  1. Well, I finally found the resolve to this problem: as I thoguth it was an registry issue, caused by the jv16 Power Tools probably. I found finally the solution over the internet, even if it was addressed to 64-bit versions of Windows (mine's x32), the registry tweak found here (click on Fix for ‘Software Licensing service Has Stopped’ on some Vista 64bit systems helped. Thread may be closed now.
  2. Well, I came in mind that I could post the registry entry related to my SLsvn service. I really think that it can be related with it, especially if it was altered twice - both from backup of jv16 and the default settings from speedyvista. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\slsvc] "DisplayName"="Licencjonowanie oprogramowania" "Group"="ProfSvc_Group" "Description"="@%SystemRoot%\\system32\\SLsvc.exe,-100" "ObjectName"="NT AUTHORITY\\NetworkService" "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001 "Start"=dword:00000002 "Type"=dword:00000010 "DependOnService"=hex(7):52,00,70,00,63,00,53,00,73,00,00,00,00,00 "ServiceSidType"=dword:00000001 "RequiredPrivileges"=hex(7):53,00,65,00,41,00,75,00,64,00,69,00,74,00,50,00,72,\ 00,69,00,76,00,69,00,6c,00,65,00,67,00,65,00,00,00,53,00,65,00,43,00,68,00,\ 61,00,6e,00,67,00,65,00,4e,00,6f,00,74,00,69,00,66,00,79,00,50,00,72,00,69,\ 00,76,00,69,00,6c,00,65,00,67,00,65,00,00,00,53,00,65,00,43,00,72,00,65,00,\ 61,00,74,00,65,00,47,00,6c,00,6f,00,62,00,61,00,6c,00,50,00,72,00,69,00,76,\ 00,69,00,6c,00,65,00,67,00,65,00,00,00,53,00,65,00,49,00,6d,00,70,00,65,00,\ 72,00,73,00,6f,00,6e,00,61,00,74,00,65,00,50,00,72,00,69,00,76,00,69,00,6c,\ 00,65,00,67,00,65,00,00,00,00,00 "FailureActions"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,14,00,00,\ 00,00,00,00,00,c0,d4,01,00,00,00,00,00,e0,93,04,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 "ImagePath"="%SystemRoot%\\system32\\SLsvc.exe" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\slsvc\Enum] "0"="Root\\LEGACY_SLSVC\\0000" "Count"=dword:00000001 "NextInstance"=dword:00000001
  3. Hi. I recently encountered a weird problem when my "Software Licensing" service has stopped and won't allow me to launch it! It happened while I was using jv16 power tools to clear my registry and system settings (but all erroneus backups are already restored, that helped me with various other problems) and installing new drivers from HP to my software (fingerprint reader, bluetooth, Vista's KBs - "Windows Vista Essential Updates"). That way my control panel is not working (it's starting opening and closing without showing any icons after few seconds - it's "normal" when I have Software Licensing not running - happened to me before when the service was disabled - but I didn't have trouble turning it on again). When I try to launch the service either through services.msc or net start SLsvc command, I have the error "Error 2: the system cannot find the file specified". I also used the registry file with default windows settings for Vista Home Premium from here, but the problem appeared before that. I investigated the case, but found that the file exists under that path - all the entries - the one in service.msc, HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\slsvc and the one obtained through sc qc SLsvc are VALID... When I try to manually open the service, it is closing instantly (not showing in task manager) and output nothing in cmd.exe. Restarting system doesn't seem to help. I didn't tried doing it in safe mode yet (but I don't really thing it'll help). All the required services to run Software Licensing are set to automatic and are running. All the services that need Software Licensing are outputting error 1068. My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium, HP's preinstalled OEM (with a lot of modifications/custom programs/settings/new driver sinstalled. My system language is Polish (Poland). My laptop model is HP Pavilion dv5 1070ew I was using the newest jv16 power tools (1.9.0.580), 30-day trial (but it outputed some errors before - even if previous versions was working properly. Some information about Software Licensing can be found here and seems to be reliable.
  4. But this can: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/.
  5. There are a lot of items to delete, both pre and post instalation. You can delete all the folders at CD image beside i386. Next you can open each cab file in an archiving program (like 7-zip). The best is to use the Windows's itself program for creating and unpacking CABs (Google it, I don't recall it's name) in order to repack them (properly). Then you can delete things you are sure to delete... or look what nLite delete and delete it manually . You are not using nLite itself for making the image, so it's not against EULA. When it comes to post-installation, you can delete: - both Windows/system32/dllcache and Windows/Driver Cache/i386 (may be a bit risky and can cause CHKDSK not working properly [ex. checking files at each boot]) - all files named $NtUninstallstring$ after installing updates - C:\Windows\Help\ - C:\Windows\media\ - screensavers in system32 folders (but they will be recovered unless you menaged to disable SFC or deleted dllcache and/or i386 folder (don't remember which) - C:\Windows\Cursors\ - All known execs you won't be using (such as notepad, if you have something similar)... lot's to do. You can go as far as deleting driver files, dlls, cleaning registry... it all depends of your skills. Also try to find some useless logs or readmes. You can try to delete movie maker, windows media player and w/e after disabling SFC and/or deleting dllcache and i386. Also mess with options - disable hibernation, use programs for cleaning useless files (but I'm usnsure about ones with commercial licence), disable indexing service, disable recovery options... PS. Sorry for chaotic writing :/.
  6. I just wanted to say "hi" after a bunch form reading MSFN and having account without a single post . I registered mainly because I will try to change the OS at my lappy from Vista to either XP Pro or 2003 Enterprise. I think I'll have a bit of problems with that, so there's when I'm counting on you ...
