  1. Alright Guide #2 has been online for a while now on my thread (Minimizing Windows 7 Pre-Install) Anyone who wants to add to it is welcome to do so and then re-upload
  2. Thanks for pointing that out. I really haven't tested the x64 be because I'm writing this from my iPod. On top of that the only computer I have access to at the time I made that guide is a 800mhz intel celerom box running nLited XP on it! Guys, mod the batch files and the guide as much as you want and then upload it! It's for all of us to tweak!
  3. ===== Post Nº1 ===== Yup! As long as you change the image index, it will work with Ultimate. I just realized a few errors in the 'modified' batch files (thanks Jeronimo!) I'll work on them after I get back from Driver's Ed lol Guide #2 will be here soon with *hopefully* better support and maybe a GUI if I find a week or so of free time. For now, You'll have to manually create the ISO, Mount, LNG, and Drvers folders as well as place intlcfg and imagex in C:* Not so bad right? ===== Post Nº2 ===== EDIT: I uploaded a working Guide (it's #2) on the first post. removalXX.bat prep and fixreg now work, and the folders are created. imagex.exe and intlcfg.exe are automatically copied to the working directory based on the architecture you are modding. 'SausageHack' is now spelled correctly Important note I missed in the original post: If you are modding an x64 edition of Win7, you NEED to be in an x64 working environment as you run these scripts. If you are modding x86, you can work from either x86 or amd64. If you are working from amd64, modify removal64.bat so that the batch file can look in the right places!
  4. I have updated 7Slimmer to MMX-R2. Everyone interested in making a custom Win7 install should check it out! Downloads (total, as of 12-03-10): 78,893 (including external host for non-members) Downloads (latest version): 312 _________________________________________________________________________________________________ This thread is essentially a novice-friendly guide to modify Windows 7. Component removal is the central focus, but the user can customize a Windows 7 installation disk with language packs, updates, addons, tweaks, and much more. This is a semi-GUI program, meaning that you do not have to type in lines of code at a DOS prompt. Just run the program (Vista/7 users: Run as Administrator) and follow the prompts. I am attaching a README for specific details. For in-depth details, read Jeronimo's thread about removal.bat The source code is available, do whatever you want I'm too lazy to write a license... Consider it open source. Questions? Just ask in this thread and I'll try to get it answered UPDATE: 0.2 -- Some x64 users were having problems with the CHOICE.COM user-selection engine. This update fixes that. The included 7Slimmer.ZIP file has both the 32-Bit and 64-Bit version. 32-Bit also gets a little cleaner code. UPDATE: 7Slimmer MMX -- 2010 is here! The UI is refreshed, and some functions like cleanup and remove packages are a lot faster. The 32-Bit and 64-Bit versions are combined into one EXE file - still no need to install anything. 'MMX' is Roman Numeral for 2010 if you didn't know UPDATE: 7Slimmer MMX-R2 -- Final version for now, cleaned code and made the program compatible with EVERY Windows NT-based OS. Before, you had to be on Windows 7 exclusively (or download a lot of extra files). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ I have made a video tutorial for anyone interested. Click Here! 7Slimmer_MMX_R2.exe README.pdf MMX_R2_SRC.7z
  5. ===== Post Nº1 ===== I think I'll start that new thread There's over 30 pages on this one, and things may be getting a little out of hand. Search for 'Minimizing Windows 7 Pre-install.' I'll have it ready in the day or so with a COMPLETE guide in PDF or DOC format ===== Post Nº2 ===== Alright here it is! http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=136960
  6. ===== Post Nº1 ===== The obvious problem with that is the registry entries associated with the files. That would mess the installation more than vLite doesn't. ===== Post Nº2 ===== Ok lol a dummy run is simple... You just want to do like one tweak so that vLite lets you 'Apply' Then, it will automatically find and weed out the files that were associated with the ones that were deleted in 'cleanup' This takes substantial size off both the install.wim as well as the install.
  7. Maybe I can make a custom batch for you Put imagex.exe and intlcfg.exe (as I cannot distribute that cuz of 1b) in your hard drive root, then place the files I upload in there too (I'm uploading as a ZIP). Extract the ZIP to C:\*.* Place all drivers into C:\Drivers DVD content goes to C:\ISO Language packs in C:\LNG -------------------------------- Mount folder is C:\Mount Just remember to copy the imagex and intlcfg over to the hard drive root. They have to be consistent with the architecture of Windows you are modding (ie x86 or x64). These two files can be found in: C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\tools\amd64 (or x86)\* Hope that helps! btw King George next time could you just put all that stuff in a txt and upload? It makes it a real pain in the you-know-what for all the other viewers to have to scroll through all the pages of people replying... just gets a little too much Take a look in Jeronimo's Packages.xls file for reference SausageHack.zip
  8. I added a new step (it's step 11 now) that concerns the dummy run
  9. How did u get your image to 950mb did you use jeronimos batch and preset ? Sure did! Typing this from the install. Since IE was removed, I integrated an addon that gives you a choice of web browsers after first logon. Here's what I have done to make a Laptop/Gaming Edition... Not really for netbooks but I need performance (and lower power consumption!) 1. Install WAIK 1.1, vLite, and Windows 7 Tookit IN THAT ORDER. 2. Reboot 3. Put Jeronimo's batch in the root of your hard drive (along with imagex.exe intclfg.exe install_wim_tweak.exe and Win32Security.dll) 4. Mod the batch file for you situation 5. Extract the ISO where you told the batch file to look 6. Run a command prompt window from the folder the batch is in and run removal.bat packages 7. Reboot 8. vLite the image (HOMEPREMIUM), modify Jeronimo's INI as you see fit (rebuild to one image). 9. Reboot (yes it's important) 10. From another cmd window in that folder, run this: removal.bat cleanup 11. Launch vLite and do something so you can click apply (dummy run) 12. Reboot and do the cleanup again 13. Now apply addons with Windows 7 Toolkit ----- DO NOT INTEGRATE ANY ADDON LIKE TCPIP OR NETWORK MODS!!! INTERNET WILL NOT WORK!!! 14. Delete every file out of ISO:\\sources EXCEPT: install.wim boot.wim and setup.exe 14. You may want to delete that NameSpace reg key using Windows 7 Toolkit (reg hive mounter) 16. Test in VM or straight up install it! Good Luck!
  10. Never mind about that problem... integrated some TCPIP patch, threw off the internet connection ability! Got my x64 image to about 950 Mb, can't wait to set up the RTM for real on my laptop. Is there any way to register ieproxy.dll pre-install? It may be possible to make a batch to do it, then use Windows 7 Toolkit to mount the registry so you can add it to RunOnce, anyone tried that?
  11. I just finished my Windows 7 disk, and the internet will not work? It 'connects' but shows a little yelloe exclamation mark over the icon on the tray. I used Jeronimo's removal.bat coupled with his vLite ini. I'm using 64Bit... Is there something I should keep in DISM or vLite to make this work? I already modded his preset a little... but didnt take away anything that the preset didnt already have selected. Help appreciated and thanks in advance!
  12. +1 isn't it possible to add the hotfixes using DISM? Guys, check out a program called Windows 7 Toolkit (Google it ). This app lets you integrate drivers, hotfixes, themes, addons, updates, and other stuff. There is also a full suite of WIM tools for managing images. You can create addons and apply them to a wimfile. There's even an option for mounting/editing the registry and of course implementing tweaks. Try it out, should be on WinCert
  13. A little off-topic, but this may prove useful: If you want to compact your hard drive (ie drive compression) look at this: http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/appcompactor (Hope I'm not violating any rules by posting that, it isn't wimfltr or wimgapi or anything) This is a free app that uses UPX to recursively compress EXE, DLL, PYD, BIN and other binaries in a given folder. Simply select the root of your hard drive and let it go overnight! You will get some access denied errors, so maybe using takeowns and/or icacls can fix that. I remember this taking about 1-2 gigs of my Vista partition about a year ago, share with me how it worked for you. ***Use at your own risk. I shouldn't need to even say that but sometimes a system file could potentially be corrupted.
  14. Thanks for the quick replies. What is the minimum image size you can get? How low has everyone gotten? I'm planning on integratinga lot of drivers, so maybe I'll just forget about super-shrinking the ISO
  15. Which version of the Italian language pack are you integrating? Make sure it's 7600.16385 Also, can anyone give me some pointers on how to reduce ISO size? I use the DISM script and vLite, but then I get an image thats over a gig. Even after trashing winre.wim, extra desktop backgrounds, WinsXs backup, and only rebuilding Home Premium. Thanks to all you guys, I really need this to fit on a CD! Is there an option to use maximum compression when unmounting or something? I only have that option when capturing...
  16. Are you referring to Windows 7 as warez? There is nothing illegal about downoading this, just activating it. On the other hand, do you suggest 'closed' talk of warez as opposed to open' talk? This thread complies with all MSFN rules.
  17. lol dude, the rtm is out there microsoft has not confirmed the build string for the rtm there is no rtm http://haswindows7rtmed.com/ Is anyone else 'acquiring' the official RTM? I'm getting the 64-Bit from my Linux Mint install (too much tweaking 7 has finally come back to get me) Looks like mainly the same as 7600.16384, but has some activation bug fixed. Can't wait for my Home Premium x64 in October
  18. lol dude, the rtm is out there
  19. Guys, I have an idea for reducing ISO size, but only by ~80 Mb or less Instead of mounting install.wim, mount boot.wim You could probably get rid of a lot of extra files. The whole file is about 120-160 Mb depending on your architechture. On a side note, here are all the files I have found that are safe to delete: - C:\Windows\WinSxS\backup\*.* - C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\*.* EXCEPT 'Windows' folder - C:\Windows\System32\Recovery\*.* I'll try and keep this updated.
  20. I have tried to edit and build only the Professional edition but "No images available" after the installation boots up. i think i may have found a workaround? if you remove the other editions keeping only professional & then edit the ei.cfg file from ultimate to professional, it should install...testing now ...just finished & it installed correctly will try 2moro to see if vlite works properly on it? I just: A.) Mounted HOMEPREMIUM with GimageX B.) install_wim_tweak and DISM etc etc C.) Open up vLite, select to use HOMEPREMIUM D.) Do like one tweak and then rebuild one (HOMEPREMIUM) E.) Actually vLite it using a preset and apply F.) Delete all files out of /sources EXCEPT boot.wim install.wim and setup.exe Automatically installs Home Premium Edition! Theorhetically, this would work for Professional. Tell me if it works.
  21. Yes you should still be able to integrate the drivers using vLite Wow ....... so has anyone here succesfully integrated the Chipset and Matrix driver with either the ELITE or the ULTRA ini's in Post #1 ? Laslty, I gather using the " Unattended " page is still a no-go ? Thanks, Ben I have integrated over a gig's worth of drivers into my W7 7600 x64 Gaming Edition ISO. Worked fine. However, it asks a LOT of confimation during first logon about unsigned drivers and such, and if I trust so-and-so. Any ideas from anyone how to force unsigned drivers?
  22. You can. http://kurtsh.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!...!1665.entry Attention everyone who has been working on this thread: http://tinyurl.com/win7ge64 I uploaded Windows 7 RTM Gaming Edition for the people wht use vLite for speed, not storage limitations. Install size is not really relevent to me, I have a 200 Gb in my laptop This gives credit to everyone who helped me out! Seed it if you want to help spread this around.
  23. Thanks. I just selected HOMEPREMIUM with vLite out of curiosity, then slimmed it with a modded 'ultra' ini file. I installed build 7264 Home Premium with no problems. As for deleting/editing ei.cfg, well, I just delete it anyway along with everything else in the /sources dir except install.wim, boot.wim and setup.exe. But thanks for the confirmation. I just have one small little problem with install_wim_teak: Whenever I use it, irrespective of the build, it says unhandled exception blah blah blah something about a naming issue? I tried run as administrator with no success. It isn't a super big deal, but my install.wim is like EXACTLY a gig and I really want it to fit on a CD-R (7264 x86 btw)
  24. Jeronimo, last night I used the wim tweak tool on b7264 x86 without a hitch! I then proceeded to use the rem7201 batch file (edited to 7264 obviously) to remove the packages. I also removed the WinSxS backup (had to use takeown and icacls to have permission?) and extra wallpaper. I used the preset dead0 posted in his temp guide (thanks dude), but vlite said that it failed to rebuild the image. I think this was because I screwed with the permissions with icacls and all. GImageX also said it couldn't unmount my image on a seperate occasion because it didn't have permission to remove a dir I gave myself full perms to btw how do you install HOMEPREMIUM? just selecr thru vlite or do you delete ei.cfg? I hate ultimate .
  25. vLite merely tells you how much disk space you save, not the space on the ISO. If you delete 5 Gbs worth of data, that might amount to only a gig or so on the ISO. This is because an entire OS image is inside install.wim, which is highly compressed.
