  2. sure, at least it works with my win2k unattend cd. my $OEM$ is located under i386, not parallel. I met the same issue before finnally I noticed when I move it under i386 it works. but I'm not sure the suitation for XP.
  3. if from CD pls using i386\$oem$\$$\fonts instead
  4. I suggest you go by this way, make a bootable diskette with auto batch file include these function: 1.monut your cdrom, using mscdex.exe /L:Z or other drive letter u want. 2.running xcopy z:\i386\*.* c:\i386inst /s/e 3.cd c:\i386inst 4.winnt /u:unattend.txt /s:c:\i386inst just show u a thoughtness
  5. here is part of my reg-script, it works fine on my company computers.I don't know why you were failure but anyhow just another reference to u. maybe it caused by themes ... ... the script works fine for all logon users. [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop] "Wallpaper"="c:\winnt\anbkg.bmp" "tilewallpaper"="1" "scrnsave.exe"="c:\winnt\anbkg.scr" "screensavetimeout"="150" "screensaveractive"="1" [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors] "background"="0 0 0"
  6. I fully agree army20's reload original dump idea, although I tried on VMWARE not VPC but the thoughtfullness is total same and also succeed. army20, I'm interesting in your RIS stuff, would you share it to me please?currently I 'm using another way which using norton ghost to build a multi-NIC supported(support for DELL GX260/60/270,DELL latitude C400/D600/D400) startup floppy then connect to a shared folder on my server which contain all the distribution image there, then it'll start the unattend installation just like via CD, but much much quicker as the LAN is gigabyte. thanks a ton to army20!
  7. I tried to install chinese befroe, I think it should be useful experience for u.I simply add the language code in the unattend file , there is a special section about it. [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1,10 ;Language=00000804 SystemLocale=00000409 UserLocale=00000409 InputLocale=0409:00000409 I met some issue as I install english w2k profession with chinese support, sometimes the unattend process stopped and ask for some chinese font file path, it's just occasionally, frankly I have no idea of this. Now I'm try to do by this way: I have the package of multi-language supported w2k CDs, so I decide to install in english unattended then add the command to execute chinese interface support by mtsetup.exe, a program supplied by MS which also support install east language in silent. fyi and good luck
  8. Hi Folks, Anybody have the experience for far-east fonts unattended installation? I know many guys here are western, but I still want to ask this question. I was without any problem if I install W2K with simplfied chinese support from CD. But now I try to install it form a mapped net driver. I did nothing except move $OEM$ folder from CD root to the i386 folder , and point the unattend file name (I still use the winnt.sif) when I invoke winnt.exe. everything run well just like from CD, except the chinese support, it metioned some files can been found in $winnttemp$\i386\fonts\CHS. I remove all the other language support folders except CHS leave in fonts, but why it succeed from CD but failed from net driver? As I know all the necessary files should been copied to local hdd before GUI installtion? isnt' it? So the fonts support folder should be copied too? thanks for ur advise.
  9. Hi guys, thanks for the quite good tips. I have another idea,I have 150 DELL desktops and 40 laptops, I want to use the DELL service tag (a series such as GX10PH8) to be the PC name, it will be few advantage: a. Unique computer name in the domain b. Unique to the pc user I believe there is no tool can record the DELL service tag, but I want to put a interactive command line dialog to metion to type in the tag before I start the windows setup.then the auto installed windows can import what I key in to be as the computer name. Any good spot on this? thanks!
