  1. while this worked to run the program, the program then did a cleanup for the administrator count (or so it seemed) and the power user account is still messed up. I'm looking more for a way to run the program AS the power user.
  2. I work for a small private company and in the office we have several PCs hooked up to our network. Some log in to their own local machines (like myself) and others log into our domain and have Power User access to their PCs. Recently we had a problem on our secretary's PC. We logged into the administrator account and ran a registry fix program and the problem disappeared. However back on the Power User account the registry fix program was denied access. Is there any way to temporarily allow the account which is set up as Power User to make changes to the registry? Thanks for any replies!
  3. I've got to add to my list of recommendations Malware bytes Anti-Malware. My sisters computer recently had an infection of several trojans and spyware programs and Anti-Malware was able to remove them properly during startup. I wish Spybot S&D and more AV programs had a feature like this. I've edited my post.
  4. Telling us what operating system you're running might be a useful start.
  5. Norton, McAfee, Roxio I can agree with. The rest, you just need to learn how to deal with.
  6. Hi, I want to make a batch script which takes a file name which comes in this format: MonthDayYearHoursMinutesSecondsAM/PM.pdf and renames it to YearMonthDayHoursMinutesSecondsAM/PM.pdf For example: 09302008092212AM.pdf -> 20080930092212AM.pdf I am hoping I can use the for command to do this somehow. Maybe someone can tell me if I can use "2 characters" as a delimeter, that way I could split it into 09 30 20 08 09 22 12 AM .p df and rearrange. Any help would be highly appreciated, Thanks
  7. I did a repair install of Windows XP once and I was amazed at how well it worked, it remembered all of my installed programs and everything worked just the way it did before (only slightly snappier and less cluttered). Then I did it again about half a year later and it broke my system. So not really sure why I'm telling you this but I guess the main point is, backup important stuff before you try anything!
  8. That's why there's an option for "Combination of the above (Please post)" Personally: Spybot S&D Spywareblaster I also run Zonealarm Pro's antispyware now and again but its never found anything that Spybot hasn't.
  9. So is it working now? I am interested in doing this too.
  10. My choice is definitely AntiVir, its lightweight enough, it has a simple interface, and it has one of the highest detection rates of any AV (NB I do not say highest because detection rates are based on particular test data, some AV comparisons are biased with virii/trojans known to detect better on one AV or other). Also, what I really really like about AntiVir is that it hasn't tried to do -everything- like lots of AV/Firewall/Anti-Spyware developers seem to be doing. When I want an AV program, I want an AV program, not an AV program with crappy anti-spyware attachments. I use AntiVir for AV, Spywareblaster, Spybot S&D and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for anti-spyware (not ad-aware because the new version sucks) Zonealarm for firewall. I run a limited user account on Windows - this is one of the most best ways you can help protect your computer, and I keep up to date with all of my software. Here is a great blog for keeping up to date with security announcements: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/ And here is a great link to a software update checker: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/ Best advice: Run limited user account Always uninstall old (unsecure) versions of software before updating to new Do not use IE (except for Windows updates on Windows XP) Use Noscript and Adblockplus plugins for Firefox Browse carefully
  11. The first card I got was a Riva TNT2 which while it wasn't particularly fast (when I got it) still played games for almost 2 years before I switched to ATI and got the 9600 Pro and then (a good bit later) the X850 XT PE. While I upgraded twice, a friend of mine got a Ti4400 (or was it 4600?) and it lasted him for 4 years and he was even able to play GTA San Andreas on it (although not very nicely ). I've always found Nvidia's cards last fairly long, and they have nice features, while ATI cards (ignoring the 2xxx series) were always pretty good on power and performance but somehow had to be replaced after a while. If Nvidia got their act together now and managed to fix their drivers for the 9xxx and 2xx series then they should be able to edge up to ATI. I'm definitely interested in seeing the next line of cards from both manufacturers.
  12. I think the GTA 3 and VC were the best of the series, I don't like how they've taken out cool stuff like Killing Sprees, planes, random stuff in GTA4 and instead added crap like a social system and having to meet up with people all the time. GTA was all about being a total rogue guy who wasn't attached to anything and did want he wanted, that was so cool. Although then you do have cool things in GTA4 like being able to shoot in all directions from car, being able to jack locked cars, and obviously better graphics. I am really looking forward to GTA4 on the PC because you'll be able to use a mouse. It is what GTA4 on the consoles is lacking and any fps on the console is lacking too (NB I did not say GTA4 was an fps). So yeah, looking forwad to GTA4 on PC, even though it is nowhere near the best of the GTA series. Bring it on, hopefully it'll make the most of my 4870X2 in Crossfire.
  13. Hi, I've been using a program called SnappyFax to manage incoming faxes. It can auto-accept incoming faxes, store them as pdf, and forward them to a printer and/or email them. This is all great, however unfortunately the software does not have any options to rename the file. If I received a fax today for example, it would arrive as 092908111847AM.pdf i.e. MonthDayYearHourMinutesSecondsAM/PM.pdf. I need to be able to sort faxes better, and so what I need is either fax software that can do the same as SnappyFax(save as pdf, print, email), or software that can take a file, rename it, and print it and email it for me. With the latter option I can just tell SnappyFax to save the pdf to a particular folder and then the new program could do the rest. The important thing that either of these software need to do is to be automatic. This will be running on my fax server and everything should happen without prompts. If anybody has any idea what software can do this, or has a guide on how I can write a script to do the latter (rename, print and email) I would be very grateful. Thanks, sternkanz
