  1. ahhh just put %userprofile% instead of C:\ there.
  2. Hmm while pressing "WindowsButton + E" i end up having the 'Computer' overview, meaning i see all my drives.¨ If you talk about a link, simply change the line: "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe" to "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe C:\" ( without " anyway) or where ever you want explorer to be opened. Hope this helps.
  3. I'd be very interested too, why nowadays someone cares about 2mb of his/hers OS size... (beside making the smallest install ever )
  4. I'm sorry if i dont 100% understand you. If you do talk about such a decreases of memory during the update(+/- 5minutes), absolutly normal. If you do talk about such a decreases of memory way after the update, it is uncommen to me.
  5. Sorry to say, but to me Incredimail (whatever) is very un-sympathic (unsympatisch) to me. Dont know why, but i'd rather use BatMail (which i dont) than that.
  6. Hi c0nt3nd3r Doesnt sound like you'll be using 64bit OS'. Continouing this asssumation, i'd suggest you VirtualPC by Microsoft: download link However, i prefer VMware's Virtual Server, but i'm running 64bit, and a virutal server enviroment anyway.... VirtualPC 2007 is just easier to use, at least i feel so. To get the usage for ANY virtualisation, you DO need the OS you want to install as .iso file, to mount it to your virtual computer. Then you have to install it like it would be a normal computer, thought you wont be running for drivers (or i have that done that without realizing it). You will be able to run a Linux distribution like Slackware, Redhat, Fedora, SuSE, whatever in that 'box' (made best expeirence with XP anyway), you may even create diffrent boxes with diffrent OS' according to your needs. Hope this helps. Cheers EDIT: dang i acutaly overread your question: making it short, the answer is: yes to the VM thingy and NO regarding the hoops, unless you test unattened installs
  7. Not if an update is available AFTER you have removed the perihperial component (if you talk about a printer, 3rd monitor, Software you have deinstalled or something).
  8. Hi installing office 07 seemed to be a little tricky at the start, a while later i felt pretty used to it. Anyhow, after preparing a mpp file with "setup.exe /admin" -> create new -> save as ".\office07_dir\mysettings.mpp" i tried installing it with a batchfile.. had to play with them a while to figure out this string (the string now shown here might include typos, however since i'm not at home i have to type from memory Base-Directory: z:\ua\apps\office07 File in base directorsy: inst.cmd @echo off color 0b title Installing Office 2007, Visio and Project cls echo. echo. Installing Office 2007, please wait.... start /wait setup /i mysettings.mpp /pidkey=xxxxxx... /name="my name" /company="companys name" (etc) REM the same lines for visio and project During normal windows mode the installation worked perfectly. Therefore i copied it to the Windows UA installtion made all necessary changed to the files so inst.cmd gets called, made a new iso and tested. It ended with the cmd to be called, telling me to wait while office 07 installs, no error messages showed up while office was installed. However, visio and project produced some error message regarding a registry entry... After the windows installation i clicked on start, browsed to the office entry but didnt see ANY link in there (only for the enterprise tools). Then i explored to the apps dir, and didnt see any of the expected exes in there ("word.exe", "excel.exe" etc). However, Visio and Project got installed as expected, even they had an error message ... Any ideas? Thanks in advance. PS: going to edit the codebox within the next 90minutes.
  9. Host HW: Motherboard Asus/nVidia P5N-T Deluxe CPU: Intel Core2 Quad X9300 2.5 OS: Vista x64 OEM VM: VirtualPC 2007 SP1 x64 Newest drivers of course.... VM-Guest Hardware: Emulate Host HW OS: Vista x64 OEM (WAIK & nLited - waik x86 works, waik x64 not) Is this about what you need to know DigeratiPrime? Greets and TIA Arjuna
  10. midiman25, just 2 months ago i was in a pretty simliar situation since i up into buying a new computer that would last some time. My criterias were: * Working (Servers: VM/VPC07, developing) * Gaming (new games with at least 40 fps) However, if you just want to play games (which you dont) a Dualcore is the better choice due to higher CPU rates, and AFAIK there is no game yet that is designed for Quad Cores. Working with a Quad is absolutly awesome! However as far i track the perfromance monitors most of the time my cpu's are 'at balance' to each other, one just peek while starting a new application or have running a background process like defrag, antivirus or simliar. Conclusion: If you want to be prepared for the next 5 years.. * get a high-end motherboard * get the highest quadcore available, * put in something like 8gb ram, * get either 1 grafic card > 600mb or 2x512++ sli/crossfire) * be aware of BIOS tuning, you can either improve overall system perfromance or crash it. (even destroy hw) I'm having 2 nVidia 9800 512mb sli x2 with wich i do have ~50 fps in each VM/VPC07 emulation. Hope this helps.
  11. Assuming your comment has refered to my old system declaration below my profile (xp x86), i changed it to what i'm running now. I dont know much about the "nick-names" of processeros, but i'm pretty sure an Intel Core2 Quad 2.5ghz should be able to run VPC07 on 64bit mode. As much i now read on Wiki i'd be even running an Itanium II or higher... Anyhow, i'm not that familiar with hardware reqs. Cross-question is there any other virutalisation possible beside VMWare?
  12. Hi I've visitied Microsoft today at one of their download pages.. --> specific link Obviously I downloaded the x64 version as i'm running on Vista Ultimate x64. Now i was expecting to be able to test my nLite'd x64 iso's. But that was wrong.. All i got was this lousy screen: Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Thanks in advance. Arjuna
  13. Hi while using the /admin trigger, i've seen the option for outlook. Though searching the forum for PRF it didnt find anything. Does anyone konw how to create PRF's, if ASCI file, what is its syntax? Just found a link describing about PRF's As i first wanted to ask, i though i leave the link if someone else wonders about PRF files. Greets Arj
  14. Thats about what i was planing So far, i used to play around with nlinte, which most likley will be used again. However i want to include so many more things, and silent for sure. Anyhow, i'm going through the 5 steps, by now we're somewhere between 1 (empty) and 2 (link library). While the status link library would be something like a follow up faq. Like here's a list of what may be changed during setup, and you get to choose which part you want to have explained, so you click to a link which directs you to a post someone has written who has more knowledge about that issue...

    Noob Question

I've used nlite for years now (about 2?), and had a look to vlite. To me, both tools would have the same benefit. As i re-install my OS once a year for sure, if not more, the benefits are as follows. * Pre-Installed drivers * Hotfixes already included after install, no longer 20 reboots due to hotfixes. * unattended -> i can do real life stuff mainwhile and dont have to sit n' wait for 1 click. * removed lots of services i dont need * all tweaks (l2 cache, sysconfig as menu, show systems files, dont hide file extension, etc) * service pack installed * and if investing a few hours more, you have also installed your most used application (office, firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware, etc) installed in the same time, still unatended. for me, thats more than enough..... At this point, Nuhi, you've done some awesome work! /slime on I tried something similar years ago, but what you've realised by now, is far beyond of what i was able to create /slime off
  16. none yahoo slows down google spys msn slows down, spys and all the other toolbars for browsers just eat the space i need to surf the net
  17. Just in case he wants to rename something else... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "NV Hostname"="11011110" "Hostname"="11011110" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "NV Hostname"="11011110" "Hostname"="11011110" This would rename your computers name to "11011110"... and is, afaik (not testet) the only way to name computers to 'binary'. You need to restart the computer though Hope this helps Greets

  22. Wanted to include how to 'slipstream' apply a service pack to the installation. Sadly i've got a WinXP Pro SP2 CD from my OEM Vendor. Fully unattend For the basic unattend installation we dont need that much, but need to know we can use the values also in the future. Option 1: Read the MSFN hosted Guide Option 2: Read through the Microsoft Knowledge Base Option 3: Use a Tool (nLite / HFSLIP / Setup Manager (WinXP SP2 Deployment Tools)) Option 4: Edit the existing one and pray Drivers Option 1: MSFN Guided (very good) Option 2: MSFN Guided as well Option A: Video Codecs Hotfixes Option 1: MSFN hosted Option 2: RyanVM theme
  23. Hi this thread is mainly for (my) personal thought might be of interest to others. I've been playing around with unattended for about 3 years by now, though always used Nuhi's nLite, which is an awesome tool for starters, so i'm reaching a point where his tool doenst fullyfill all needs any longer. Please do not post within this thread until some of the placeholder posts have some real entries. Thank you. There are several steps this thread will go through 1. Empty 2. Link Library (LL) 3. Text and LL 4. Text, Images, LL 5. Checklists Current status: 1 Goals: fully unattend (thinking about combining unattend with udf) background during install using diffrent folders (eg.
