwave Flash, CMDOW. One of the things I like best about the pack is the ability to integrate it into a build using nLite. This makes things tremendously easier and I would like to personally thank you RyanVM for creating the pack, as well as nuhi for allowing the automatic integration of the pack using nLite. Web Browser: Firefox Firefox Extensions: fireFTP: fireFTP is a FTP client for Firefox. I don’t like to clutter up my computer with miscellaneous programs and have never found an FTP client that I liked significantly over the other. I have found fireFTP to be the middle ground. It is not too complex, but still provides the quality one would expect from a program with many menus and what not in a simple and very navigable interface. Enough said! FoxyTunes: I, like may, like to listen to music while I browse or multitask on the computer. I always hate having to minimize my media player and then maximize it to change a song, mess with the volume, stop, etc. My solution is FoxyTunes. It allows me to control my media player from within Firefox without having to maximize my media player. It is very sleek and has a built in alarm clock. It also supports many media players; for a complete list click here. DownThemAll!: DownThemAll! is basically an extension that allows you to select all the links in a particular webpage and download them at once. Instead of clicking on all the individual links within a webpage you can just open DownThemAll!, select all the links within a page that you want to download, choose the destination, and let it go! ieview: The name of this extension should give it away. ieview adds to the context menu when you right-click in a webpage a tab that allows you to view the webpage in Internet Explorer. Some websites don’t view properly in Firefox or Netscape and this allows you to simply view them in Internet Explorer. You click on view in IE and Internet Explorer loads with the webpage you were just at without closing Firefox. ImageZoom: Again, name should give it away. Allows you to right-click on an image and choose how much you zoom. Simple, but very handy. E-mail Client: Thunderbird E-mail Service: Gmail (PM for invite) Web Server: SimpleServer This program is so easy. You just run the program, select the file you want to host, and click “start.” You minimize it into your system tray and it only takes up roughly 6 mb of memory. All the web user has to do to connect to you is know your IP. One issue that I have come across is having a firewall enabled either with your router or within Windows. This is not an issue with the program; however, and can easily be fixed by unblocking it from Windows firewall or your personal firewall, unless you have Verizon DSL where they block port 80. This is a great program and I recommend it to anybody wanting to host a file for a short period of time. One thing that could be improved upon is being able to see how many people connect to your server (server stats), but I have no complaints as it is a simple application. Firewall: Windows Firewall AntiSpyware: Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) Originally a GIANT product, it has since been purchased by Microsoft. Although I preferred GIANT’s original product because of the extras it included such as a file shredder, I have no complaints with what Microsoft has done with the program. It is very stable and the agents that you can choose to run all the time have always detected any sort of spyware on my machine. It does seem to slow my bootime, but I feel that security is worth the extra minute. Password Manager: AnyPassword Imaging: The GIMP Screen Capture: HoverSnap This program is great. It is a standalone executable to start off with. It uses about 1.2 mb of memory while maximized, 800 kb minimized to the system tray. At first the program may look intimidating, but after a quick read through you will realize just how easy it is to capture screenshots. After you have captured, it saves the image to the directory of your choice. You can then upload it via FTP. I have never used this feature, but if somebody does please tell me how it works. Office Alternative: OpenOffice PDF Reader: Adobe Reader (RyanVM's Installer) I use v7.0.1. I find v7 runs faster than v6. Basically enough said; it reads PDF files. I also mentioned in an earlier post about Adobe Reader SpeedUp, you should check it out. Compression: 7-Zip, TUGZip, WinZip File Manager: 2xExplorer File Joiner: Simple File Joiner File Splitter: Simple File Splitter Disk/Registry Cleaner: CCleaner Boot-CD: BartPE Virtual Drive: DAEMON Tools Audio Player: Winamp v5.09 Lite MP3/ID3 Tag Organizer: TagScanner Audio Editor/Recorder: Audacity Audio Ripper: CDex Audio Converter: dBpowerAMP Music Converter Video Player: Media Player Classic It’s slim, a single executable, and plays anything! Codecs: K-Lite Mega Codec Pack This pack includes absolutely everything you could possibly imagine. Quicktime and Real Alternative…no problem! It’s all there. You can play pretty much anything with this pack. Notepad Replacement: Notepad2 Startup Viewer: StartupRun Shell Viewer/Manager: ShellExView Diagnostics: AIDA32 This program is now known as Everest and was purchased by Lavalys. I still stay with the original version because Everest has three different versions (Corporate, Ultimate, & Home) and only the Home Edition is free. AIDA32 brings these together. It may be out of date, but I still love it! Net Monitor: SoftPerfect Network Scanner Torrent: Azureus P2P: Ares, eMule Plus Instant Messaging: AIM Instant Messaging Add-Ons: AIM Ad-Hack You may be wondering, "why the heck isn’t he using a multi-protocol instant messaging client like Gaim or Trillian?" Well, to be honest, the only people I talk to either have AOL or AIM. It’s basically the standard I use. Anyway, AOL has a tendency to scatter links to AOL and puts ads in the interface of AIM. This program removes them…COMPLETELY! This is honestly a must have if you use AIM. Games: GTA Yes, it is legally free! GTA2 Yes, it is legally free! Madness Interactive: This game is absolutely awesome! It is addictive as well. Breed GTA and Super Mario World SNES and you’ve got Madness Interactive! Icons: FOOOD's Icons, XPize (created by the very talented XPero) File Shredder: Eraser This program completely erases any data you want it to. It takes longer than many shredders that I have tried. This is because Eraser wrties over the data hundreds of times with miscellaneous combinations of zeros and ones. It supports NTFS and FAT32. It follows several methods of deletion, but you can define your own making this little program great! Wow! I'm finally done with all of that. I will add more, but this seems like enough for now. I hope you all benefit from this... Later! Edit: Added Instant Messeging, Games, Icons, and File Shredder.
18. Wouldn't a freeware machine imply a freeware OS? LOL! I'll post an entire freeware machine later on today...
19. Audio Converter: dBpowerAMP Music Converter This program rocks!!!
20. Hope I could help! Good luck!
21. Here is a nice article that reflects on when the Xbox and PS2 were unveiled and what was said they were going to do. It gives you an idea of how companies lie to sell a product. The same holds true at this years E3. There will be stuff that never happens that was said would.
22. Your language is fine. Use CD-RW when testing! It may be slow but you don't go through as many blanks while testing! I'm not sure about encrypting and decrypting because I never found any interest in going through the time just for the pure sake that if somebody wanted to get in they could. I see it as a waste of time, but I'm willing to help!
