  1. I would like to see how you set it up to look for the floppy. This is exactly what I need. I work on a lot of customers computers with retail and oem windows. So I need 4 cds right. oem/retail home/pro Then I just use the disc that corisponds to the customers original. I love this site!!
  2. Good link Prath- thanks Ill play with that and post results.
  3. Call me an id***. But is %userprofile% a variable or is that the actual text? Which user would that apply it to? All users, default user? Im confused because we use %systemdrive% as is.
  4. There is a 30 day free trial. Hopefully thats all you really need. But even if you want to buy it. Its worth the money. My Macromedia suite was over $700, acrobat Prfessional $400, But thats off topic ;-) Yes Im a big perfectionist when it comes to my projects. So everytime I change something or get a brilliant new idea I have to test it. Discs are only like 20 cents each, but it was the time it takes to burn etc, that I wanted to avoid. As far as editing the files inside the virtual disc? Im lost. I have a file called XP.vdmk If I double click it it just opens vmware. Do I need to setup the virtual machine to allocate the entire disc space for me to be able to see the files on the virtual drive? "Oh Its INSIDE the computer, its so simple" -zoolander I work off of a laptop so another harddrive isnt an option really. But I already have the virtual machines on a second partition.
  5. Hi Everybody, I've been playing around with my unattended install for about 3 weeks now. I just downloaded and VMWare Workstation and would just like to say it is a MUST HAVE. http://www.vmware.com/download/ Free 30 Trial. Ive saved about 25 disks in the last 2 days. Not to mention the time it takes to burn the cd. I searched the forum for info about how to use VMWare while testing your unattend iso, but didnt come up with much. So I figured I'd start a thread so people can post tips and tricks for using VMWare. One thing Id be especially interested in is how to suspend your Virtual Machine and then change files so I dont have to do a complete reinstall everytime I change a file in the iso. I have been taking a snapshot after it formats the drive right before it starts copying files so that saves about 5 minutes. Anyway, Post away. thanks to the MSFN team for this great site and forum.
  6. I have tried the mozilla/firefox way and It installs just fine. However extensions WILL NOT install. Everybody that is saying that this works perfectly, have you tried installing extension? I'd like to know if its just my install or if useing the mozilla setup.exe doesnt allow extensions. Any ideas? This thread is where I'm posting my progress: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=20271&st=50
  7. Ok- Has anybody used the mozilla setup with firefox 9.3? When I run the unattended as outlined earlier in the post. It installs silently (YAY!!) However when I try to install extensions I get the same problem. They install but when I close and open firefox it still says this extension will be installed after firefox has been restarted. So I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it and the extensions go in just fine. So now Im not sure where to go next. I guess I could just have the installer copied to the desktop so i can just run the installer after the rest of the unattend is done. Not the answer I want though. ;-) I haven't given up yet, I'll keep posting results and problems.
  8. An Update- Using the above registry settings has caused some problems. I already mentioned I couldnt install the extentions. So I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but it still wont keep the extenstions after you close and open the browser. Fortunately This is a VMWare install so Im not wasting any disks. Any ideas on the reg entries? Should I start a new thread? I feel like I'm talking to myself. ;-)
  9. Registry edit isnt working quite right either. It is putting the start menu group in correctly. And it puts Firefox in as the sticky internet browser. But When I try to instll extensions they install fine. But when I close firefox and open it they arent in the extensions. I downloaded windiff and regwatch but I couldnt make sense of it. These keys are run by cmdlines.txt -> auotlogon.reg Should they be run from guirunonce? 10. Duh- Thanks, I forgot the quotes in all my tests
  11. Hi- I've just about got everything I want in my CD. Just having a problem with the google toolbar. I have the Google folder in $Progs But when I use this it doesnt work: start /wait regsvr32.exe /s c:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll The dll file is there however. If I put the Google folder in $1 and use this: start /wait regsvr32.exe /s c:\Google\GoogleToolbar1.dll It works perfectly. So this works but its ugly. I want it in the Program Files directory. I tried Program~ Program~Files But neither of those worked? What's the correct syntax for program files? I run this from start.cmd Thanks
  12. I'm stuck. Has anybody been able to do an unattended of Firefox .9.3 with the plugins installed? I tried copying the program files\mozilla Firefox and $Docs\Current_User\application Data\Mozilla\ then used the reg edits from prath It will put the correct start menu items in for FF however when you click on it it wants to do the profile setup like when it is first installed. So far this is the only program ive had any problem getting to install correctly. Anybody have any ideas? Im open to do any testing. I just installed VMWare 4.5. Awesome program, wish I had it 2 weeks ago when I started pplaying with Unattended. Would have saved me a ton of disks and time ;-) lets figure this out.
  13. prathapml- I used your method and it works fine for the install. However the plugins are not there? Is that expected or where your plugins installed with firefox? Do you have to add registry entries or change something else for the xpi's to be installed? What about the flash plugin? I use the following plugins all-in-one mouse gestures ieview spiderzilla flash Java?
  14. Im going to try this with .9.3 Are the registry settings the same just change: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1] to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3] ill post results.

  16. I ended up just putting unzip.exe in my $OEM$ System32 folder. Then I zipped office and NAV used Adobe Basic and used the recommended removes from XP. heres my new batch files: CLS @echo off TITLE Windows XP Unattended Installation I'm so Bad a** ECHO. 17. Looks like I may still be a little short on space. I think I can get rid of enough stuff to be under 800 MB, but Is there a way to make office smaller? I thinned XP down to about 320Megs with the wizard. Is there a way to do that for Office? In the unattended setup wizard you can tell it to not install certain things but the packages are still there. I would like to be able to remaove frontpage and access completely from the install CD. Is that possible? Thanks
  18. Hi All- This is a great forum and MSFN is a really cool site. I have my unattended CD setup almost how I want it. I want to put everything on one CD so it is completely unattended. I want to just boot it and let it rip. So far it will do that. It does windows and my themes then installs Acrobat and NAV. I want to put Office XP on the same CD. If I zip NAV and OfficeXP I have enough room on 1 CD to fit it all. My Question is what would I put in my start.cmd file. And would I have to install winzip first? then unzip the files? Or is there something else that can unzip folders? My applications dir structure is exactly like it is in the Ultimate Guide, Except instead of the files there is just a zip file in the folder.
