Power Supply: Seasonic M12 or Corsair HX520 or Corsair HX620

Memory (RAM): Mushkin or Corsair (3GB in Total)

    CPU Cooling: Artic Pro

  2. Hello!

    I am going to buy the following parts today;

    Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme

    Graphics Card: Nvidia 8800GT

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Hard Drives: Western Digital (probably a 500GB, as I have just bought a new 400GB one)

Optical Drives: 20x DVD (and CD) burner. (Pioneer or LiteON)

Power Supply: Seasonic M12 or Corsair HX520 or Corsair HX620

Memory (RAM): Mushkin or Corsair (4GB in Total)

Case: Whatever I like in store, or either Coolermaster or Lian.

    CPU Cooling Artic Pro

But I want to make sure they are all compatible with eachother, and I am double checking that, that is everything that I need.

And if you think that some part that you know of (model/brand) is better then the ones that I have listed, please don't hesitate to tell me what I should get instead.

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

    PS: Please reply!

PPS: I might get the Asus P5K-Deluxe motherboard instead... (Please give me pros & cons!)

    I still don't have;

    1. Memory

    2. Optical Drives

    3. Cooling system

    4. Power Supply

    Please suggest!

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

PS: I'll chose the case at the store.

  5. ^He's right. Wrong country.

eh, i guess i will help since my first time asking i was similar to you. sorry about before.

for psu i recommend the corsair HX520 or HX620

    what else do u need?

    HX620?

    Sounds good.

All I need now is for 1 other person to agree with you.

Does anyone else agree that for my psu I should have the HX620?

well there is a such thing as in over your head. whether you buy a top of the line or a middle of the reaod upgradable machine, follow the old construction rule of measure twice, cut once. Actually it would prolly be best if no cutting was involved -unless you buy a 20$ case then i can guarantee there will be cutting -and prolly blood involved (cheap cases aren't know for their rounded edges)

    best advice i can give:

Buy a good case -Antec is my personal favorite (Sonata series are my favorites)

A quad core for a first build is a bad idea -the CPU itself is 279$ and if you insert it wrong, shock it, or mount the heatsink incorrectly, wrecking a 279$ piece of equipment would probably make you sick (it would make me sick)

A Core 2 Duo starts around 120$ and if you kill it, it would be easier to stomach

Other than that the gigabyte recommendation, i agree with everything else puntoMX recommended (though i will admit, i haven't dealt with a gigabyte product since my P3 600Mhz)

I recommend getting the parts from http://www.newegg.com/

    :(

But I really want Quad Core!

Can you show me a guide on how to do the inserting it right? How would I shock it? Guide link please.

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

  6. Hello!

    I can't uninstall Windows Live Messenger 8.1.

    I get this error; msnly6.th.jpg

This might be because I use CCleaner...

I have tweaked it with mess patch, msgplus & nuno peralta (vista live messenger, color).

    Please help me out here!

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

PS: I need to uninstall it so that I can install Windows Live Messenger 8.5 (non-beta)

PPS: Some specs: Windows Vista Ultimate, 2GB of RAM.

  7. ^I think I can! :P

    Thanks Jeremy (for the tip)

I think that if I have, as you put it 'a technological orgasm', that I would love it

I really want a good fast computer.

By fast I mean really fast.

My current computer has a Geforce 7600GS Graphics card & 2GB of RAM.

Please give me some more tips,

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

PS: I have a book somewhere that tells me how to build a computer!

  8. Thanks... that graphics card seems to be the one that everyone is suggesting I get.

So I will update my current 'Wishlist'

    Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme

    Graphics Card: Nvidia 8800GT

Thanks for the info... um, that cooling thing, is it quite? Cause this computer will be in my room, so I don't want one that will be loud (my 6 year one is pretty loud)

    Please reply,

    Panarchy

PS: That CPU looks good, what brand?

  9. Hello!

PuntoMX, fairly interesting list... I already have a 19'' Monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 940n). And for the rest, I would like to get some more opinions! As I haven't bought a computer in 6 years (back when I hardly knew how to work one)... so I would like to get a large sample of people's opinions, and pick from that!

So I'm just going to throw this out!

I have decided to rev things up a little...

By Saturday (two days away) I will buy all the parts I need.

Then I will start building my 'new' computer.

    The only part that I have already decided on is;

    Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme

    I have yet to decide on;

    1. Cooling system

    2. Case

    3. Video card

    4. Memory

    5. CPU

    6. Optical Drives

    7. Hard Drives

    Please help me out...

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

PS: I think I will buy a 500GB harddrive... it will go well with my brand new 400GB one (which yesterday I returned to the store because of a fault, and they sent it to the manufacturer...)

PPS: I am thinking of getting 4GB of RAM...

  10. Hello!

I need to run a linux boot cd, from the disc only. I don't want to install it, as I don't have enought harddrive space.

    I don't have wireless Internet.

    I need it to be able to do the following things;

    - Browser the Internet (with tabs, if possible)

    - Feature in whatever browser I use to save the session (so I can turn off my computer, and still keep everything I need, in the browser tabs available, so I can restore them when I boot back up to my 'DVD'.) It is fine if these sessions are stored on my hard-drive.

    - Needs to be able to run flash (within the browser)

    - Java (needs to be able to run internal java things within the browser)

    - Show the time (This feature should already be on it, not 24hr, 12hr.)

    - Notepad (notepad equivalent, perhaps with some syntax highlighting)

    - Access my USB thumb drive (I have a 1GB one, and instead of having all that trouble with printers, (I have a HP Photosmart C4180 All-In-One printer) which I will only need to use for printing. If both, or either of these things can be made to work with my linux live cd (or boot-cd) I will be very happy coming_out_of_gloom.gif !

    Please give me some suggestions.

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

PS: I nice transparent interface (borders) would be nice as well, but I don't mind if it doesn't have this feature.

PPS: Same goes with something like Microsoft Word.

  11. Please close the poll... here are the results (from more forums then just this one!);

Looks like I'll be going with Asus!

By adding up all the participants on all the forums where I posted my poll, there are 74 all up!

    That's all for now,

    Panarchy

PS: Give me feedback on how well you think my poll went...

  12. any models you are looking at? it is impossible to rate the whole line of motherboard from one company, especially when comparing just a single chipset..

also, could you keep all of this in your other post? no point in having 10 different threads about the same build.

Hehe... well, I want to! (For the polls)

I just posted something in your other topic Panarchy, please don’t make a topic after topic asking what part would be the best (I know others did this and it looked kinda... well... ripken204 knows ;))

    Knows?

    What

  13. Hello!

On my previous topic, "Buying a new computer" I stated my need for getting a computer. I was told to make it myself. This is probably the first in a series of polls for finding out which parts will be best for me.

    This one is for motherboard.

Please tell me which one you think is the best.

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy
