  1. and going back to XP. Too many reasons, but a couple of questions. The laptop I bought(Acer Extensa) came with Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS. I want to remove the hard drive 'as is' and replace with a new one, then load OEM XP Home and IE6. Solid as a rock. Will that OS work on the newer 64 bit machine? Also, my old DOS executables won't run in Vista(no longer supports Fullscreen apps), and I have to have them for record keeping. Any thoughts much appreciated. Best, Paul
  2. You can see what's active at startup. From the desktop: Click on the START button > control panel > Administrative Tools > System Configuration > Startup and/or Services. They're right next to each other. You can opt out of a lot of stuff there, but remember(IOW: make notes of) what you de-activate. Oh, and do a 'Create a Restore Point' first using 'System Restore'. Best, Paul

  4. Just a guess, but go to the Desktop>Start>Control Panel > Printers and find the problem printer. Right click on it and open Properties. I think there's a setting for multiple copies somewhere in there. Also go to the manufacturers site and see if there are driver 'fixes' that match the problem. I just finished a MAJOR battle getting my printer/scanner to work with Vista. Took a couple of driver downloads. Best, Paul
  5. I used to have a form created in Word 2002 using XP, which allowed me to start with a 3x10 matrix of blank labels. It looked just like a blank page of removable, sticky labels. I could add addresses directly to each label, then use that to print full pages of labels, or use the info(via Tools) to print a single cell to an envelope. The data base doesn't work in Vista using Word 2002, so I have to start all over again. Can't find an application that'll create an Address Book, just some Contracts thing that only accepts a name and an e-mail address. Is there some variant that will do just normal addresses? I really like the convienance of a form that can use the data to do different things. Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Best, Paul
  6. Thanks Crahak, I'll give it a shot. Beat, Paul
  7. New Acer laptop with Vista Home Premium. Installed Word 2002 and no problems. Installed Works 7, and when I try to setup a simple test spreadsheet with say 5 fields and 5 cells worth of data, then go to 'print' or 'view print', an error comes up saying "out of memory". Does this in both Spreadsheet and DataBase apps. During one episode, Vista went into a memory check routine, and another time I got the message "Trying to locate a solution to the problem". It couldn't, and the box merely closed. Vista seemed to have no problem installing the older Works(also tried Works 8.5-same propblem), but storage seems to be the issue. Any help much, much appreciated. Thanks, Paul
