remote desktop from work to home?
TheBlackMan replied to X-Ecutioner's topic in Networks and the Internet
Maybe this will help : Click Here I hope this helps! Some ISP's block ports such as 80 (Ex. Verizon) as well as common alternatives such as 8080 and 8081. They are not blocked because the ISP does not want you running a server, but because of a virus that spread through that port several years ago. If your problem is concerning ports, this site may help you as well : Click Here -
What are their pros and cons? I use WinRAR, but I like that TUGZip supports 7z. I'm trying to figure out if I should switch or not.

Here are some free network related programs : SoftPerfect Network Scanner NetStumbler I use both of these programs to help find computers across the network and monitor any suspicious activity. They may not be fancy or anything, but SoftPerfect's Network Scanner is a single executable which is always a plus!

Yes, Adobe v7 does seem to load much quicker than v6. Could you possibly provide a link to [deXter]'s lite version?
-
@ dman : I was just posting the link in case anybody was interested. It's a good thing to bring this kind of topic back because there are always people wondering what free alternatives they have. I think Adobe Acrobat is great! It opens absolutley everything I have ever needed it to, I have never encountered any critical problems with it, and best of all...it's FREE! One problem I do find with it; however, is it's slow loading time and what not. I use RyanVM's silent install package, which is tweaked to drastically reduce the loading time. You can find it here. There is also a simple application called Adobe Reader SpeedUp that removes plugins, descreasing loading. The beauty of it all is if you need those plugins again, you can add them back with Adobe Reader SpeedUp! You can find Adobe Reader SpeedUp here. Might I add a neat little webserver program : SimpleServer

It seems like most people have a player for audio and a player for video. I guess I'll try MPC (w/ Real & Quicktime Alternative) for video and use Winamp for audio. What is bundled with the XP Codec Pack? I always used the K-Lite one; is there a major difference?

I'm going to add a question since I've only used Daemon Tools and have been curious about purchasing Alcohol 120%. Which is faster to load, uses less memory usage, and which is more realiable? Also, does Alcohol 120% make good quality 1:1 copies even if they are copyrighted? @ joeymad : Doesn't Alcohol 120% have emulation options as well?

Worked fine for me. Very navigatable layout. Easy to use. Only thing I came across was after I had extracted all of the files and ran the executable the first time I got an MSI installation window for Microsoft Office. I'm not sure what's up with this, but after closing the window several times it loaded fine.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but oh well. My question is where are MSIs stored on the harddrive after you install them?

3rd party application for MS Outlook
TheBlackMan replied to learningprocess's topic in Microsoft Office
My apologies Zxian. I was unable to find any information pertaining to learningprocess's specific problem, so I simply presented them with a possible alternative, which happens to work in my case. I am sorry if I went out of the way by suggesting Thunderbird so quickly, but I was just trying to help. -

I was wondering what the most popular media player was among everyone. I am trying to find a new media player since I have grown quite tired of Winamp running slow and slowing down my CPU since AOL decided to spam it. I would not recommend Winamp v5.09 from my personal experiences, stick with v5.08. I can sum it up in one sentence, "Winamp...it really licks the lhama's a$$!" (If you've used Winamp you'll get that.) Anyway, what are some altenatives to Winamp?

How do I remove the Play With Media Player Right Click option. I've searched and all I've come up with is this registry key located here : HERE I couldn't get it to work, any ideas!?!

Found out where you can change the profile directory in the registry if anyone cares to know : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Okay so here is my problem and it is a big one. I've searched Microsoft and MSFN for this and havn't found anything. So, here's what happened. I download WIHU and was testing it out and didn't realize that I was testing it on my actual machine and not a virtual one. Anyway, I ended up creating a new user with the same user name as my default one. I can see where the profile directory is in Document's & Settings with all my "My Documents" docs. So, how am I able to change my profile with all my customization. I tried using the admin tools and changing the profile path, but it didn't do anything.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 Lite - 5 MB Only!
TheBlackMan replied to [deXter]'s topic in Application Installs
There is a nice little program for Acrobat. I'm not sure if anybody has said anything about it and I'm sure most of you know about it but I'll post about it anyway. It is Acrobat Speed-Up. It applies miscellaneous tweaks and also removes plug-ins making the boot time of Acrobat much faster. The great thing about it is that you can add these removed plugins when you need them. It takes no additional system resources, just run it once and it works great. Works with v6.x-v7.x! I've used this for quite a while and i love it! Acrobat Speed-Up -

Good post! I thought this topic was just going to die, but you've brought it back to life. I can also see recording companies use p2p to distribute songs from bands. Most bands post a song or two on their website for free download, but if you want to reach a mass audience use p2p and have the bands song come up in a similiar artists search. Also, when a mail server is down I tend to use p2p to allow people to get an attachment I am sending, whether it be a text file, non-illicit pictures , or song that I have written. That's more of on a personal use, but oh well it's a use for p2p.

Okay, I'm sure all of you have heard of the case of MGM vs. Grokster in the U.S. Supreme Court at the moment. MGM representatives have said, "Copyright infringement is the only commercially significant use of file sharing." I for one don't agree with this statement at all. There are so many legal uses for P2P! So, I just wanted to see how many legal uses we could come up with for the use of P2P in a commercial environment.

Yeah, there are programs that do it either frame by frame or you can convert and entire video file. Here's a site with a whole bunch of ascii videos : Click Here!

Okay, so I'm looking at starting a business online. Now, my question is how does somebody go about doing this and also...what would be a good kind of business to start?
