  1. I get the point that flash drives can't be used as ram now, but for virtual memory it could be an alternative for cache or page files which could be stored on a flash drive. I'm not buying that flash is "too slow" or "limited" as usb 2.0 is faster access than any IDE hard drive. I might need to investigate as to how readyboost is loaded in vista.
  2. If it works in Vista as "readyboost" why can't we force 9x to act the same way?
  3. has everyone forgotten about your friends and neighbors computers with aol and contacting tech support..........that was a nightmare in itself!
  4. I asked about this question in one of my other posts but not so directly as I am now. Is it possible to use flash drives as ram, pf or cache in 9x?
  5. I recently installed auto-patcher and ran into a few problems during install all were remedied when I bumped up my ram from 128kb to 256kb. Some of the modules don't react well if there is less than 256kb installed. Please recommend at least 256kb of ram before installing auto-patcher and even 982ME to help prevent someone else the headaches!
  6. The question as to the matter of "why use 98" has been asked which lends the question of why not use 98? We all know the specs of each operating system, all have the good and bad which should not be debated because each OS has it's holes . The purpose of the forum here is to improve each aspect of every version of windows be it the nt or dos version. We all have our preferences as to which we bang away on the same 102 key or more keyboards be it for playing games, writing code or answering a question on a forum. As long the OS is capable of performing it's required task and still do it in a reasonable and timely manner then it is viable well beyond it's life cycle. I have a question to the author of this thread will he be using xp/ vista beyond it's life cycle?
  7. Hello everyone, let me start off in that "I am noob" in what is going on in that your keeping win98se alive! A surprise to me that it was my favorite OS of all was being taken care of by great fans of it's simplicity and robustness. I feel I have fallen into a great bunch of people! I have questions as to how I can get "caught up to speed" with these updates that you all have put together and an order as to install these with a minimal of hassle (or system crash) lol! I've already installed Auto-patcher for SE but kind of clueless as to go from there to having a more stable and secure system. I would appreciate some guidance as to what I need to do next. Now my question: Vista has a feature called "readyboost" is it possible to implement such a thing into win98 and how so?
