  1. You'll have to partition the disk before you start the XP install, or Windows will just create one huge partition. I use Hiren's Book Disk with Utilities to accomplish this. This means that you'll have to attend the setup until the end of textmode setup to select the drive where you want XP to install.
  2. It goes straight to the desktop (I've pre-entered quite a few registry settings). The Windows Activation icon is in the Taskbar tray.
  3. Okay, I checked WMP. It is working perfectly (I'm using WMP9 - the newer versions are just too bloated).
  4. I have an XP setup disk that I have built by continually integrating hotfixes into my i386 directory. I am doing it this way, because I have programs that will not run if I use some integrator (nLite, Ryan). Recently, after adding the last three months of updates, the build will no longer completely finish the setup without a power down and restart at t=0 (just before first login, or just before RunOnceEx is executed). It goes through its last reboot, and freezes at the WindowsXP logo screen with "Please wait..." below the logo. Because I have been directly integrating into my i386 directory, I now have 139 catalog files in my svcpack directory. I've heard that XP has a problem when there is a large number of catalog files in the svcpack directory. I heard that the magic number was 150, but maybe the amount is even less than 150. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this issue and if there was any work-a-round. The signing policy in my WINNT.SIF is set to "IGNORE". For the install, the setuperr.log has nothing in it (no errors). The setup actually completes with no other problems, if I powerdown the machine and restart. I just want to have a completely unattended install.
  5. Thanks for the link. Looks like this is going to do the trick!
  6. All the programs that I use will open a directory with the "List" view when I try to open a file. I prefer to use the "Details" view, so that requires that I go through the "Views" icon, then select "Details". I mean when you are in a program, like for instance, PhotoShop, and you want to open a file, the open dialog default view is "List". It is this setting that I want to be able to change. Since all programs seem to have this default view in their "Open File" dialog, I am assuming that there is a registry key somewhere that can change it. Is there a registry setting to change the default "Open Dialog" view to "Details"?
  7. Why not? Are you failing the "Genuine Windows" check? I upgrade IE from Win2000Pro, SP4 with no problems.
  8. I hope that you have got there by now, but if not, your virtual machine will install VMWare Tools from an .ISO file attached to the virtual machine (just look in the vm's My Computer). In the VMWare Tool's .ISO, click on "SETUP" and your tools will now install.
  9. I'm trying to view this topic from a link in another thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=59452 When I do, I get a "Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken." message. I'm new to this forum, so I don't know if there was a database loss sometime in the past that would account for this message - or some other problem. Is this topic locked? or lost? Or, there is a slim possibility (no, that can't be it!) that I have not configured my settings properly.
