Thanks thats what I thought Man I forgot how much I hate this slipstream stuff. It never works. So far works fine in Virtualbox but not on hardware, says NTLDR missing or on the other 10CD's I coastered it has a corupt file when loading

Hey just a quick question. I have slipstreamed before, but this time I just built 2 computers for my parents. They have identical hardware, so I was assuming that I can just make 1 CD(XP pro) and use it to install on both computers(using separate valid Keys). I was wanting to slip the drivers and sp3 and a few other things in. Am I correct that this will work fine?? Also can you slip the AMD Cool N Quiet drivers in and have them function properly? I have the same issue, just built a new comp for my Dad and installed XP from this CD drive(Samsung from Emachines) and it shows up fine everywhere but wont read any discs in windows. I havent tried to burn 1 yet but it transfers files ready to copy just fine. I never tried it after the install as i loaded all the drivers from USB. But I was thinking that it was the drivers or windows update that did it. I have now completely uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers and still the same. Which points me to some windows update/SP3?

I'm not real good at this but I'll try. If you right click on the task bar you can set it to "lock the taskbar" it you unclick that you can change the size of the taskbar by positioning the mouse over it where it meets the desktop. Then you can relock it. You may have already tried it, if so someone else will surely know the answer

I want to remove the nvidia 169.21 driver I slipstreamed. When making the slipstream disc I removed the other windows display drivers using nlite. Right I downloaded it from guru3d, I also tried driversweeper like I said. I will go get the newest one.

no I didnt, I read some bad things about it from older info, so i didnt try it. But is it a standalone prog or built in because I wasnt sure?

Hey just wondering, since I'm new to this. I made a slipstream sp3 cd w/ chipset+video drivers, both nvidia. Anyway I'm not sure but I could not for the life of me uninstall the video drivers. I tried in safe mode w/ drivercleaner pro and driver sweeper(which could not delete nvavi.dll??, I deleted it with unlocker but still didnt work). So i think my issue may be that I uninstalled the other display drivers w/ nlite and added this one so I could not install it because there was nothing ot load windows with, but I could be wrong. Basically I uninstalled, reboooted to safe mode, uninstalled from device manager, ran driver cleaner and driver sweeer, deleted the nvati.dll(think thats what driver sweeper said it could not delete?), rebooted and the orig driver would be back. So I tried the same thing but after uninstalling same way, I installed the new driver while in safe mode, then on reboot it asked if I wanted to use this older driver I hit yes, the restarted and it was an unending cycle every reboot asked me if I wanted to install the older driver and wanted me to reboot. Well after messing with it for 30mins or so I messed with some reg files and hosed my windows up, so i'm making a new slipstream at the moment w/o video drivers and leaving the old drivers in place for now. Not sure if this driver was just super human or its the slipstream process that embeded the driver deeper than the driver cleaners could get to delete. Thanks in advance, matt

yep like said above, figure out what brand of hd you have, then download and run the error checking program for it(normally on a floppy disk)

my laptop has fat32 on it and every once in awhile like if the battery goes dead and it shuts off, then on reboot it will want to check the disk. Big PITA if you ask me, its a 10gig partition. I also tried using fat32 on my desktop for the pagefile partition and same thing. I dont see the point of using it.

well you dont want to disable booting from the HD, just make cd rom 1st boot, hd 2nd boot. Then it should get to the boot and say press any key to boot from CD, so just tap a key. You need the hd enabled because after you get a little ways into the install it will boot from the HD. Other than that I dont see why you would have any probs

well the slipstream may not like the drivers. If you just slipstream sp2 and the updates while your at it, then install the drivers afterward it may work better. i believe in a clean fresh install instead of going over an existing one. Actually I dont pretend to know much but I believe I've come accross a couple people that have had probs installing realtek drivers but I dont know exactly which ones/platform they were

I've done it like I said in my above post. from a running XP home oem OS to a xp pro SP2 upgrade CD worked fine, now if you have a non upgrade CD then that may be the case?

I'm not sure about using the upgrade feature and slipstreaming. I have a couple XP pro upgrade CD's(with SP2), thats what run but I only do fresh installs(which by the way requires another original Microsoft original CD of some sort if you delete the current partitions, which I didnt know at 1st and finally found a windows 95 CD from a friend). My 1st question to you is why do you want to upgrade? Not many things are worth going to pro from home, only for certain machines(I dont recall the exact benefits but for normal usage xp home is just fine). If your doing an upgrade on a running machine I see no reason that the install would remove your current drivers, I did it once before I knew what I was doing and it doesnt touch the drivers just the OS files. Did you try a clean installl and have probs with the sound drivers(assuming), otherwise how would you know about the issue?

You sir are my hero. It worked. Thats exactly what I was looking for. I'm not really into messing with the registry but I'm not scared to make some changes. I changed it like you said, restarted then installed, changed it back, restarted and all is well. Thank you much

Well according to Pinnacle's web site it will work with SP3 as long as its installed before, but will not currently work installing on a SP3 setup. I basically was just asking if there were a couple(like 3-4) files that were labeled as SP2 or 3 or whatever and I could change them for the setup then change them back. I dont know the files so I guess I will contact them unless anyone else has a hint for me to try.

no just wait a day or so till someone else has a good answer, I dont use IE so I'm not sure where to look but I bet its burried in the options somewhere. Have you tried turning off Norton? Also since your not up on computers much I recomend getting something different than Norton when/if you subscription ends. Kaspersky is availble an bestbuy and such and is a great alternative or nod32 if you can find it. Just for future refference as these are considered by many as the best for security. If your looking for free antivirus AVG and Avast are good(not that you can download them currently:(

personally I think your better off with firefox for the internet, I have IE7 installed just because but I could not figure out how to use it(not that I do much), it would not even pop up the install active X on microsofts site, so I use IE Tab in firefox to install windows updates, works great.

Well I recently made a slipstream xp cd w/ many addons including SP3 build 3300(just stuff that other people made because I'm a newb at this). So everything is fine and I love how nice of setup nlite gave me unattended. Anyway i go to install one particular program "Pinnacle Studio 11" and it says in needs SP2 and quits. So like I said I'm a newb but I have come across a couple files that say SP3, can I change these to be labeled SP2 for the install of this program, and which would I change? I looked on Pinnacle's site and they are aware of the prob but since SP3 is not "official" yet they haven't made any work around yet. Thanks in advance

also you may want to go to device manager and see if there are any other ? marks of hardware that dont have the correct drivers

well normall slowness is because of a couple things, as I dont know your level of expertise I dont want to insult you as I'm no expert either. I'll post some helpful hints for all around faster acces if you have files on your desktop other than shortcuts it takes time to load this, like if you have a folder just move that folder somewhere else and create a shortcut on the desktop for quick access. Also defrag all your hard drives and do disk cleanup, possibly run a spyware cleaner you can go to my computer, click "tools">"folder options">"veiw"> uncheck "automatically search for network folders and printers" go to start>run and type msconfig, click the "startup"tab and these are all the programs that will start when windows starts, most programs when installed like to set themselves for automatic startup with windows, uncheck most of them except for antivirus/firewall and others you need/want to run. All the progs will run normally just wont hog up resources while booting.

I really didnt know the reality behind it, now I know and everything is all good now, they look great. Now I can remake a cd and end this maddness for now. Oh and Kels thanks for the themes

Hey I'm a newb at this but I learn fast and read alot. I have an sp2 cd, I integrated the following: SP3(tried 33264build and 3300build) WMP11+all updates(tried with and without) RED_XP_SP3_Updatepack_1.6.2(tried with and without) DVD shrink addon Foxit addon DVD Decryptor addon IE7 + updates addon ( these 3 and maybe a few more were added later after I was having the prob consitently) DotNetFX all in 1 addon windows sidebar addon and 3 different theme packs(from different makers)(tried adding them 1st in RVM then nlite, no work) anyway I get themes like this(see pic), I've tried many ways and at 1st it worked, then ever since I cant get any themes to work. I've been trying everything to revert back. Everything else installs and looks good except for any themes. I've been using nlite mostly, but have also tried combos of RVM integrator(v1.4.3) and nlite(V1.4.1). Like I said I'm new so everytime I redo the nlite process and have done ~20installs on VMware and I think only the 1st one when I used the themes on worked(but I didnt have the drivers installed properly, and I found other stuff to add). Please help me troubleshoot as I'm getting tired I can select the theme and it changes the background(its very slow to load also), but the menus revert back to clasic, the only theme w/o clasic menus is the default theme??

Well I understand that from the name, there are others after that, some .dll's and such. I think one is multi.dll??. I can get all of them here in a bit if needed. I dont quite know how the amd drivers would not be there(assuming there needed) because I left the amd drivers checked(one of the installs that worked I unchecked intell drivers, but havent been successfull again). Bassically with SP3 build 3300, wmp11+ updates, some various addons/updates, raid+chipset+display drivers(all of these remain the same every time as I have a copy like this I keep using nlite on using different options). The only succes I've had was on a basic dont remove anything kind and this one,all the menus for any themes are just Black(except for the default one) in the preveiw section and when selected they revert to clasic menu's OK so for now I have been just using .iso's and VMware to test and thats where I have the probs, so I checked the sp.cab(funny thing is its labeled sp2.cab and its sp3 and shows in the program?, in another I have saved it shows sp3.cab) and these files are in there, the ones that it says it cannot read, so advise? I also read some things about it and basically said it comes down to how you mess with nlite as in the order. EDIT: OK I fixed it(kind of), well seems I wasn't giving nlite much credit. I was doing the many steps like I said above(guess I thought I had to from my verylimited knowledge). I just took my xpsp2 cd and straight to nlite added all of that crap through there and viola 1st time everything works(I even took out many/many things and tweaked it and it was unattended). I still have the missing menus in all the themes except the default theme, may try to add the themes in the unattend part?

Hey I'm new to this, but I have created a couple copies changing things and testing with VMware(workstation to be exact). Anyway I made a couple that worked, then all of the sudden I have like 10 tries in a row that all come up the same when windows is installing, around 40% the 1st thing that pops up is amdk6.sys(these are all cannot find/read), amdk7.sys, ect.... If i keep hitting esc to ignore it goes on for about ~20 files that it cannot read. Then wont start after the reboot So I'm confused, anyone know what part of the OS these files are in so I dont remove with nlite??Using version 1.4.1 I have an xp sp2 upgrade cd, I slipstreamed sp3(build 3300 or RC2)(with nlite), then I slipstreamed WMP11(+ all hotfixes/updates)(with boogy's slipstreamer??), then added drivers(with nlite), then added some addons with RVMintegrator 1.4.3, then went through and removed/tweaked some things(using nlite). Now I've had only 1 success with this 3300 build and the themes addon I integrated didnt work, the all the themes menus are missing and go back to default classic style(except for the default). I have to pretty much not remove anything for it to work. Or I allways delete the same thing that I think I can and causes this I have made some copies with sp3 RC1 build 3264 and they seem OK as I can remove many things w/o issues Thanks in advance Matt
