  1. FIXED: Internet problem was Mediacom. Shutdown problem was the registry was changed in both version of XP. Added both registry tweaks again, saved the changes to the backup file in Winnt\System 32 and now everything works perfect in both XP+SP1, and XP+SP2. Thanks for the help. This problem won't come up again! -------------------- SCSI NT-W2K-XP
  2. prathapml: I did make a slipstreamed CD of XP+SP1 and added SP-2 yesterday. I just tried doing a "Repair" with this CD and received notice that it can't repair XP with this CD, since it isn't the CD that I installed XP. I loaded XP five days after it's release and have never done a fresh install. If you saw my system you'd understand why I don't want a fresh install. (Can email BelArc Advisor ot system if this would help). I have been able to repair everything sofar using RecoveryConsole and I have a shelf scsi hard drive backup using Drive Image (updated every week) to replace "C & D" when I step in a big pile of $%@#. I also have the registry tweaks installed to PowerdownAfterShutdown. The latest is that I just replaced XP with my old shelf drive without SP-2, and now have the exact same problem. Must not be SP-2? The internet works for awhile and then can't find DNS Server or IP. I think Mediacom is having a problem, but still it won't shutdown. I'll find the problem and post back if I find a solution. Thanks for any help, and more help would be appreciated. PS: My W2000, NT, Mandrake, Suse, Fedora operating systems on seperate scsi drive never have this problem. It must be something I'm doing????
  3. Installed XP Service Pack 2 (Network version) yesterday and it worked fine. Restarted and shutdown about 7 times without problem. Booted this morning just fine and IE6 worked for all forums. One hour later can't get on the Internet (can't find IP address) and the system WILL NOT shutdown. I hit "Reset" and rebooted and the internet worked fine, but I still can't SHUTDOWN; just hangs. Restore from a shelf backup hard drive to XP+SP1 and everything works perfect. Any ideas?
  4. Skyfrog: Thanks. I've tried ATI cards in the past, but the drivers were written by an unborn child amd worked about as good as a "Pet Rock". I will look into these now that drivers are more stable.
  5. Thanks: I will look into the Matrox cards. I only need DX9 for two DVD Authoring/Editor programs.
  6. I'm looking for a reasonable priced nVidia AGP card for W2K/XP/Linux to replace my TNT-64 for a Workstation that will support DirectX9. I don't run Games, but need stable drivers for Photoshop, etc, without spending the money for a Quadro card. Any suggestions would be great.
  7. There are three things you should check. In Control Panel>Power Options>Advanced Tab make sure that Advanced Power Management is enabled. Now this tab won't exist if the system was loaded ACPI and not Standard PC. If not there don't worry. Second, in the Registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon change the value PowerdownAfterShutdown to 1. And third, in the registry under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion create a new key called "Shutdown" and then under this new key create a REG_DWORD called "ShutdownSetting" and give a data value of 3.
  8. Here is the best method of slipstreaming a W2000 CD and removing the request for an install key. http://www.bink.nu/Bootcd/default.htm
  9. Sorry the link is no longer there. Basically what it does is remove the CD Key requirement for Windows 2000. 1st Copy the W2000 CD to the hard drive since changes can't be made on the CD. Find the setupp.ini file in the i386 directory. Change the file properties of the setupp.ini so it is NOT read-only. Open the setupp.ini file in Notepad. It should only be three lines. Edit the last line so that it reads "Pid=51873270". Save the file and close Notepad. Change the file properties back to read-only again. Now burn a bootable CD (don't forget to get the w2k.bin file from the internet) using the folder that you copied your original CD to. This CD is now booting and you will not be prompted for a key. You can also slipstream Service Pack 4 into this i386 before burning a bootable CD.
  10. Check this link http://www.winchan.net/win2000/cdkey.htm
