Some additional information concerning the newer version of K-Meleon Twin+ ... rodocop has started another thread titled: "KM Twin 2.0 wishlist", so anyone who did download and may be using the current version and may have an idea or request for the newer 2.0 version that rodocop is currently working on should post a message at his new thread. The other thread: "CommMeleon2??? Oh, No! K-Meleon Twin+ is here!!!" just had a post from JamesD and he seems to have had some success with KM v1.7 ... I'll post just a few lines ... the rest will be in his post. Posted by: JamesD Date: November 10, 2012 09:41PM @ rodocop Time to cross one off of your wish list. I have managed to get a new version of KM17n.kmm working. This one uses relative path, closes the Command window, and passes the page or link URL to 1.7. I did not test in twin, but I did put a 1.7 inside of a 1.6 and tested that way. KM17n.kmm -------------------------------------------- K-Meleon Forum: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/list.php?1 ... so there could be some new interesting things coming in a newer version one day in the (near?) future. ... thanks Jody for the Seamonkey version you are using ... can I also ask what OS you are currently using with Seamonkey? I am with XP Pro at present. I found version 2.13 at FileHippo: http://www.filehippo.com/download_seamonkey/13439/ Title: SeaMonkey 2.13 Filename: SeaMonkey Setup 2.13.exe File size: 19.29MB (20,221,996 bytes) Requirements: Windows XP / 2003 / Vista / Windows7 / XP64 / Vista64 / Windows7 64 Languages: en-US License: Freeware Date added: October 10, 2012 I'M not sure if I can use the x64 experimental build with XP Pro but others may be interested. thanks

Jody ... thanks for the heads up on Seamonkey, I will give it a try, used an older version several years back ... what version are you talking about ? This version: SeaMonkey 2.14 Beta 3 ... that's the newest one I see listed.

tomasz86 ... I don't have any idea what to say ... I am currently installing Google Chrome ... there seems to be a rather long or large download going on now from Google. I am currently waiting for it to finish. I also am using XP Pro ... I would go over to the KM forum and ask rodocop about what you are seeing. You do not have to join or be a member to post or ask a question and he seems to answer fairly quick, at least he did so with me. I may just use the newer KM version without Google Chrome installed or turned on (with XP) and maybe it's not meant to work on Windows 2000. I was happy at the speed that this newer version opens web pages and such so I may not use the Google Chrome feature and maybe it will be OK (better) in newer KM versions. I would ask rodocop about what is going on ... it may be for only XP, Vista and up ... I don't know for sure. ...

tomasz86 ... on the version I installed which is the download ... which I'm sure you also have ... the Google Chrome button in on the left side, I think it is a round bluish button, I will check after I post this, am using another version of KM at this time. I wrote to rodocop earlier today and he gave me some additional info about the Google Chrome engine. When you click on the Google Chrome it will start to install and some of the language appears to be Russian but it should install OK ... I need to experiment more with it myself. I was a little hesitant to install it till I understand things better. I installed the Chrome once and then removed everything with registry cleaners and also took Google out of the Programs folder. I am not using the Chrome feature at present. I will try KM-Twin on my Windows 2000 Pro setup later today or tomorrow. I have my Windows 2000 updated with your update ... UURollup v10c (ENU). Posted by: duffy98 Date: November 05, 2012 04:57AM rodocop ... just discovered K-Meleon Twin earlier today. Thanks for the time and effort to make K-Meleon better in 2012. Lots of goodies in this version, I like all the newer User Agents for one ... haven't discovered everything yet but I will over the next week or so. I still don't understand exactly what Google Chrome is ... the button on the left side wants to install Google Chrome and I have left it alone for now ... not sure if I need it or what it does. Overall, a really nice project you have here ... thanks. Posted by: rodocop Date: November 05, 2012 02:15PM duffy98, Chrome button installs GoogleChrome engine, that can be used INSIDE K-Meleon Twin to render modern pages (html5-rich and so on) in new tab. First time you click it - all the needed installation procedures are performed. Next time (after KM restart) the same button sends current page into Chrome tab. Do you need this really or not - it's for you. I've just provided the possibility. More questions - feel free to ask. ---------------------------------------------------------- That's all I have for now ... look for that button on the upper left side. OK, have KM Twin fired up now ... it is a round earth looking blue button beside the web title page (left side) ... when you click on it ... it should offer to install the Google Chrome engine. I discovered yesterday that if you say "no", it still seems to install it anyway ... once you click on it, at least it did that for me. Wasn't happy about that but I want to try it out anyway. Just a little leary of Google at times. ...

For anyone here using the K-Meleon browser ... a newer version of K-Meleon by rodocop was released on Oct 28, 2012. Everything is at the K-Meleon Forum ... I will post links further down. Just discovered it yesterday and so far it seems to work OK on Windows XP. I am not sure about it working on Windows 98SE ... I have no 98SE setup at present to test it on ... perhaps with KernelEx it might work, I was using a newer version of K-Melelon with Windows 98SE for two years with KernelEx installed. I am also not sure about Windows 2000 ... I do have an older computer (Pen 3) set up but will test it later in the week. Those already familiar with K-Meleon will notice a fairly modern newer version ... according to rodocop, there are more things to be done but for now, it seems to be a good working version, at least to me. This is at the K-Meleon Forum ... under the General tab http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/ ... then you will see " CommMeleon2??? Oh, No! K-Meleon Twin+ is here!!! " by rodocop. http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/list.php?1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CommMeleon2??? Oh, No! K-Meleon Twin+ is here!!! Posted by: rodocop Date: October 28, 2012 02:14AM Comrades! I'm very glad to inform you that my work wasn't stopped (as you believe, I think) and now I can introduce to you the Ultimate K-Meleon ever. K-Meleon Twin+ K-Meleon Twin+ ALSO Twin ALTERNATIVE DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS (as I've got some negative feedback about downloading from my russian comrades) All you have to know about new build was (or wasn't) discussed earlier: here here here and there All I want to say now is here: 1) It's double portable build (1.7 folder inside 1.6 folder) - it was conceived that 1.6 is the main browser and 1.7 is secondary one on demand (sometimes it renders sites more correctly, but 1.7 branch still has more crucial bugs) 2) It's based on 1.6beta2.5 from JamesD and db+ builds from dugbugoffice. No new binaries - we still need C++ coders and this is problem 3) But KM Twin+ has all the modern compatibility thanks to incorporated GoogleChromeFrame. This part of pack was inspired by disrupted's work. Now, you can install ChromeFrame by pressing just one button on toolbar (with blue Chromium icon) - simply press and answer 'Yes' and 'OK' to get it installed. Next time you'll start KM the same button will open currently opened page in new tab inside KM with Chrome engine! No more incompatible pages! 4) Other original stuff are 1. the Icon Selector toolbar, which lets you to select 1 of 7 icons for you KM (you can assign 2 different icons to Twins in order to distinguish them easy in simultaneous work (when you open 1.7 from 1.6 - new window is created, so you can use two different KMs in parallel); 2. button to quickly switch opening diverted windows/tabs from fore- to background (corresponding bug is now fixed in kmprefs.jar) 3. Privoxy webfilter is here to replace AdBlock in KM-1.7 or even add more content filtering power for KM-1.6. The only one drawback of using Privoxy is that it prevents you from using Keyword Autosearch and thereby it blocks the possibility to open pages by simply typing some peculiar keyword in URLbar and hitting Enter (my favourite trick in KM!) 4. upgraded AppLauncher (by disrupted and Alex Tarantul) which has now button for every App (IE, Mark text editor and KM1.7). Feel free to add more other apps by changing kmm-file! But remember - you'll need bmp-icons! More useful stuff are bookmarklets - 5 different online bookmarking services (highly recommended to add site to your cloud bookmarks by 2-3 clicks!) and about 20 different JavaScript-tools for some useful (or just funny) operations with pages and content. Give them a try - and have fun! Use KM Twin+! Enjoy K-meleon concept and full compatibility! Feedback is welcome! _____________________________________ Using K-Meleon-1.6.17db+ / KM-16-S2014 ______________________________ Recommending K-Meleon Twin+ Try and discuss it!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------- It has Google Chrome available, which I don't completely understand at this point ... there is also a new updated list of User Agents and there are many more than in previous versions of K-Meleon. So I just posted this to call your attention to this newer version to try out. As earlier versions, there is no install and once you have all the settings to your liking, you can just copy the folder to save or add to as many computers as you want. ... added: On the 2nd day using this newer version, I had a crash with just the browser and had to delete and replace the KM folder ... simple enough to do but it is still a "work in progress" at this point ... rodocop talks about changes in newer version updates. Still a good working browser at this point with some glitches every now and then. ...

Well, I arrived late to the XP Party ... having just made the change to Windows XP from Windows 98SE earlier this year. I am very satisfied (98%) with my move to XP ... still have a few things to figure out but my Thinkpads are running super great with XP installed. Only wish I had made the move a few years earlier ... I had a lot of fun working with Windows 98SE through the years but it was finally time for me to move on. ...

Just a quick update confirming that the registry fix by GrofLuigi (Post #3) for IE8 with XP does work ... the "Suggested Sites" link has not reappeared in the Links folder since I applied the fix on Oct 3rd. Good riddance ... thanks again GrofLuigi. MSFN delivers again! ... a quick note, before I applied the registry fix I searched the registry for any references to Suggested Sites and deleted every one found ... there usually will be at least one, but on one computer I found more than one ... then I deleted Suggested Sites out of the Links (Favorites) folder ... after it seems to be completely gone on your system, then apply the registry fix before it has a chance to regenerate itself, either from a reboot or by starting IE 8. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I only let IE connect to the internet with permission through ZA ... there would also be a 2nd attempt (usually in less than a minute) with ZA asking for permission again for "something" wanting to connect to the internet. I eventually figured this out that it was Suggested Sites now trying to connect to go somewhere. It may all be harmless, I don't know for sure but it was a nuisance. Also, the registry fix works for now but maybe a "future" MS monthly update will somehow "activate" it again. Let's hope not.
-
HarryTri ... just a quick note, I went through Internet Options > Advanced again ... Browsing and all, I see no mention of Suggested Sites anywhere. I went through the complete list at least three times before my last post. Perhaps one of the several fixes I tried earlier removed the line. bphlpt ... I do remember seeing "Enable Suggested Sites" somewhere when I first turned my attention to getting rid of this nuisance ... I did uncheck it or I left it unchecked but that didn't solve my problem. However, the Registry fix by GrofLuigi seems to have done the job. No sign of Suggested Sites" anywhere. When I start up IE I have to give Zone Alarm the OK to let IE go on the internet. I always have IE blocked unless I say "yes" ... in the past I would always have to do this two times ... I eventually figured this out that the second attempt for "permission" was Suggested Sites wanting to connect to the internet. I no longer have that happening. There is no Suggested Sites showing up in the Links folder. It's a good working fix to the problem.
-
HarryTri ... thanks for your help ... yes, I wanted to delete it forever. I looked in Internet Options > Advanced tab but I didn't see anything related to Suggested Sites. GrofLuigi ... thanks for the registry fix. I got off the computer then I first deleted any references to "suggested sites" in the registry after a search and I also checked the Links folder to make sure it wasn't sitting there again. I applied your registry fix and started IE8 and so far ... no suggested sites. I will see after a few days if it ever comes back. It usually appeared right away in the past after starting Internet Explorer ... thanks again. ... so far no "Suggested Sites" showing up in the Links folder ... have started and closed IE8 several times. Looking good for now.
-
Has anyone here come up with a permanent solution to getting rid of the Suggested Sites link. I have searched Google and tried many suggestions but that link always comes right back when I open IE8. I use K-Meleon mostly but every so often I have to use IE8 for a web page and the Suggested Sites link reappears. I have deleted all references out of the registry, deleted the link ... nothing seems to work at present. There must be a permanent "fix" that maybe someone here has discovered. thanks ...

GrofLuigi ... yes, the services that you talk about in your post are mostly the ones I'm seeing when they are set to Manual they are always running also. I just set them all to Automatic. I don't use the Windows firewall ... I use an older version of Zone Alarm, when it was still just a firewall. I have ALG on Automatic since it is always started when I boot up. I also read that ALG is not needed for a 3rd party firewall and then I found other information that indeed ALG is needed for a 3rd party firewall or any firewall I guess ... just wasn't sure about that one (ALG) at all. I have 16 services set at Disable ... mostly all that are in agreement with the guides. I'm inclined to agree with you Kelsenellenelvian ... maybe just set most everything to Manual and let them run if Windows decides they should ... but like Remote Registry, which I have set to Disable and since I am on unsecured Wi-Fi at the library and other places ... I am concerned that some services could be activated from outside and some of my information could could go out without my knowledge. I don't know enough about the services and WiFi and what someone might be able to do to my machine. Been on WiFi for several years now and have never had anything out of the ordinary happen yet. So, as I said earlier, I do have 16 services disabled ... I had 18 a few days ago but decided to set two of them back to Manual. Right now I have a fast running machine and no problems but I will still keep researching the service settings and hope for more input here ... I may make a few adjustments as I get more information ... would be nice if input from everyone could create a MSFN XP Service Guide with added information about a particular service that might be set at Automatic or Manual. For example, I have lanmanworkstation on Automatic and lanmanserver on Manual since it isn't running ... but a month ago I had lanmanworkstation on Disable, from reading that it could be disabled, then I decided to put it on Manual but then the Guides I listed earlier have it set to Automatic and dencorso said he uses Automatic ... so that is what I decided and was asking about in my first post. HarryTri ... thank for the Task Scheduler info ... I have that on Automatic, going with the Guides. I might be back with more questions ... thanks.
-
Thanks guys for the information ... I wanted some input from members who have been around XP longer than I have. When I made the switch in early May from Windows 98SE to XP Pro, I knew nothing about "service settings". After getting XP set up and going ... then I saw tips and articles about making XP run better and faster ... discovered the Black Viper site and so on. I feel I now have a very good working XP setup ... but I just had some lingering questions about some service settings. That's a good idea ... let the Black Viper XP guide have the "final say" over the other guides that are not in agreement. I hope today to make my final Ghost backup of my XP setup to have as a "Factory CD" ... that handy little recovery disc that used to come in the box (so long ago) with a new computer. Again thanks ... maybe someone else is "new" to XP and can use the information also. ...
-
bphlpt ... yes, that is one of my Service guides that I have from Black Viper. Very good web site with much info. I also stumbled across these guides as I searched around Google ... Recommended Service Settings for Windows XP -- Comprehensive List http://cybercoyote.org/security/serv-comp.htm -------------------------- (PDF List Download) Windows XP Services that can be Disabled by Tom Here is an exellent PDF that describes what Windows XP Services that can be Disabled and the consequences of doing so. The hope is that by unloading unneccesary services your XP system may run more securely and quickly. You’ve always known that you didn’t need many, many of the services that come bundled in XP, but if you’re anything like me you’ve avoided taking a systematic approach to disabling them until you have a comprehensive list of what is and is not really necessary. http://www.digitalmediaminute.com/article/1841/windows-xp-services-that-can-be-disabled ---------------------------- TweakHound's Super XP Tweaking Guide (You can download the Tweaking Guide in Word (.doc) format near the bottom of the page.) http://tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks6.htm ... and of course the list from Black Viper ... Out of curiosity ... what setting do you have for Workstation (lanmanworkstation) on your setup and what do you personally do for Service settings that are set for Manual but always seem to be on or "started" ? ... change them to Automatic? thanks
-
Been working on "fine tuning" my Service Settings in XP. After digging around on Google for several weeks, I have questions on a few settings. First of all, would like an opinion on Manual settings ... several guides that I have been working with have some Services listed as a Manual setting ... for instance, Application Layer Gateway Service (ALG) is usually listed as a Manual setting and when I set it to Manual and check the settings after starting the computer, ALG is always "started". I have about five of these "Manual Service Settings" that are always running after starting the computer ... so I just change them to "Automatic". Anything wrong with that thinking? Also, the Workstation (lanmanworkstation) setting seems to have recommendations from Automatic to Disable. Just curious what other XP users at this board are using. Any suggestions for a good service guide also appreciated ... as I said earlier, I have found several that seem to "agree" on most of the settings but can differ (sometimes greatly) on a few. thanks

Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE
Monroe replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
CharlotteTheHarlot ... very glad you posted about RegDat again and the other older software that you mention from time to time. I missed your earlier post. Although I no longer work much with Win 98SE after deciding to switch earlier this year to XP, I still spend time here looking for any talk of older software programs that might also work with XP. I follow Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 and XP, so it is very easy to miss a "little mention" here or there of a nice little program. That goes for everyone else here also, some older or maybe long forgotten program just might be something I (or others) can use in XP ... I'm glad when people do post about something for Windows 98SE that they also mention what other OSs it will also work with. Giant2011 ... Fastcopy 2.11 that you just posted about, after CharlotteTheHarlot's post also works with Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista/Win7, so I downloaded that also. thanks ... -
Thanks for reminding me about KeepVid ... did use that program some time back. Don't remember why I stopped ... maybe it quit working for me. Seems like something works for awhile with Youtube and then they change things and you have to look around for something else.
-
frogman ... downloading a video now with Youtube Downloader ... took a few trys to get it working. Youtube doesn't recognize the K-Meleon browser anymore, but I use a User Agent indicating that I'm using IE 8 with Windows 7 ... when I'm really on XP. Just over at the Black Viper website earlier today and I noticed he made some changes, or at least I never saw these new pages till today. I was there several times in June and early July as I was learning about the Services setup configuration for my new XP setup. He had two batch files there for downloading for XP Pro ... a Default file and a Safe file. I noticed a few days ago the Save file had been removed and today I found this new page where you can easily (fast) customize your own Services batch file. Thought I would post information about it, if someone wanted to try it out. There is one for XP Home and XP Pro and also other OS's. Sorry if this is old information but I didn't see these pages earlier. Well I am on XP these days but I installed the portable version earlier today but I can't try it out till I get to the library or somewhere with a faster Wi-Fi connection. My connection at home is very slow through my cell phone. My phone dates back to 2004 and I have a plan from Verizon that included Data as part of the Voice plan, before everyone decided to split voice and data up to get more money. I connect with a USB cable, everything works OK, just most downloads are very slow. As I said I am on XP so I no longer use KernelEx. I should be able to try some downloads tomorrow or over the next few days. I will get back with my experience on XP. You might not need KernelEx but I don't know. Maybe the other download will work with KernelEx. ... just will add something in reference to the IncrediSonic Ultra Play Media player, if anyone decides to go that route ... there is a 6ft HDMI cable for sale for $1.61 that also includes free shipping. I paid $1.63 in July and today is the first time I saw the price actually change, down two cents. Duplicate post of the earlier post ... not sure how it happened.

frogman ... I just found out about this flash video / converter from a posting by JohnHell at the K-Meleon forum less than two weeks ago. Youtube Downloader HD http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com/ Youtube Downloader HD is a free tool to download videos from YouTube and save it to your local computer. The videos can be converted to avi video format or to mp4 (compatible with iPod, iPhone). Now you can download High Quality videos, High Definition and Full HD videos from YouTube. Also Youtube Downloader HD is a Freeware! Main Downloads: Download Youtube Downloader HD Version 2.9.4 Freeware. 4.2 MB. With installer. For Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/7 Youtube Downloader HD - Portable Version Version 2.9.4 Freeware. 3.5 MB. Without installer. Standalone exe file. For Windows 98/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/7 FLV Converter Version 1.1 Freeware. 3.2 MB. With installer. Handy Freeware tool to convert FLV files to AVI video .... the portable version is listed as working with Windows 98 / SE The following may be "slightly " off topic but it does deal with various file formats playing through a TV with no converting needed. I just found out about this item in July ... it does away with converting any file. I posted about it on July 23 at the K-Meleon forum and will just put what I wrote there in this post ... it would be another way to go to be able to work with different files. I finally got around to trying it yesterday and the files (mp4 and wmv) played great using just the av (R/W/Y) cable. I have other files to try out but my first test was a success. Amazon had Kingston 16 GB flash drives on sale for $7.99 in July for only a day and I got four of them to store various videos on and I have some USB Hard Drives. Date: July 23, 2012 07:39AM Thanks Fred ... in regards to converting files, I just bought something that is supposed to play just about any file through your TV. I just received this little item and have not had a chance to try it out yet but it had a lot of "positive" reviews at Amazon. You don't have to convert any files, just put your files on a USB Hard Drive, Memory Card or a USB Flash Drive. I'm not endorsing this product but converting files can be time consuming, I was actually looking for a DVD player that played all or at least most files that could be watched on a television. I found this item and most people seemed to like it. I just put info about it here in case someone might be interested in checking it out. Seems like it would be easier to put various files on a USB Flash Drive or USB Hard Drive to play on a TV ... instead of converting files. Of course if you only play files on a computer then this item is not necessary at all. http://www.amazon.com/IncrediSonic-Ultra-Play-IMP150-Flashdrives/dp/B006FNCWSY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1343004041&sr=1-1&keywords=IncrediSonic+Ultra+Play+IMP150 IncrediSonic Ultra Play IMP150 - HD TV Digital Mini Media Player HDMI - 1080p - Play any file from USB HDDs/Flashdrives/Memory Cards ... Hi dencorso ... the link for the ATM program doesn't seem to be working for now. I did a quick search on Google for another link but didn't come up with one. I will do a better search shortly. Yes, I like to check out different software programs so ATM sounds interesting. I may have it already archived on some software backup dvds. A little more info on MemInfo ... I was using RAMpage on my XP setup, it does work and so I set up MemInfo to look the same ... black background with lime green numbers. It 's listed as only using 2 MB of RAM while RAMpage is listed as using 3 MB of RAM. I took off RAMpage and will use MemInfo. I also changed the settings to report "unused" or available RAM, just like RAMpage reported. I have the little bar on top set for "No Bar Border and "Opaque Bar". The program has some nice features. ... OK, understand now about the Wayback Machine ... a time capsule for archiving older software and just about anything. Never checked this out before. There were a few older Windows 98 programs I was never able to find a download for. Wish I had known about this site ... wonder what year this site was founded? I can get that off Google. ...

Just came across this little program today and really like it, posting some info about it in case anyone might want to try it out or may have been looking for such a program. Having recently left Windows 98SE for XP, I was glad to be able to transfer many software programs to Windows XP. However, one program that I really liked on 98SE doesn't work on XP and that is Memload v2.0 ... it would easily show the amount of memory being used by all running programs. Then I found MemInfo v3.2 today ... it has several nice features and it will also show the amount of memory being used by a program just like Memload did in Windows 98SE. By default it shows 5 programs but the number can be easily changed to any or all programs. I set it to 20. Just right click on the systray icon and you see what programs are using the most memory from top to bottom. It also can replace RAMpage and a little program program called ResMan from EnTech Taiwan. (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7) ... sort of a combo of the above three 98SE programs. http://download.cnet.com/MemInfo/3000-2248_4-67969.html MemInfo lets users keep an eye on their computer's memory at all times. It gives a real-time look into the workings of computer systems. With ease and subtlety, MemInfo is a great tool for memory hogs. The program's interface is so basic it doesn't matter that there is no Help file. There is basically no interaction here: users just view the statistics of their memory. What few commands there are operate quite simply. MemInfo embeds itself into the user's system tray and stays there. To view its information, users simply scroll over the small icon. A small information box opens and displays physical memory as megabytes (MB), percentage of memory used, and page file in MB. The icon also changes colors to warn users. It stays green under 65 percent usage, turns yellow above 65 percent, and red at 95 percent. The program's finest feature is undoubtedly the defragmenter that can be utilized by right-clicking. Here, users can free up a lot of memory just by clicking a button. By staying simple, and offering great information at a glance, this freeware program will be a favorite of users who are obsessed with their memory usage. ... didn't see it already mentioned anywhere but I don't have much luck using the Search feature at times. ...

NTLDR ... been reading all the replies since this topic started ... your reply was especially interesting. I just spent my first month (June) with XP and couldn't be happier about my decision to move on from Windows 98SE in early May. I have three IBM Thinkpad computers that are now running super fast and great. Yes, they ran very well with Windows 98SE but never quite 100%. I bought them over the last few years since they were listed as the last notebooks (T series) to work with Windows 98SE. I had everything set up with my favorite programs and settings but it wasn't perfect or completely to my liking. So around May 1st I decided to give XP another shot and this time I was going to work with it more and take the time to figure out setting it up exactly the way I would like it to be. The month of May started out gruesome (overwhelming) but quickly after some trial and error, in about two weeks I had a good setup going and by early June had everything just perfect ... thanks to doing a lot of early Ghost backups, if something was a disaster, I could be setup again in minutes to try something different. Anyway, the last three weeks of June were just running the "final setup" and I couldn't be happier with having XP on my notebooks. I have some extra IDE hard drives put away that I bought on eBay earlier in 2011 and 2012. I added RAM to two notebooks to make them all the same at 1 GB. I was especially happy that I was able to use many programs that I had on my Windows 98SE setup with XP. I sort of feel like the "Maytag Repairman" these days ... nothing more to work on, fix or search around for. As of right now, I feel these notebooks are running as good as I could ever hope for ... 100% +. I'm sure a few things will come along to tweak or try down the road ... but for now, Windows XP is working great and I hope to keep these notebooks and XP working for many years, if not forever. I wish I had moved from Windows 98SE a few years ago ... I had a few Pentium 3s and 98SE ran great on them but these Thinkpads are just super fast with no hangups with XP now installed. thanks ...
