I am tryiny to figure our where I can change the default file> open path in WinPE? When I use FireFox I get an issue when I click file open it goes to a drive that I cannot access. I would like to change that. Any regedits or hints on how I can change that?

Is there any way in PE 2 to auto detect USB keys? This would be a nice feature to have. Ay henlp is greatly apperciated. Thanks.

The way to check the value of the scratchspace is when booted into WinPE and a command prompt is open. Change to the X drive and type the dir command it will tell you the total size.

Is there a way to make WinPE use my default FileExplorer in all main apps like notepad?

To edit the menu is pretty straight forward. There are some .ini files that correspond to what they are doing. To get this to run at boot up call the file from the winpeshl.ini .... if you place the whole directory in the Program files dir simply call it from the winpeshl.ini using the full path.

So the big exe files I have I placed on the root of the USB and they run successfully. However these exe applications self extract settings and files to a folder on the USB key.... I would rather have those exes extract to a RAM drive. Any ideas? Also while booted into WinPE I open the regedit and looking for the following key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\FBWF] "WinPECacheThreshold"=dword:00000010 Which should have one of the following values: ;dword:00000010 = 16 ; 0x10 = 16Mb ; 0x18 = 24Mb ; 0x20 = 32Mb ; 0x30 = 48Mb ; 0x40 = 64Mb ; 0x48 = 72Mb ; 0x60 = 96Mb ; 0x80 = 128Mb ; 0x100 = 256Mb Any idea why this key doesn't show? I would like to check the scratchspace of my current WIM and cannot.

Cause Word is much more easier to use considering I use it on a daily basis.

So what is the point of setting a scratchspace? Also I suppose no one has been able to create a 400-500MB WIM file?

So put the large files into the iso folder on the USB key? I dont understand why it wouldn't load it the way im trying but ok. Ill try what you suggest.

This occurs when I add large files. Usually once the WIM file is about 400-500MBs. I tried to set the scratchspace and that doesn't seem to make a difference. Am i missing something?

My WinPE crashes when I boot it up. The "Loading files" screen appears and then i get an error number 0xc0000017. Any advice?

Nuno, I have the MS WAIK 2 and I am trying to copy files from the install.wim of a Vista DVD. Does this make sense so far??? I want to get regular Windows Explorer not BS explorer.

Meaning I can use some pieces of it and modify it to my taste/liking? What file browser is built into VistaPE..... I want to get Windows Explorer(file browser).... doesn't seem to work......

Nuno, I was looking at the explorer script. I would like to get to know the bare bones of what the scripts are doing...... I'm assuming that just by having the Vista install.wim file I can make everything happen? If I look at the script and see regwrites then you are writing things to the mount reg hive? And you are copying files from the install.wim to your mounted winpe.wim? So when it says CreateDir then you are creating one..... If I can copy all the files and make the registry edits as the script shows then I should have a working explorer? No offence to the great work and time put into VistaPE it looks great and is very awesome. I just want to know the bare bones of what the scripts do. Is there an easy app that you would recommend that I can test with as to how I can get it to work? In the scripts it make referene to unpack a 7z file. What is being done here?

Truthfully I don't understand how to use VistaPE properly.
