  1. Restarted a machine and let it do its little drive scan before it went into Windows. It found a lot of errors... but apparently corrected them all and restarted. However, after it restarted, it would do the Windows XP loading then goto the blue background for the Windows XP domain log in and just restart. Is this an error caused by maybe some corrupt system files? Or maybe a failing hard drive I didn't catch in time? Normally when ever I see windows start up files are corrupt it will not get passed the loading screen. It does the same in Safe mode. The only thing I can think this would be is software or failing hard drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  2. Well finally convinced boss to go back to old board and memory lol.... Applied the new timings to the memory and now for the more fun testing... *joy* Hopefully that change will fix the problem...I am just afraid once I send it back they will hit defaults and get the **** thing back again.
  3. Ah cool, thanks. I was searching and found a few ways.... but most require sending the password or buying a program. I will give this a try, thanks for the link!
  4. Yea "fixed"... Well one of them was a massive upgrade in BIOS and seems to work. However the P5N32 Premium with 8800 GTS with Kingston KVR667D2N5/1G does not want to work. It was working fine until boss told me to sub out memory and board. After I swapped it all out and POSTed it I went to BIOS and loaded defaults. However it froze on restoring defaults and when I rebooted it would no longer work. I have tried the Kingston 533 1GB stick and a Corsair 675 2GB kit (4-4-4-12). Depending where the memory is positioned in the slots it will either give me and error beep code or nothing. They range from the general no memory beeps to a long beep. I assume this new motherboard I have is even more defective then the other. I am not sure what the timings are default for the Kingston 667. Hopefully that sheds a bit more light on this.
  5. Is there a legitimate program that I can download (for free preferably) that will reset or change an account password on a computer that the user has forgotten? Not sure of any ways I can modify a Windows login password without some sort of third party program or using DOS to maybe modify files? Gonna do some research on it but thought someone would have a tried and tested method to offer as well on there. Thanks.
  6. I updated the BIOS and haven't had an issue yet. However it took me 5 days before I could even get it to stop POSTing. Guess I get to keep testing. If it happens again I will mess with the memory, but I don't have much experience with memory and don't want to screw anything up.
  7. I have two systems at the moment with a very similar problem. One of them is a P5N32 SLI Premium, the other a P5N32 SLI SE DLX, and they both are running with 2GB 667 memory and an E6600 CPU. I am wondering if there is a compatibility issue with this series of ASUS board and the E6600 series? They have a history of not POSTing then POSTing inconsistently. It seems when the CPUs are reseated it fixes the issue for awhile. I have tried replacing the board and the CPU without any luck correcting this problem. It almost seems like certain revisions of this board and processor do not function correctly together. Last time I thought I fixed the problem because of a the faulty board, it came back within weeks. And now that I have tried a new CPU as well on the new board it does not fix the problem either. I am going to try a new BIOS next time I am able to POST the machine but I am not sure if that will fix anything. Both of these machines are very similar except that one contains a WD HDD and a 7900 while the other has an 8800GTS and a Seagate HDD. Any help on this topic would be appreciated, thanks.
  8. Hmmm, don't have exact specs. And I don't have the part with me. First time using this board as well so I am not too sure what will work with it.
  9. Cool thanks. I was just worried about some of the heat sinks that are low, or may hit some of the heat pipes on the motherboard.
  10. Hello all. I was wondering what heat sink would go well with a 6400+ AM2 CPU on a Asus Crosshair motherboard. Price range would hopefully be around 50, if not lower. Any suggestions are appreciated. Active air cooling only please. Thanks
  11. Only thing I can think of is you removed the component or disabled it. Depends how far you went with nLite (Which I assume you used because you posted in the nLite section). Probably best to go back through your last session and double check everything you did imo. Make sure you didnt check to remove anything that might disable (or even remove) WU.
  12. By clean you mean just a simple OS? Or do you just want a bootable flash drive? http://ucsu.colorado.edu/~shaher/Bootable_USB.html Has a decent guide of how to make a bootable flash drive. Not sure what you mean by clean, but this creates a flash drive that works on most boards. There are some NEWER boards that don't like this method, but it has only been a select few. Hope this helps. Not quite sure if this is a "clean" boot. But I hope it helps.
  13. The only way I could think of to get SP1 would be to find a non SP2 disc and do a regular install.... But not wanting SP2.... Thats basically only reason to use XP IMO. But every time you access internet or anything you will be bugged by MS to upgrade to SP2 anyways. You would be better off staying with SP2.
  14. Well it seems to be the components I removed. When I re did it with alot less removed, it went through ok. I guess that some things not in red have issues when being removed. I jsut assumed that nLite would modifiy the program, but I guess it removes them completely
  15. OEM Preinstall Kit. It comes with PE tools and stuff for OEMs. At least if I remember correctly lol, and I think this is in the wrong forum section eh? Probably better off in Software hangout.

    boot problem

Shouldn't you make those files into an ISO then burn the ISO? I am not sure if you just burned it as a data CD or something. If you just copied the files to a folder then tried to re-burn them without making them into an ISO then re-burning then the CD wont boot. But then again I could be wrong Hope I was a little help!
  17. Is it common for there to be files missing from the Windows setup? And, if so, is there a way to make the unattended install skip the warnings? I cut it down by about 120MB, not sure it that is a lot or not, but I didn't remove anything in red. I am new to using nLite, so I am not sure if it completely removes the files, or if it modifies setup to ignore files. So I don't know if this behavior is normal. And if it is, can you get around hitting ESC for all the files that pop up missing? Update: After trying twice to complete install with those files missing, it finally finished, however it BSOD every time it went into Windows lol... However I re-did it with the same add ons, but about 20MB less removed (so a lot less components removed)...
  18. I was wondering if there are any known issues with using nLite to integrate addons? And if the addons from nLites section are compatible with RVM's integrator? And if RVM's are compatible with nLites integrator. When I tried to use nLite to integrate a couple extra addons for an image, and cut down on some of the XP fluff, I had several files missing and setup could not find them. (amdk6, amdk7, arp1394, and a few others near the end) I am sure I didn't take out anything in red when I was using nLite. Should I integrate all addons with RVM? Or can nLite properly do all addon packs?
  19. At the moment I am doing FRESH installs with different answer files for different HDD sizes. And I currently don't have time to play with Vista, it will have to wait for awhile, but when I was using Vista when it first came out I tried doing the Network share of the image and having ImageX image each HDD (Which you could specify the HDD size). However this process took nearly 2 hours because it would format the HDD before it would image it. I am not aware of any switches I could use to turn that format off, or change it to a quick format. But when I get some time to mess with Vista I will read through it again. And at the moment customers do not want more then 1 disk. So I cannot use an extended partition to fill the drive . At least I still have all my old batches made up somewhere so I don't have to start completely from scratch lol...
  20. Great guide! Much better then ones that M$ has to offer.
  21. I am still using PE tools form original Vista release lol. Probably my problem to start with. The way it described took over 2 hours to complete and distribute 1 image with its "auto" partition. So I have been using different answer files for different HDD sizes and doing fresh installs to save time. And I don't use any other partition tools. I want to know how to get PE tools answer file to do it for me so I don't have to go back and redo the partition. Thanks for he advice, the forum digging begins lol
  22. Thanks for the info. But after updating BIOS to the new BETA it hasn't happened again. Whatever the problem was, it must have been a BIOS error after all. Still nice to know how to manually redirect drives.
  23. Hello all, is there a way to have the file check the max size of the HDD and create a partition to that size? At the moment I am using different floppies for different HDD sizes, and it would be nice to make one floppy for all HDD sizes. However if I make it to a max size it will give an error that it cannot partition to that size and fail. That leaves me with a couple options. One I make the partition to 20GB and resize it every install. Or two I partition each drive manually. I would rather have it auto partition to save some time since I make several machines at one time. Thanks for any advice.
  24. Good day all, I was wonder if anyone has run into this error before, or might know what could be causing it. Randomly (Around 5-10min) the screen will go black and the system will idle for a min then restart. There are also the casual freeze on login errors, but I am not concerned with those. The system is running on 667 memory (used to be a problem with Vista freezing for this board before), but is has occurred with 533 as well (which seems to run well on any Vista system). It has the latest BIOS and drivers. I assume this is a software problem though. I have tried to replicate the problem on a fresh system without any luck yet. But I am not aware of what might be causing this error. The HDD and memory have passed their respective tests multiple times, and the motherboard has been replaced without any change. I have tried to access the systems mini dump but every time I do the system crashes while opening the file. I am unaware of any special privileges that you may need to view the file. Hopefully someone out there has encountered this error and found the cause... I almost miss XP's BSOD... at least that gave you information on what is happening to your computer.
