  1. Well, I have managed to shave approximately 2.5mb from the secondary svchost.exe memory footprint by disabling the 'Shell Hardware Detection', 'Network Connections' and 'Telephony' services. And once again, here is the process list after booting: As far as I am aware, the remaining services cannot be changed without severely restricting functionality. Cheers, James x
  2. godfromdfo, please post a guide that explains the components that have been removed. In addition, which services do you have running? Here is the services configuration that my XP SP2 laptop is currently using: Here is the system after booting: Cheers, James x
  3. The integrated graphics on my laptop eat up a considerable amount of memory, however I seem to recall getting the memory usage for a very barebones Windows XP installation down to aroung 35-40 mb - this was with more or less everything removed. I used to use the minilogon replacement also, but had problems with new USB devices not being detected when first connected, so reverted back to the original winlogon. This was a few years ago, however, so the issue may have been fixed. In addition, I believe that a small program was included with the minlogon pack that allowed the CTRL+ALT+DEL combination to work. Cheers, James x
  4. Yes, another 2gb user here. An option to disable the pagefile would be most appreciated - it is one less thing to have to do post-setup. Cheers, James x
  5. Hello folks, I am attempting to install MacDrive on my nLited system in order to be able to read HFS partitions. Unfortunately, the installer fails with 'MacDrive 7 setup could not be completed because an error occurred'. I expect something I have removed using nLite is the cause, and would appreciate any suggestions for possible dependencies. Cheers, James x LAST_SESSION.INI
  6. Hello folks, happy new year! Well, it's been a while since I was an active member of this forum, however I recently purchased a new (second hand) laptop, and would like to ask your advice before finalising a new Windows XPsp2+RyanVM installation. I am rather curious about the exact purpose of downloading and installing the Intel chipset drivers, as opposed to simply using the built-in Windows versions. After downloading 'infinst_autol.zip', and looking through the contents of the archive, there do not appear to be any .sys or .dll files, therefore I wonder if there are any benefits (performance etc.) other than perhaps having the specific names of components in Device Manager? Moreover, if I use nLite to remove the Intel IDE driver, then integrate the downloaded Intel drivers, will everything still work correctly? I am a little sceptical, due to the lack of .sys files in the archive downloaded from Intel. Any insights would be most appreciated. Cheers, James x
  7. Hello, gosh this is a blast from the past! I am trying to use the new Windows Media Plugin for Firefox, available from http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-me...n-download.aspx . It seems to install without a problem, with the plugin launching when embedded WMV/WMA content is detected. However on my nLite'd system, the plugin does not successfully play the media, sticking on the 'Connecting...' stage. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than using the older plugin from Media Player 6.2. Kind regards, James x
  8. I expect the .icm files, although there may be one or two DLLs also. Kind regards, James x

    Nice job, nuhi!

nuhi, might I suggest making a new thread, containing all the abuse you have received for your efforts. We could all have nice chuckle. Cheers, James x
  10. I see, thank you for the explanation. Cheers, James x
  11. No, I believe this is perfectly natural, don't worry. James x
  12. My apologies if this topic has been covered thoroughly, however may I ask what the WFP/SFC fix is related to? Kind regards, James x
  13. Thank you for the new release - I'm glad you are still continuing development of nLite. Ah, and great name - great Amiga website too! As always, there a query regarding the new components: - Microsoft Color Management (ICM) Does this just remove the .ICM files, or will the 'Color Management' tab also be removed from the 'Advanced Settings' Display Properties? Perhaps it's time for a format and new XP installation? Keep up the great work, James x
  14. 'No soup for you!' etc. Cheers, James x
  15. I recall InstallShield installers would fail if the 'DCOM Server Process Launcher' service was not set to 'Automatic'. This was a little while ago however, and things may have changed. Yes, I know you state that all the services have been turned on, but just in case you fancy double-checking everything after a reboot. Cheers, James x
  16. DL, perhaps I should give it another try. I was delighted with my minilogon nLited installation until I plugged in my MP3 player (and portable harddrive). Expecting it to appear as a USB mass storage device, the system attempted to install the drive (the hardware detection icon appeared in the system tray), yet after wait a few moments nothing appeared in the Device Manager. After a little unsuccessful testing, I switched back to the original winlogon, restarted the machine, and the MP3 player was picked up by Device Manager straight away. As I say, it has been perhaps over a year or so since I lasted played with MiniLogon, however I gather there are other issues that at the time had yet to be resolved. Cheers, James x
  17. Don't forget that you will lose USB device detection if you use Minilogon. James x
  18. I'm an old Amiga die-hard, yet even I cannot get excited about saving half a meg... Cheers, James x

  20. Use a driver backup tool to backup the existing XP drivers for PCMCIA, audio, AGP, NIC, video and battery devices. Then, fire-up nLite and remove *everything* from your XPsp2 distribution. Format, install XP, the backed-up drivers, Firefox, and Bob's your uncle. Cheers, James x
  21. Ah, if this is true, perhaps someone ought to correspond with the KMPlayer developers. I was hoping to try this player on my stripped-down XP installation the other day, however after appearing to install successfully, attempting to launch the software has no effect. Cheers, James x
  22. Why not? You're British, so it is safe to assume you spend a fair amount of your disposable income in the pub. Why not forgo a night consuming alcohol and send nuhi whatever money you save. Take care, James x
  23. Hello folks, Has anyone had a chance to try this new open source virtual machine software - http://www.virtualbox.org ? I wonder how it compares in terms of speed with VMware, VirtualPC and Bochs. Cheers, James x
